I can't tell you how relieved I am to read this..I've got the Harry (same same ) and the smell has defeated me, I was about to throw out my 12 month old hoover as the smell (vomit, stinky dead animal smell ugh) and I've done the same as you, spending days thouroughly cleaning every single part of it and nothing helps, so I will try this..thanks so much, if it works I'll have saved hundreds

These are good I also use three dryer sheets especially old ones soaked in zaflora over night hetty smells amazing now x

You are a legit saviour! I threw up today turning on my Henry (only 5 months old and only hoovers a single person apartment) the smell was unbearable and stunk out the entire room! Staight to homebargains and they have made the world of difference! Gutted its only masking the problem as oppose to long term like you say!
I get mine from amazon and they were £7 for Lilly of the valley, I will be getting these from now on. Didn’t ever really think of looking when I was shopping. Thank you for that xx

My mother was a professional cleaner and always used Henry, the older models that didn’t have a bag with the larger motors and they never smelled nasty just dusty. Dyson after Dyson in my new home with dogs and cats, living next to a train track (lots of dust from the trains). Finally gave up after killing 2 dysons (they end up stinking to high hell and continual blockages with this fine plaster like dust and fur), bagless hoover constantly blocked and smelling. Remembered old Henry and bought one - immense difference. Now after 2 weeks the smell, not a machine fault - these things are monsters in capacity - huge bags ergo no not changed often so what sits in there is for a long time. Large capacity as they were originally aimed at commercial - emptied every few days no problem, not so at home. Vac fresheners do the trick and best of it - even with a nasty load in the bag, it is sealed up and thrown away.

Buy the genuine bags btw the older paper ones are trash and genuine to support a truly British manufacturer.
Thats great to know. Thank you. I've been using that lavender pillowmist stuff in the filter and it seems to work but doesn't last long and is quite expensive. I will deffinately try this option.

Even my cat runs out the back door when i use old hetty with the stink. So these freshners are brilliant i must get some of these. Thanks.

My mum used to dab lavender oil onto cotton wool and put inside fresh bag. Smelt lovely 🙂🌹😊🎈
Within the casing, around the motor is a foam filter which gets smellier as you hoover , Remove casing to access the foam and put it on a delicates wash in the washer.Once dry put it back around the motor casing
This is a good idea!! I've been using Lenor unstoppables scent beads. Will try these those and save the beads for the clothes
I have just watched this and ordered some of ebay for the mean time ive used the unstoppables you stick in your washer and it doesn't do the job well buts it's alot better non of my kids have ran out the room shouting it sticks 😀
For my Henry hoover, he was getting old and absolutely stunk like sick, I thought I might have to throw Henry out because of the sick smell, but I put some cheap air fresheners for hoovers off of amazon smells lovely 😊, you can wash the Henry and hetty filters just not in the washing machine or they will tear, for our dyson v6 I wash the filters every month, I take off the fabric off the filter and put an air freshner in there smells lovely, like this video thanks for the tip, Henry gets very smelly still.

Hello, I have had my Dyson V8 for 15 months now and it has never smelt. My reason is that I wash both filters once a month and I empty the waste canister after EVERY TIME I use it. I have never added any smell scent strips and I have never sucked up anything that has any damp attached two it.
As an example of how fresh smelling it is, this might seem strange, but today I cut my granddaughters fringe and because her hair was slightly damp, the cut pieces stuck to her face, so I used my V8 on the high setting sideways, so that the air from the Blue Hepa filter blew the hairs off of her face and she even said, "Ah grandad that's lovely and cool" :-). Yep strange I know but for yourself, maybe you have accidentally sucked up some minor damp dust somewhere and it's that that's inside the cyclone that's smelling.
I have stripped down my cyclone many times to clean it out thoroughly and although you shouldn't have to, if damp is in there, then my guess is, that's where your smell is coming from. So wash filters once a month or less (LET COMPLETLY DRY) and empty cannister after EVERY vacuuming. I live in SE London so if your near, I'll clean it out for you for nothing.
Thank you so much I will try this, recently I got kittens and also a child visited and vomited all over my carpet and ever since my Henry smell of old vomit and a cat pee smell from where I vacuum up stray cat litter in the carpet. Fingers crossed this will help. I'm off to savers now to get some 😊

Hi I discovered, what caused the smell in my vacum cleaner. Funny enough, it was small drops of water from washing hands in the kitchen sink. when I went to vacum, without realising, there was very small water drops on the floor, invisible to the eye. Later on It smelt like smelly socks!!!. I would pour 2 tablespoons of washing powder into the vacum bag and that did the trick for a week.

Always use these pads with any vacumn I've had. Brilliant and cheap. Tumble dryer sheets also work too if you can't find the pads
Do you put them on them inside the bag or on the filter? I have James vacuum cleaner and tumble dryer sheets shall I put them on the filter?
I just got a hetty and I love her and she is good for keeping me company wall am vacuuming at hotels lol and she is quiet
I love my Hetty but it smells I put the disks ware the bag is and really helps!

I just think it's something to do with the hoover as I have a Henry and no pets and mine stinks I've tried a few things to get rid of the smell so when I clean my filter at weekend I'm going to try this thank you cos I can't cope with the smell anymore ❤️
Great video, I always thought it was just me having this problem! smells a bit like sick but I always put it down to hoovering near the cat's food bowl and thought it was bits of cat food that made it smell. I shall try these, I'm sure I've seen them at B&Ms but never thought to pick any up as thought they would be crap. Silly me! x

Toni Interior got to be honest my carpets look like new since I bought this best hoover ever. .just hope I don't get that stink you're on about. .👍👍👍
These Henrys are great vacs but, they’re designed for workshop environments collecting large loads. In a household setting, they collect debris gradually, which means the waste tends to compost inside the unit, hence the smell. Vac fresheners work well.

I like to put lavender essential oil on the filter oh sometimes I put baking soda and lavender essential oil in a little mesh bag and put it under the Hoover
I live in the US and I just bought a Henry 160 and he's stuck in the US we don't have those febreze things so what I did is I put some carpet fresher on the carpet and now Henry smells nice
I Have the same problem with my Henry and I just put three or four car air fresheners inside the hoover and that seems to work okay

Numatic do Microfresh filters with charcoal in, that are supposed to keep the smells down, unfortunately they don’t really work either.
Hahahaha! Im laughing so much at your video because im going through the exact same!!!! The kids now run into their rooms as soon as Hetty gets switched on 🤣.Ive done the exact same as you, put 4 in at a time from Home Bargains. Like you said, i find as soon as they dry up its time to change them again! However i have just purchased a new Hetty hoover bag that you can wash in the washing machine maybe that might help you as it did me. Xx.

Good video! Vacuum cleaners can get an odor to them after considerable use. Pet dander and food particles leave some unpleasant odors in the bag or bin when they decompose. I have two Kirbys and a Royal. They all use disposable HEPA bags, and I use scent tabs inside the disposable bags, or I use scented oil on the bags. You can also use a cotton ball covered in scented oil and place it in the bin/ bag, or a dryer sheet. Kirby makes their own scented oil called Kirby Odorific, and it really does help with vacuum odors.

Don’t throw Henry away it’s not his fault just put air fresheners in the filter it’s pet hair that causes the smell
Can you please do a video or even explain about the filters for The pink Hetty Hoover??
When I replaced the filter the new one would not fit!! Are they universal?? Or do the filters be sized differently depending on what Henry hoover you have?? I am at a loss 😅
I've got a hetty and she sucks real good. Best vac we've ever bought and we've had loads of different vacuums in the past with the fancy filters and complicated parts and after a while they stank. Never had a problem with ours.
Hetty is an amazing vacuum 🥰 but she does get smelly at times 😂

It’s 100% the dogs. I had Henry for months before I took him over my girlfriends house. When he was at my place he never smelled, and I used him probably every other day. No odor. I took him to my girlfriends house, where she has a dog, and immediately the “Henry odor” started. I’ve started to clean his bin with rubbing alcohol when I change the bag and spray the premotor filter with Lysol with each bag change and that seems to keep the smell in check. Either way, it’s 100% related to dog/pet dander.
But wouldn't that mean the dogs stink too? My dogs honestly dont smell they are groomed every 6 weeks and hygiene areas cleaned weekly. ive had my Hetty around 12 years......and its always stunk.
@@ToniInterior Dogs themselves might not smell, but they still leave small amounts of bacteria on the carpets and floors which after vacuuming multiply quickly in the bag.

If you have another hoover then he over the filter and put Air freshener sticks in it and it will smell nice for like at least a couple of months and they have to change it again
I ordered a re-useable (zipped) Bag also coming with some freshers, I’ll let you what the outcome is

I brought the re-usable ones too and mine isnt good it always leaks out dust causing the suction to be be crap which means I have to clean the hoover once a week
The reusable bags leak and lose suction super quickly. They’ll probably cause your motor to burn out quicker too.

I've had my Henry Xtra for 6yrs now and I just avoid wet or food shit like the plauge. We have 2 dogs too although I live in the middle of a cornfield in canada praticly so I'm probably just immune to it now lmao
I use essential oils. I put some drops on the filter, and when I hoover the lovely smell is all over the room.

Make sure you are using genuine hepa flo bags. Don't hover up anything damp like food. If it does smell you can try changing the bag regularly or hoovering up "shake n vac".

The smell comes from the hose, give it a good clean
Its the filter. Just like any vacuum the filters always need changing or cleaning 🤣 no need to take the whole thing apart. Also a great way of cleaning the inside of the hose is detstch it and take it to the jet wash at the car wash. Wash the inside, the jetwash is powerful enough to blast out anything stuck inside and onky takes minutes while you are washing your car

Try washing the tubes and hose. That should get rid of the smell if it’s still there.

Toni Interior thank u for replying, I can wash the filter but the smell comes from the back bit which doesn’t unscrew like yours unfortunately:(
The green Henry, otherwise known as the Henry Petcare HPC160 would be the better choice for you over the Hetty. The reason being is the Petcare model has a carbon infused filter (much like an air purifier) to deodorize the vacuum's exhaust air. I would prefer this model even without having any pets because it doesn't have a vacuum smell. You may be able to just buy the filter for the Petcare model and just put that in your Hetty.

Could I suggest giving the hose a really good wash in really hot water with a strong detergent, soaking it then s good rinse would remove the smell. It’s a problem with any hoover really with a hose, they get gunk caught in them.
I’ve done this love bot it didn’t help it seems to be the filter with Hetty, but using this technique keeps the long under control 😂 thanks so much 🥰
You can wash the filters as long as it’s hand washed gently. Just use white washing power or any detergent and leave it to soak in warm water
they smell when filters get clogged, the smell gets into motor and runs out back of air vent.
I think it's Harry Hoover that has a charcoal filter ..probably can buy spares and maybe it fits in to a hetty
Just hoover up some bicarb or rub bicarb into the filter! 😊
Clip a car vent air freshener to the vent at the back of the hoover that blows out the air x

Um my one smells of burning no pet smell would the air freshener stop the smell?
If it smells of burning you may need to get that checked, that doesn’t sound safe 😢 xxx
@@ToniInterior dont worry it’s sorted it self out now, it’s had a new motor so the carbon brushes are seating into the motor, I had it running for over and hour and the smell has gone

The only problem here is that by putting stuff into the cleaner is that you're only masking the smell and not getting rid off it.
Just checked out that Ebay store...and there feedback is abysmal Tony...so I bought a pkt of bags of screwfix alot more expensive but the proper ones not after market rubbish...going to b&m tomorrow for them vacuum fresheners..take care.

Hmmmm, I suppose I am lucky than. We have been using our Hetty and Henry pretty much daily past 3.5 years and never ever experienced any smell issues with either of them, nor I ever heart of such problems with numatics. We too have dog and 3 lil boys who bring a lots of dirt into our house as they love outdoors. Thank you for sharing this info. ;-)
@Jade Holland well you shouldn’t be hoovering up anything that’s wet or damp if water gets to that motor, it will kill it

If you think about it , Why don't they smell when new, It's because the filter starts to smell as it gets old. Try changing the filter . 6 pounds on eBay, or try washing it under a tap or hosepipe.
Everyone has the same issue with Hetty and Henry. It’s just a vomit smell that was never vacuumed up 😂 but it’s easily fixed with a new filter and some vacuum freshener as per the video states 👌🏻
