    Greetings from EU

    • @kiswahilikitukuzwe2547
      @kiswahilikitukuzwe2547 Před 4 lety +1

      Actually, *"mwana"* (son / daughter) of any age; unlike *"mtoto"* (child).
      To be gender specific you may say mwana wa kiume or mtoto wa kiume; and mwana wa kike or mtoto wa kike. just like you say mwanaume (man) and mwanamke (woman).
      Mwana wa mfalme ( prince / princess) regardless of age.

  • @waomawingu1972
    @waomawingu1972 Před 4 lety +1

    I just don't get it. If the plural are "ma" and "vi" doesn't that mean that they belong to a different noun class ("ji/ma" and "ki/vi" respectively)?... I thought the m/wa class only refers to nouns that have the wa plural, how so many categories? Aren't the family members supposed to be in the n class? This is so confusing

    • @swahilidarlanguageschool2043
      @swahilidarlanguageschool2043  Před 4 lety

      If you watch the whole video from the beginning to the end you will get the answer because it is well explained there.

    • @waomawingu1972
      @waomawingu1972 Před 4 lety +1

      @@swahilidarlanguageschool2043 Well i actually did. From what i understood, most living things are in the first class (taking w- for possessives both sg and pl: wangu, wako etc.), regardless if their plural is in vi- or in ma- or the same as the singular or otherwise (except family members + neighbour and friend which for the possessives take ya- for the sg and za- for the pl: zetu, yao and so on haha). I guess it also comes with time once you develop the "feels" of the language and what "sounds right".

    • @swahilidarlanguageschool2043
      @swahilidarlanguageschool2043  Před 4 lety

      Then you understood everything except this you wrote in your sentence " regardless if their plural is in vi- or in ma- or the same as the singular or otherwise" This is not true. Even this sentence is should be included especially when the noun is people or animal. What is not included is only if the noun is the non living things

    • @waomawingu1972
      @waomawingu1972 Před 4 lety +1

      Well that's cool then. You've got quite a channel here! It's great to see there are still guardians of such rare languages. I know Swahili is the most widely spoken indigenous lang in Africa, but lots of ppl i know haven't even heard about it (albeit knowing words like hakuna matata or simba hehe); that's why its nice to find courses like this even online with ppl keeping this musical language alive

  • @raquel-loveglobaloutreach47

    That is confusing. Why do animals do not have plural ?

    • @swahilidarlanguageschool2043
      @swahilidarlanguageschool2043  Před 5 lety +1

      Dear Jonas, Una is you have like you have a car = Una gari, but Wewe ni ......, means you are a ..... so Wewe ni mwalimu= You are a teacher, or if you want to say a sentence that locates someone into a place you would then say uko hapa which means you are here . So it is verb to have vs verb to be
