The game would have been looked at as fine, if it was played off as the teams first 3D project, as an indie game. AAA games are held to a far greater standard. You only go AAA when you have decades of game development experience, and can consistently make well polished games. (except in recent years where AAA is a joke). If they'd only taken it down, polished it up, and re-released it as an indie title.. but I guess the damage would have already been done.
Over ambition and lack of skills in the appropriate areas is a sure recipe for disaster. Hopefully the people involved take the lessons and move on to a new game company to keep improving and doing what they love.
I wonder how the game would have turned out if they made it a point & click game like the ones they've made before. It might have actually been decent.
Its so sad to see Deadelic being so in over their heads with this. I played quite a few of their point and click adventures and they were all pretty great, but going from point and click adventures to a triple a game was just too big of a leap for them apparently.
how do you dare insult Gollum? its the greatest masterpiece of all time! I litteraly cried and shatted my pants when Gollum said "its Gollim' time!" and Golled all over the ring
We did NOTHING to deserve this. It just another example of some half-assed licensed game trying to coast by off brand recognition alone without any promise to speak of.
They brought it upon themselves. The company even canceled the sequel because they were planning to make a second game and they should fixed the first game
@AL-lh2ht I wasn't celebrating. Like I said the people who made the game should have done more polishing it up, making it a better not just release a half baked terrible game and expect for it to sell. Really they were making a sequel and they should focus on fixing the first game not expect for the publisher to continue funding them because if the sequel got canceled, the publishers or ceo saw the gollum game didn't sell well enough
I believe if they stick to cartoonish graphics like in Deponia this game could actually be okay. If they really tryed to juggle 2 big projects at the same time CEO doomed them to fail, it couldnt work even if studio had some experience in making AAA games.
They are good sports about it. As much of a meme as this game is, there is a glimmer of a really cool idea there. They just didn’t have the expertise, experience, or funding to pull it off. I hope they improve and get another crack at it.
What did we do? First of all, buying too much bad stuff, giving in to demands of stronger hardware to play simpler games, falling for brand recognition... And so on.
I saw the dev diary, from the very reveal of the game even if this game is made by EA or other big name big budget developer i would still call this story of Gollum idea as a bad idea from the start. However a bad idea can be made interesting with good execution. This game? neither
...of all the LOTR characters, the one I'd be most interested in playing as is Gollum...would've bought, if the reviews hadn't been universally negative on the technical side...
@@AL-lh2ht Okay, maybe not their most impressive game. :) They tried hard, but when you go from point-and-click to whatever they were going for, it's not likely to work out so well, although there have been some success stories.

Rings of Power and then this. What could we have possibly done to deserve all of this.
Rings of power is mid, this is just horrible
Tolkien's work is entering public domain in several years. The rights holders are trying to milk the property dry before it becomes anyone's game.
@@NobleRaider2747Rings of Power was hot garbage. Respectfully

Fuck, that art really is gorgeous though. How tf does it look so muddy in the game?
Nacon's previous works...oh boy now I'm worried about Robocop rogue city.
Yeah that game is a trainwreck ready to happen.

No excuses.
Same with the games we are STILL waiting

I'm liking this before watching the video because the title is exactly how I feel.
I wonder if this was released as a $10-15 game, would it be different. But at $60 + the more expensive copy.... come on!
I do a really good Gollum impression I could’ve been a better voice actor. They couldn’t find someone to even sound like him

It's a shame that this led to daedelic closing its development team. They made some good and memorable games.
That is an excellent question. And the answer is: I'm not sure.
It sound almost like if you are defending them
Doesn't matter the reason they ship a product ther they knew was un finish
Meme turned into game
Best guess I got
It the reviews were good I would’ve bought it when on sale for about £6
we kept pre-ordering shitty games ofc something like gollem would happen. stop pre-ordering anything

To look on the bright side, Gollum could be the most impressive game the studio has ever created...
Despite the guys shit talking the studio was known for successful and acclaimed point and click games.
