- In this video we head to over to Marin Headlands for a perfect bicycle ride. With summer here and the riding season in full swing, I've been out riding and capturing footage whenever I can. This was a Saturday ride, and a fun adventure only a few miles away from San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. If you are short on time or visiting the area I recommend a bike ride to Marin Headlands. With a little determination in this video we discover a service road leading to the Coastal Trail and find a way to connect back to Wildcat Trail forming a fun loop with beautiful views with a mixture of terrain. It was a perfect day to say the least!

Your videos really make we want to visit California with a bike!
Marin is very bike friendly, and has a great cycling community. It's worth a visit sometime.
Well done! I know those roads. And that camera work, riding uphill on those steps with one hand, not easy. Ms. Cools, kind of a beast on the hills. Who knew? GD’s “truckin’,” the icing on the cake. Epic stuff
Love your dog another great video
Thank you, Donald! She's a great dog.
Loved this, great stuff!
Thanks burdphil!
I think your dog likes cycling as much as you guys. he stops for the street crossings the three of you really make a good team. keep the good video's coming.
Donald Vinsonhaler she’s a great cycling partner, always ready to go:))
Enjoyed that vid. I rode Marin Headlands back in 2013 and saw Bobcat and cub on the aptly named Bobcat Trail. Great area to ride even with the crowds. Keep em coming.
Thank you! You lucked out Mick to see an actual Bobcat sighting on Bobcat trail. Really cool! The Marin headlands is a treasure. We just scratched the surface, but there are trails and gravel roads leading all the way up to Muir Beach, Mt Tam, and beyond. It's just incredible!
Box Dog is the best bike shop in the city. Period. I absolutely love those guys, and they have always done right by me. Awesome video and awesome ride! Also, I did the same ride, but I went to Point Bonita and then into another gravel trail after. I LOVE this ride.
Thanks Robert. It's always fun to hear from a fellow adventurer, riding on the same roads and appreciating the same bike shops. Have a wonderful weekend!
Nice work you two! So much fun. I know you couldn't help yourself with the G.D. ;) Thanks for sharing your ramble with us. Peace, Plants and Good Riding. Best, Rob
I held off as long as could Rob, but I couldn't make another SF video without having the GD playing along. Quick story time, and it may help to explain my musical choices. In 1990, on New Years Eave, I went to a GD concert at the Oakland Coliseum with my mother. I guess this goes without saying, but I was fortunate to have really cool parents. I was 14 at the time. This was the greatest and most impressionable experiences of my life.
My weakness The Dog House (hot dogs), that is a nice looking climb with the bridge in the back ground. Outstanding views all along the trail, and great adventure out on the bike you and Miss Cool's had.
The downside to urban riding is all the treats that start calling you after a long bike ride.
The doggie is the coolest . I guess u only have cool ones with u again ah ... Your style of videos is 👍
Other beautiful video Henry! !!! All randonee !!!!
Thank you, Dario!
Such an epic climb up there. I rented a bike out there once when out for a ride just before sunset… had no idea where I was going, no map, before smartphones. I knew I wanted to go over the Golden Gate though. I saw that climb after & just started going for it. Got completely lost & linked up with 3 local racers who were on a training ride. Got my ass kicked trying to keep up on my rented bike, but they got me back to my hotel. Crazy memory. I haven’t seen this since. Thanks for the vid.
BTW, I live on the East Coast, and was out there for a 3-day, 2-night business trip, circa 2005/2006, so it was totally off the cuff moment.
I have a set of wheels on my 1999 Bruce Gordon Rock n Road that were hand built in 2000. The first set of wheels lasted about a year, but the hand built ones are still going strong 20 years later. I have toured quite a bit, but I have ridden mostly off road. I think that a well built wheel is the most important, but rim choice also important. I like vintage, but have had the best luck with hard anodized hoops. Great vids, thanks...
excellent vid man!
Thanks Charles! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
We love Mrs Cools
How could you not?
Dude. Stop talking about Fight Club! 😸 Love your vids!!
Thanks Joe!
Seriously! I’ve been binge watching your channel all day. I live in Glen Ellen and have been on a lot of the roads you’re showing. Please continue making these videos!
Right on! Thanks for the encouragement, Joe! I love Glenn Ellen, it's on my list of riding spots. Sonoma Mountain, Cavedale and Trinity are some of the nicest rides in Sonoma County. Being next to Annadel, Sugar Loaf, and Hood Mountain doesn't hurt either...
Henrywildeberry The condition of both Cavedale and Trinity are so bad after the fires of last year, they’re not that fun to ride anymore. We live in such a great place to ride, I wish we had better roads!
Awesome video! Those rims are the original Pacenti PL23s, right? Mine held up well, but I replaced them, as they were a PITA to mount Hetres, and only a slight improvement with Compass tires. If your rims are also 650b and you want them, let me know.
I believe these are the first generation PL23's but in 700c diameter. Box Dog has found two replacement options. Here's the thing, I just put down a deposit on a custom frame build which will use 650b wheel size! The frame won't be ready until sometime next year...So if you want to part ways with the Pacenti rims, let me know, because I can use them later.
that was an awesome video! i miss riding there, in and around san francisco. and the weather is such that you can wear black in full sunshine?!! no waaaay!! -- not here in the east: i rode to velo orange world headquarters the other day to watch the blue angels fly around for the naval graduation week festivities...and even though i was in white it was so hot i was still ready to burst into flames. by the way: does ms. cools use any other shoes for cycling? and why does mr wildeberry use such a crummy rear rack? and is he addicted to coca cola like me? i thought you two were cute...especially when ms. cools responds with a "definite yes" to the worth of the ride!! -- but then that dog makes an appearance -- adorable!!
Awesome! Thank you! It sounds like you also had a great day on the bike riding to the Velo Orange headquarters! That's what I love about riding a bike is taking yourself to places all under your own power. Ms. Cools only rides in Van's. She does not own any clip-less pedals, but she does have toe-clip cages on her Rando bike. I've asked her about this, and she likes riding in regular shoes, so when she gets off her bike it's easy to walk around.
Marin Headlands is one of my all time favorite places to ride a bicycle. Unfortunately, I'm usually there on weekends and it's pretty crowded. Harder to enjoy with the crowds...
If you can get out on a weekday it is much quieter especially when you get into areas further away from parking.
@@Henrywildeberry Yes. Sadly, I'm not in the area often (I live in the suburbs north of Seattle). I was down there a few years ago with my bike for a short vacation. The picture in my profile was taken on one of the overlooks there looking out over the bay towards San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The last time I was there, we just bombed down the back side of Hawk Hill and then headed back to the hotel up in Mill Valley. I hope to be back soon to explore the entire area a bit more. Thanks for the great videos. Lots of inspiration!
Cool ride. Miss the Bay Area. It looks like you ended up back in Berkeley. How did you get from the Marin Headlands back to Berkeley?
From the Headlands we rode over the GG to the Mission District were we hopped on the Bart to Berkeley.
what camera did you use while riding the Headlands?
In this video it was all Lumix g-85 footage. Since this video I have learned a little more (I'm no expert) about color grading and think I could make this footage look better now. Basically this is right out of the camera. I was thinking of making a video about my camera stuff. It's all very affordable stuff. No special bells or whistles.
Have you track the ride?
In a few days we will go to SF and we would like to make it. Regards
Yes, I have the route up on Strava (link above), but you may want to study the route and adjust to your liking. There were a few trails we had to hike as they are not rideable. All in all a great way to stay away from cars! Have a nice trip!
@@Henrywildeberry Great!!! It is part of the adventure. We hope that the weather will be with us and it will not rain. regards
Hey, Ms. Cools, did you run over the lizard sunning itself on the road at 15:08?
Finley Currie I remember exactly the moment this happened, thinking oh no this lizard is doomed. The good news is it was a close one, and the lizard survived!
Oops, removed the duplicate comment, sorry.
Ms Cools.. why is your bike so big... You can't reach the hoods.
The fit is definitely different from a modern endurance fit but that is the way was designed to be. The normal position for the hands for this type of fit and bike is the top of the bar, not the hoods. Moreover, most of the extra length in top tube is coming from the slacker seat tube angle, so as to cantilever the upper body over the bars. Ms. Cools sits back quite a bit, but that's what is taking the pressure off the hands. Her back is perfectly straight (if not in slight extension), which is probably why she can go all day like this.
Compared to your roads, cycling in the UK is like a third world country. Fed up with our potholes. Are you using a selfie stick on your bike, or a short handle on the camera?
