With this video, you just made me think about one thing.
In the project I'm working on, which is called Blastbeasts, I created a possibility for some of this creatures to gain a form, the Crystal Spirit Form.
Blastbeasts are creatures who existed once and came out of the core of the Earth. This event made a huge explosion (which is why they have this name) and a Phoenix formed from part of the lava that came out of the volcano. There were some spheres in its tails, which formed 5 beasts, called the Nucleus Beasts. This ones gave life to the creature that populated Earth. Every of this Nucleus beasts had a Power and created beings with that power. They expanded greatly through the planet, but in a certain moment there was too "wealth" and there were wars between every creature to obtain a greater piece of land and/or more resources. One day, a portal opened in the world, revealing tons of wicked and hatred creatures that had a plan with their "boss": conquering Earth and making it one of the Dark Worlds in their plan of destruction. The Evil being (the enemy's boss) fought the Mighty Being (the Phoenix): after an exhausting battle, the Evil Being lost. During the battle, afraid of the worst, a dragonic Blastbeast created a copy of the portal and sacrificed his life to discover the source of that hatred invasion, but he didn't have a plan, so he was discovered and the copy of the portal was destroyed. The hatred portal was also destroyed. The explosion could easily extinct every Blastbeast, but the battle between the two beings made a deal: the fragment of the copied portal would have incorporated the good blastbeasts, the fragment of the original one Incorporated the evil ones. Now, a Blastbeast can be awakened by a human if his soul connects with the soul of a blastbeast, which was stuck in its temporary sleep state.
Now, I'm so sorry for the length of the comment, but let me explain how a battle works.
There are two blastbattlers (that's how people who can fight are called) and each one of them has an artificial portal to interact with Blastbeasts. They exit from this artificially-made portal and fight alongside humans. There can be portal modules which can significatively improve every battle, they can add more effectiveness or special abilities. Well, the Crystal Spirit Form can be gained by using one of this Modules. Obviously you have to find that source of power that will be put in that module.
