    I do exactly those products for many, many years now... the only difference is that I put essential oils in it. I love the lemon and spruce ones... leave the things shiny and more disinfected with the lemon and sooo good smelling with the spruce one. Now, just one thing to add... is that vinegar IS a disinfectant and kills loads on viruses and bacterias.
    A trick also... isopropyl/water and essential oils (like eucalyptus, thyme, lemon, orange, etc..) in a small spray bottle is making a very nice house deodorant spray which also "purify" the air... very good when somebody in the house have a flu... help to limit the contamination.

    Thanks for the cleaner recipes! These are wonderful suggestions for 90% of modern houses.
    Ammonia is a most powerful degreaser. Back in the day when we really did wax our kitchen floors, ammonia was the only thing that got the old yellowed wax up.
    if there's a thick black greasy muck on your kitchen cabinets, either straight ammonia or a mix containing ammonia gets it off.
    if its a very, very old house with blackened layers of hand oils on old banisters, knobs, doors, or anywhere, ammonia gets it up. When the filth is layered and thick, the ammonia isn't even reaching the woodwork until layers are cleaned off. [ammonia is drying, but with woodwork glycerin and a spray of water heals it - plus then the appropriate wax for protection - there are many wood-healing recipes out there]
    Ammonia in the washer is great for getting skin flakes, body oils, and perspiration out, especially with today's lousy detergents and cold water washes.
    Many cleaning shows focus on clean suburban houses with drywall and easily cleaned counters, baseboards and such. So yea, light cleaners are sufficient.
    But rural living in old farmhouses is a very different cleaning challenge...!! mouse poop, drafts bearing dust, oil furnaces that create grime and sticky surfaces, crumbling rock and mortar walls, oh man.

    • @tracyjohnson5023
      @tracyjohnson5023 Před rokem +2

      So right! Grew up in a 1780s stone house my mom still lives in. Ammonia is the only thing that could deal with sigler oil stove gunk.
      Original pine floors that have been polyurethaned, then buffed with Johnson's paste wax. Every year I still strip old wax, reapply and buff floors for my mom.
      Polyurethane protects the floors but it still scratches. It's a ton of work to redo poly, so the wax protects it. Much rather have wax scratches lol.

    4:27 Something one should be aware of... "In this analysis, a 50% isopropyl alcohol solution kills Staphylococcus Aureus in less than 10 seconds (pg. 238), yet a 90% solution with a contact time of over two hours is ineffective."
    Also, when concentration is below 50%, disinfection usefulness drops dramatically. 70% IPA is most effective at disinfecting.

      Not to much, you'll end up with a sudsey mess.
      Using his recipe for mixing, add about a fourth or even an eighth of a cup of the Dawn.
      I clean homes to make a little extra money. And this is basically what I use to get soap scum off of tubs and showers. I have even used it on the glass doors in the shower. Which to me was fantastic cuz it cut straight through the hard water stains along with the little bit of soap scum that was on the glass door.

      Ran into an issue with cabinets with the same problem.
      Dawn and water would probably be the safest but be careful with using a scrubbing. It messed up a section that was inconspicuous. Showed to the homeowner. They said it was all right they knew that it had issues. So I will use a little prepared hot water with Dawn, no scrubby. So no more damage is done.

      That is the reason why you do not overdo it with the Dawn dish detergent. I know there are some recipes that tell you a cup of water a cup of vinegar and a cup of Dawn dish detergent. That is way too much dish detergent. If need be, due to hard water and very bad soap scum, I would start with 1/16 of a cup. If it seems like you need a little more then go up to an eighth.

      DO NOT USE METAL SPRAY BOTTLES.
      I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE PLASTIC SPRAY BOTTLES.
      I know some people who will reuse window cleaner bottles for this stuff.

    My wife can't stand the smell of vinegar, so I substitute 3 T. of granulated citric acid per 1 c. of water.

    • @ajalicea1091

      I personally would not recommend it due to the fact fruit vinegars have a stickiness to them naturally.

      Good question! For me hydrogen peroxide is used in more specific/specialty cleaning tasks not so much as a general cleaner.

    What about dog urine in carpets? How do I get rid of odor and clean?

    • @tracyjohnson5023
      @tracyjohnson5023 Před rokem +2

      Baking soda worked into carpet well let sit for 20-30 minutes then vacuum up.
      Vinegar/water solution sprayed on let sit a few minutes and blot up with micro fiber cloth.
      I do one or both of these things first then spray a mix of water and pet odor product onto carpet. Work it in with soft brush and suck it up with shop vac.
