- Here is the Mullein plant, Verbascum thapsus. It is also know as great mullein or common mullein and are a biennial plant. They are native to Europe, northern Africa, and Asia, and introduced in the Americas and Australia. Although long used in herbal medicine, no high-quality clinical research has been conducted on Verbascum thapsus as of 2018. Oil from the flowers was used against catarrhs, colics, earaches, frostbite, eczema and other external conditions. The leaves are often smoked for many respiratory conditions like bronchitis. Verbascum (/vɜːrˈbæskəm/), common name mullein (sg. /ˈmʌlᵻn/) (also known as velvet plant), is a genus of about 250 species of flowering plants in the figwort family Scrophulariaceae. They are native to Europe and Asia, with the highest species diversity in the Mediterranean.
Mullein or "mullein leaf" often refers to the leaves of Verbascum thapsus, the great or common mullein, which is frequently used in herbal medicine. They are biennial or perennial plants, rarely annuals or subshrubs, growing to 0.5 to 3 metres (1.6 to 9.8 ft) tall. The plants first form a dense rosette of leaves at ground level, subsequently sending up a tall flowering stem. Biennial plants form the rosette the first year and the stem the following season. The leaves are spirally arranged, often densely hairy, though glabrous (hairless) in some species. The flowers have five symmetrical petals; petal colours in different species include yellow (most common), orange, red-brown, purple, blue, or white. The fruit is a capsule containing numerous minute seeds. In gardening and landscaping, the mulleins are valued for their tall narrow stature and for flowering over a long period of time.

Mine took at least -10 degrees F this last winter and stayed green the whole way through it. I didn't know most of what you told about it, I think I bought the seed to try it for toilet paper just in case , I will have to try it on the bug bites. Baker Creek suggest cutting the blooms off as soon as they appear to keep it from spreading seeds, I think it is invasive, The seeds are very tiny. It' is nice to know it works so well for toilet paper. Thanks

A few years ago i gathered wild Mullein in Idaho put it in the back of the car. An hour later the car became full of thousands of black insects, so bad that i had to pull over . I then realized that the mullein was full if the bugs.
i done similar but with drift wood! keep some bags in the car then put it in a bag and tie a knot and your good! thanks for watching : )
