I weep for the loss of an entertainers like these : every respect given.
Fabulous performers and entertainers who the whole family could sit together and watch and laugh their socks off. Loved them both.
Not only was Norman wisdom a good singer, great comedian and he could play many musical instruments. He was seriously mulitalented what an amazing man!
This whole show was put together within like four or five days, due to A strike at the time. Just amazing…..
Show me one person alive today, with as much talent as Norman Wisdom. He could do anything, he was blessed & if you read his life story, you know somebody 'up there' was watching over him . . . RIP
Those guys worked so damned hard.
Sunday night at the palladium was bath night for me as a kid. We watched it without fail
With my tin bath by the fire.
And me
Tin bath by the fire kid too. There was no TV in our house until after I left home.
…. Ahhhh the tin bath in front of the fire - for the youngsters the tin bath was zinc and sat on the floor with no plumbing and the fire was a coal fire in the home - I well remember the coalman with his horse drawn cart 😀😀😀
@richard999 ahhh you see, we were modern. We had a gas fire. And that was before we got converted to north sea gas. This was coal gas. Lol
God. How the hell we survived i have idea.
… and that was another thing that has gone …. the town gas plants with the big gasometers that went up and down during the day … and the conversion to North Sea gas was another saga😂😂😂
How I wish I could step back in time..this is pure genius. Two incredibly talented gentlemen.
I am too young to remember this programme but I agree 2 great performers.
@@TonyWeaving😊😅
Sunday night at the palladium was ace, ace, ace, won’t give today’s weekend(or any day tv) house room
Bruce and Norman at their peak. Just listen to the huge laughs they got. An all time classic.
No tv 📺📺📺show today in 2023 is as entertaining and fun to see👀👀👀as this masterpiece so funny 😊😊😊
I'm 72 and I can remember watching this as a 10 year old with the rest of my family. It was a great Sunday nights entertainment and school the next day.
I never realised Norman Wisdom was so incredibly talented, a musician (multi-instrumentalist) singer, comedian plus his physical flexibility, it’s absolutely mind blowing. God knows what else he could do. Pleasure to watch.
I never realised what a talent Norman Wisdom was!! Bravo!!🙏❤️
When I was a kid we went to see his films in the cinema and laughed like drains!
You will never see their like again, this was LIVE!, i watched it, and didnt appreciate what i was seeing, LIVE, means LIVE, NO SECOND CHANCE... good or bad, it was going on air..
That's why if you look carefully at the wallpaper sketch, there are a couple of errors - the A frame collapsing, and Bruce dropping the paintbrush just before he upends the bucket over Norman.
Truly talented professional entertainers. Thank you for making us happy :)
When entertainers could entertain
Talent, talent, talent.
Nothing else to say.
you nailed it
We always watched Sunday Night at the Palladium, but afterwards it was bed and school in the morning, so for me a mix of fun and foreboding as that Monday morning feeling at the end of an exciting weekend playing outside all day with all my mates. What great days!
My favourite all through my childhood.. NORMAN.. He was sent a card by my mate for his birthday and he responded with an invitation to meet him in his dressing room after a show, after that he always answered a birthday card sent every year.. AN absolute gentleman was NORMAN.. the decorator sketch they did together was hilarious. all we get now is crap so called comedians. Norman was NO FOOL.. Simply Brilliant.
Amazing stuff, Norman Wisdom is a true comedic legend.
Two extremely talented and versatile performers.
They were called Stars in those days. You don't seem to here that word nowadays.
Rest In Peace lads, and Thank You.
💐
@gazza2933
Roses grow on you !!
What amazing ability! A live performance done to perfection. Two masters of their art, honing their skills to the absolute height. I do not think there will ever be such a powerful explosion of talent again. Giants!
To the absolute height eh ? Not much height in the Norman Wisdom department !!
Come on it's just a gag.Norman Wisdom was a genius.
I remember watching this on the day. They were both brilliant.
Those were happy and innocent days wish we could go back in time ?
A Master Class of Genius! The likes will never be seen again! Consummate Professionals that were both Masters of their art! LEGENDS in every sense!
When entertainers were entertaining! Masters of their craft. No smut. Able to bring the house down with roars of laughter and stop the show with a tearjerking song. Brucie and Norman, what a show!
Wow, I bet they would have loved to have seen this one in colour. Such talent. Seen this so many times in mono, but never thought I'd get to see it in colour.
They did perform the wallpaper sketch again at a Royal Variety Performance in the 1980s, so that may still exist in colour somewhere.
These two greats did the show when the unions put a block on live performances. I was 9 this night and I can remember it still. When entertainers grew up on stage and not on the internet. I miss these people and those days so much.
What talent. True professionals. The so called 'stars' of today can't even come close to matching their genius.
God bless Norman Wisdom- a very talented man❤️
Agreed. I must confess I wasn't a great Norman Wisdom or Bruce Forsyth fan, but these two carrying everything on their back and in front of a live audience was a feat of inspired genius. Hats off to this great piece of artistry in history. Made better preserved and appreciated of course by you Matt adding colour to it! So well done mate! You're actually doing a service by spreading, enlightening and no doubt capturing a wider and younger audience to the past!
Norman is brill, but bruce ain't one bit funny, never was
I agree. See it a new light now!
@@gibby7233 Bruce was not really a stand up comic. But as an all round entertainer/host (compere/musician/dancer etc) he was without peers. I was lucky to see him live on a few occasions. He could read and would have the audience in his pocket right from the outset. This was in the days of variety, where a comic didn't have to tell crude jokes, or give his opinion on politics or society to get a rise from the audience. Seeing Bruce on the screen made one feel safe and confident that we were in good hands for the next hour or so.
Norman ? Ah here. I am probably younger than you. Growing up in the 1980s and 1990s watching his films on Saturday afternoon , was great stuff. Then Lee Evans came onto the scene and kinda ripped off his act, though in fairness to Evan’s , he had some funny stand ups when he did more adult stuff (exposed on Dave though )
As for Brucie, nah, he’s a gem. A bit “corny” for us “too school for school” kiddos , but Christ I loved when he pulled off those one liners and “put downs” . He was brilliant on Have I got News For you (even if it’s scripted) and sure, those catch phrases …. Classic.
Absolutely, both brilliant musicians!!! And well timed comedy at its best. Loved them both!
What brilliant amazing talent, never will we see this again. Wish we could bring these days back xxxxxx
Unreal talent - I was at the Palladium last Saturday I didn"t realise performances like that had taken place there. RIP Norman and Brucie. They borh look so young here 💙💎🙏 Brucie would have made a great Fagin :))
I thought he did play Fagin once !
Much more generous than Fagin.Do you recall how he would give contestants on Play your cards right who would have otherwise gone home with nothing a case of his own Champagne. What a guy.Miss you Sir Bruce.
Absolutely amazing a performance of this calibre is and always will be a one off ❤
Truly magical. Real TV Gold. Many thanks for sharing this with us. Can'r recall ever laughing so much.
What an absolute delight!
Thanks for posting it, what an incredible talent these two gents were.
Simply brilliant!
Just pure simple comedy with a large dose of natural talent. No smut or blue material needed.Great family fun . . .. All gone. Thank God for CZcams eh.😉
They could both sing and dance for real, they worked hard to learn their craft, and on top of it all they were funny. Norman Wisdom could perform on almost any kind of musical instrument, all self-taught. And his timing for gags was impeccable. Truly talented. And funny right into old age.
Came across this accidentally and my first reaction was 'a load of outdated crap'....Well it is outdated but it sure ain't crap. Its devastating! How much craft and talent and live as you like.Speaking as someone old enough to just about remember I now find it all quite moving✌️
41:15 Is tv Gold !!! Can`t bellieve Brucie was still going strong up until a few years ago.
I watched this wide eyed, I knew them so well growing up but never knew they played anything, what talent you had to have those days
I was 6 when this was on the TV, I don’t know if I was in bed at this time or not, as it was a school night, 62 years ago, two great entertainers among many that we have lost
Amazing that the show was put together at all, as most strikes left with repeats aired or nothing shown.
I loved Norman Wisdon when I was a child. We ued to watch Sunday Night at the Palladium every week - as did most of the country! But, I must admit, until seeing this video, I didnt realise just how talented and capable an entertainer he was. Amazing!
It just don't get any better amazing the good old days
Only today I was thinking what happened to our variety shows.... So good!
this is how sunday nights , were even in the early 1970s i would be praying for the sound of a chaotic monday. we knew what boredom was then as young kids old bruce was alright though . 👈👺👀👀👍
what a lovely man miss them both RIP
I have watched many entertainers in my 77 years and, although Bruce was great,I always feel Norman Wisdom was the tops.
Great memorys.
Absolutely Brilliant!!
With the Tiller Girls, I remember it well, as soon as the prog. finished 9pm it was straight to bed, school in the morning. I remember we girls practiced our Tiller routines in the playground ... this was when kids played with joy and life was fun of course, not like today
Brings back memories !!
I was 8 when this was aired . It still evokes such wonderful memories ! And the closing scene .....2 gentlemen enjoying their company in the most innocent way ...... thankyou
two class performers, sometimes massively underrated...
Funnier than I expected them to be. This is the sort of entertainment my mum & dad would have gone to the theatre for.
Brilliant that's what I call talented! You don't get that these days!!!!!!!!
Norman Wisdom was an errand boy in the shop across the street from us in the eatly 1950s.
This film what a genius Norman Wisdom was.
sheer brilliance
Brucie and Norman incredible Entertainers! It’s incredible how many instruments Norman mastered
Thank goodness we have recordings to look back on what real variety and entertainment is🙂😂💕💕
Wow,this took me back to when I was eleven years old and recall seeing this at the time. Wondeful performance by these two brilliant entertainers.
Ive just seen this, it was before I was born but its absolutely brilliant. X
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, that is entertainment.
More than a bit of Norman Wisdom in Lee Evans 30 years later
The wallpapering sketch was brilliant.
They had such a lot to remember!
Simply brilliant entertainers in every way.
Greats. Miss them.
Like most of the UK, my Mum and Dad always watched this programme. I can't remember if I saw this particular show but I expect I did. Two of the greatest stars of the time. Such a shame I could only give it one thumbs up! I always remember reading a regular comic strip about Norman in the comic 'Film Fun', back in the fifties.
I once saw a show there, wish I could have remembered the year and acts, it was a star studded event, that haunting theme tune, I did get a chance to return there to go on stage and look at that revolving circle ⭕️ thou.
Wow, what a couple of amazing superstar entertainers.. They sure do t make talent like this anymore.. Norman Wisdom, singer, dancer, multi instrumentalist, comedian, genius. They should make a movie about his life, and the right man to play him would be Lee Evans!
Sunday night at the London Palladium was an absolute must to watch in the 1960’s. Amazing talent from all over the World. ‘A’ listers of the entertainment industry brought into your fireside living room. The hilarity of beet the clock. Very happy memories of those times.
How many instruments do you want to play, what skill and genius that's what you call real entertainment THANK YOU!
Absolutely amazing love these two brings back so many memories
I was four years old in 1961, but I can still recall this amazing performance. All done live!
I was also four in 1961.Nothing touches this today. We were so lucky to have Sir Bruce for so long. I don't know you but I'm sure you can understand why I wish you well.
I'm in awe. simply breathtaking!
What brilliant musicians they both were as well. From Ireland.
This entire show is a work of genius
What a legend Norman wisdom is multitalented as well as being a comedian he's a beautiful singer an actor and could play all different instruments I love him used to watch his films with my father my father would be in hysterics laughing a beautiful soul r.i.p peace norman ❤
What brilliant eras and stars 🌟
didn’t have a tele, but watched at my friends house
True talent there!
Brilliant.............
It's amazing how many comedians are great musicians.
You look at this and today’s so called Stars …wow I miss these days some talent there .😊
Must agree with all that’s been said. Yes I was a kid but remember them well. A couple of todays presenters( who I won’t name) should watch to see what real talent is!
@edwardhockley3315
Only a couple? The list is so long you couldn't possibly name them !!
It was a big night every Sunday.
Perfection
AMAZING
What an excellent find; thank you.
My dear old Dad told me about this episode. He would have loved to have seen it in colour.
Loved this.❤
REMEMBER , THE FAMOUS LONDON PALLADIUM. AS FROM 1962!!!! MY FAMILY ATTENDED MANY SHOWS ! ESPECIALLY! TOM JONES !!!! THAT WAS A SCREAM !! MANY THANKS FOR THE MEMORY !!! FROM, U.K. (2023). NORMAN WISDOM WAS A SUPER GREAT PERFOMER ALWAYS !!! LOVED HIS FILMS UP TO 1969. AFTER THAT HMMMM !! BRUCE FORSYTH, OKAY ! LATER HE WAS " FUNNY" IN "THE GENERATION GAME" !!! & "STRICTLY BALLROOM DANCING" FROM, U.K. (2023).
Absolute gold!
....remember this was all live ...all done in one take !!! .....just stunning entertainers ...poor Norman must have been dying !!!!
They loved what they were doing and knew it backwards
If I remember correctly the following weeks show ended with Norman coming on and dancing the Polka with Bruce.
take me back to then not like the England of today so sad now
The younger generation of now would not appreciate the talent of Bruce & Norman or many actors/entertainers of those tims.
@johnpelham8710
They've all got their heads buried in their phones.Oh dear so have I !! Still look at what we're watching.
How physically fit did these two have to be to do this , if I tried to do a fraction of that Id have been carried off face down .
Brucie is a true legend...lol He knew how to work an audience...
