    You (and the owner) should be able to file a complaint and have that AI's certificate revoked! This kind of thing grinds my gears! 🤬

      That would suck time from my life. Life's too short. The FAA needs to do that. Thanks for watching!

    SSDD seen this a many times in my 50 plus years. I had a similar situation one time and was still working on the aircraft when Mr. Pencil Whip showed up in my hanger screaming at me that I was a nasty rectal canal. Seems the new owner's lawyer had already contacted the old owner and the IA. Well after me being as nice as I could for a least a minute, I unloaded on him with several other things I had found, and he cussed me out again. Now for the big picture. I was not alone in the hanger. There were two of my employees, one of which was also an experienced IA and my PMI. You know the FAA man assigned to my IA. My FAA PMI asked a question and was cussed out as well. At that point things went downhill fast. After a formal introduction the Fed collected my hostile visitors IA, A&P and his Commercial pilots' certificates and arranged for a meeting in the FSDO office in a couple weeks. At that point I asked my unruly guest to leave. He went outside got in an airplane and flew off into the wild blue yonder. That was also noted by the FAA. I do not know if this guy is still in aviation, but I do know that all his certificates were revoked. This idiot shot himself in both feet and is probably not smart enough to figure it out.

    This problem has 3 parts: 1. Jackleg cut-throat IAs. 2. The owners that keep hiring them for the "cheapest" annual. 3. Lack of enforcement.

    Sadly that is all too common to find an annual done by an irresponsible IA and finance by a cheap owner. Anytime I see an airplane for the first time, it gets gone over with a fine tooth comb in accordance with (NOT in reference to) the manufacturer's checklist. Further each and every AD is checked against the log book, the only thing I use the prior checklist for is to find a date when they said it got done so that I can locate it in the log book. I have run across 50 year old ADs that the compliance list says were previously complied with! People can die from fraudulent certifications! If a guy can't do this job right, they need to seriously reconsider their career field before they do kill someone!

    • @HangaRatz
      @HangaRatz  Před rokem

      I hope that the logbooks reflect the aircraft. Unfortunately, they only reflect the logbooks. I trust no one on a first annual. My peers refer to it as the "Bill Mill". I wear the moniker proudly! Thanks for watching!

    I owned a classic japanese sports car, The previous owner was Aircraft Mechanic,The Quad carburetors had all the wrong bolts and screws, Wiring was abhorrent. In general it was a death trap.
    So yes always find someone who really does know what they are doing.

    Out of curiosity would disassembling the carb be a part of the pre-buy or would you just be checking the Logs that AD's were were complied? thanks I love your content

    • @HangaRatz
      @HangaRatz  Před 11 měsíci

      Checking the logs is normally adequate. In this instance the IA who signed off the annual was basically a liar. Crazy stuff. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for another great video. Aviation isn't all sunshine and tailwinds. It's important, for your own survival, to find a good A&P/IA and to educate yourself about the airplane you're flying or going to fly. Try a couple of spotted cows when you visiting the land of the cheeseheads this week.

    Sucks that new owners get "Taken" by some. Of course it's primarily dangerous but it also ruins a potential owners dreams of enjoying flying.

    As an IA I would have to agree with you on this bogus maint., its everybody's fault on this airplane including the buyer for buying such a POS, there are probably many more issues, I would have to disagree with you on the new blue composite float, these have been in service now for many years and work great.

    • @HangaRatz
      @HangaRatz  Před rokem

      I think if an owner respects the 10-year recommended overhaul the float will be fine. I just see too many real old components flying around out there. Thanks for watching!

  • @nevadahamaker7149
    @nevadahamaker7149 Před rokem +1

    This is not the first story of this kind that I've heard. Does the owner of the aircraft have any legal recourse to recoup costs from the seller and/or the IA that signed off on that "annual"? If nothing else, that IA signed his name to false documentation so I'm sure the FAA would be interested in hearing about it.

    Hello HangaRatz, I enjoy watching your videos. That being said, I was hoping to get your thoughts on a problem I’m having. I bought a Lycoming IO-360 A1A used motor for my ‘68 Mooney. I’m trying to over haul it myself, and an issue with the cam gear. I timed the #1 cylinder from the crank to the cam, matching up all the dots on the crank gear and cam gear. Every time I rotate the crank, the cam gear makes a weird tick sound. When I had the cylinders off, I looked at the cam lobes and were fine, but not sure about the tappets. Hopefully it’s not a bent cam. What does a spalled cam sound like? I have a link to a video, of the noise I’m talking about. If you have any ideas of what it could be, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.
