Me too! I finally begged a cousin of mine to listen to a specific playlist of Ren. And he was the one that introduced me to Bo Burnham so he seriously should like Ren.

That’s the one thing I find fascinating with Ren, I never know until it’s over what I’m going to get when I hit play. I am never disappointed.

I think this song is a representation of the insanity in the world today and how it compares to history. I believe the setting himself on fire was him honoring the burnging monk which was an amazing story in itself.

Ren does have quite a resemblance to Cillian Murphy AKA Tommy Shelby (Peaky Blinders). FYI Cillian once turned down a record deal in the late 90s. He was oiginally the lead singer, guitarist, and lyricist of the rock band The Sons of Mr. Green Genes, before he started acting.

I grew up in council housing in southern England till the age of almost 10. My nan lived as a single mum in council housing post World War II until she remarried. She lived and died in a rough neighborhood her whole life. I moved downunder in 1975. Went back in ‘97 and was horrified how she was living. I’ve had chronic pain for 30 years undiagnosed, severe anxiety disorder and depression and have two ASD kids 19 & 21 living at home. The struggle is real and it is a dance. Keep it up man. I don't know what to be more impressed about. His music, his lyrics, his messages, his videos, his acting, or the fact that he never seems to run out of abandoned alleyways, buildings, hospitals, streets, etc.
But yeah, i feel you. Somewhere along the line this weird role reversal happened where instead of the ads supporting the artist, the artist now has to support the ads. You can't make a statement anymore, you just have to provide mindless entertainment so someone else can paste their logo all over it. Or you pay out of pocket to have the rules bent for you, but it's a lose lose. The artist loses, the audience loses, and some soulless corporation is squeezing money out of both.
