I've never played this game before, but I can say if I had, when getting to this puzzle, I would have gently gotten up, walked outside and strangled the first person I encountered.
I love Brad Dourif as Saveedro. Him and John Keston (as Gehn from Riven) could get together and have a good-actor party. Rand Miller does really good, too, considering he's a programmer and not an actor.
He's really got the looks for an Atrus. He reminds me of my dad, a bit. And I think that being a programmer kinda helps him with playing such a nerdy character.

In particular, Gehn's way of Writing is comparable to making a computer program by copying a line of code from OpenOffice, a line of code from a GMA insert-loading machine's counting program, a line of code from the My Little Pony G2 game _Friendship Gardens,_ and so on. You'll get a buggy mess.
Makes you wonder, what did Saavedro actually sabotage in the vibrating rings puzzle besides changing the orders around so that we'd have to just go and change them all back. Furthermore, what did Sirrus and Achenar even have to do to solve that puzzle!?
I knew you were going to make us wait, but I'm still upset about it. On an unrelated note, I love the harmony of this Age, and this whole game, in the sense that things have a nice uniformity and pattern to them. One of these in Amateria is the colour around the rings corresponding to the colours on the Orbiter buttons. Little things you may not notice, but it's so nice if you do.
I never thought of the balls as ice but thought they where of the same crystal material that is used in the first puzzle. I thought the balls weight would have an effect on the puzzle and that made it harder than it should have been.
I feel like Atrus changed the order, then Sirrus and Achenar solved it. Saavedro's "sabotage" would have just been resetting the order so that "Atrus" (even though it is just the Stranger) would have to solve it again. I didn't really see any room for making the puzzle more difficult. Maybe he put a sheet of glass over the control panel to keep anyone from pressing all the buttons at once? :P
you know, I've always wondered what would happen if you loaded up a previous save from before you solved the puzzles and cheesed your way past the trap doors leading to the orbiter. Would the game just act as though you had solved said puzzles and let you go on your merry way or would it punish you for being a smart ass?
+x1NeMeSiS1x I know this is an old comment but it won't let you pass - the guide explains that as a security precaution the combination won't work if you already know the solution, which makes sense - otherwise the machines would be broken so in theory the end result shouldn't work.
How do you know the solution to the puzzles? Do you figure it out right there and then, or have you played this before and have remembered a rough guide on completing it?
Now this could be a coincidence but weren't the books used to hold Sirrus, Achenar and Atrus also red, green and blue? Is there a connection between how the colors are used here and these three characters or am I thinking to deep about all that?
you might be thinking a bit too deep, maybe? you could certainly come up with something for a story! but those are also colors that show up very clear and unambiguously on monitors, nice for games. but it's not a bad thought!

There's probably an override connected to the main dome that activates when you put in all the three codes to access the dome.

The machine turns over when you solve it so you can no longer modify it, so when it gets to that state it probably just does it on it's own.
Probably the most evil cliffhanger ever! :D
I can't believe the sounds didn't have something to do with the solution! If this was the baby of Myst and Riven, they would be so disappointed!
