      Rxh7 and then Rg8 by black, otherwise Rxh8 or Qxg6 mate. The rook on h7 leaves white with a crushing position.

    • @rivetace
      @rivetace Před 4 měsíci +3

      @dlompy9696 With g6 played, black can block the mate after Rxh7 Rxh7 Qxg6 with Rf7. Then white can pick up the knight on g4, and the game goes on. When black opens up their light square bishop, white's only chance of keeping the game equal is to pin the rook to the king with Qh5, with the plan of trading a minor piece for the rook, and black must try to thwart this plan.
      Overall, though, the game is roughly equal (if imbalanced), so you could say g6 solved black's problems in a way.

    At about :24, your move Qd3 creates the possible fork of !Q!&!R! by black's move Nf2. The 'virtual-zugswang' Kxf2 fixes the fork, but kills castling and creates a vulnerable white K position, IMHO 😮

    • @rivetace
      @rivetace Před 4 měsíci

      White's king is a little exposed, sure, but black has no development and can't even move a bishop without moving a pawn first, while white has easy development with Nf3 covering the king and two open bishops ready to cover even more, plus the queen is already out too. White will have to play defensively, but that's okay when you're up a piece for two pawns against no development. Not to mention, you're still threatening h7 after Kxf2, so black has to delay development by a move to protect it, making any potential threat to white's king even slower.

    This is why you don't just start taking stuff when presented. If you don't know the position and can't see why they're giving you material, leave the tension and continue to develop. Also "no convenient defense to this pawn"? Only if you conveniently ignore the convenient move g6.

    You present 'playing h3, getting ready to play g4' ... like it's common sense, but it's a bad plan.
    After fxg4 hxg4, and black doesn't play Nxg4, your position is pretty lame.
