Monkeys including marmoset monkeys needs bite training and leash training before they are three months old. It is wise to start at 3 weeks old for best results. Never put a leash around its neck but around its waist. The leash maybe too big right now but it's only training for right now. Do this about 3 times a day 10 minutes each. Bite training you pinch their butt when they nibble or try to bite you even though it don't hurt you. You just lightly pinch them and tell them no by pointing your finger at them and say no. You must remember monkeys to get older and they do get strong and they will become stronger than you if they are easily angered. This will protect you and anyone that comes in their presence. Yes they are cute but they still have to be trained early just like you would a dog or a cat or a bird. It is also best to put a monkey diaper or you can get preemie diapers and cut a hole for the tail that way it's less mess. Your marmoset is very adorable. You may want to start now in training her. Marmoset monkeys are very intelligent and they're usually low maintenance monkeys. Best wishes to you and your monkey

For instance getting thier teeth removed, or getting them fixed, which really getting them fixed to calm them isnt that bad cuz its done to male dogs to calm them also... I DO NOT agree with getting thier teeth taken out though... Also seeing the way monkey owners dump them after they bite or hit puberty etc..., breaks my heart😥.... Not being mean or anything but i think anyone who wants to be a monkey owner should have to take prep courses and also be around grown monkeys to see what theyre to expect when thiers hits puberty. How do they do in a workplace environment? I was thinking of training about 27 of them to work an intermediate-sized tax office in downtown Wilmington, Delware. I think they'd be perfect to take up slack in the white collar sector, especially if they can't catch the cornavirus easily.

KAT I know I’m a year late lol. But actually I’ve had exotic pets my whole life. I live in TN and most “Farmer’s Veterinarians” are willing to come to your home and care for your animal at a reasonable price. As a matter of fact, if you want a marmoset, or any other exotic, and they are illegal in your state if you find a farm vet that will come to your house and care for your pet for cash payment it’s a good way to stay under the radar because they won’t report you for having it like an actual vet office would . Unless, of course, you have a lion or something like that in your apartment lol. Then they might report you. I found a baby deer on the side of the road with it’s dead mother that had just been hit by a car so I stopped and picked him up. I ended up keeping it , which is illegal in my state, so I had to do this. Eventually the deer got too big for my estate and so I gave it to a farmer that the vet knew might want it and now it lives on his farm. I go visit him every now and then. I also had a sugar glider back before they were legalized and I had to do the same with it.

Marmosets are usually born in twins and as such, should ideally have a companion. They are wonderful adorable little creatures but I do NOT recommend them as pets, as they are specialised and demanding and the only way I could personally condone owning one (two) is if they were rescues, as they are a favourite 'tool'of neuroscience and biochemical companys to experiment on. They are often bred specifically for that reason by vile humans. I have had 3 common marmys in the past (all rescue's) and speak from experience. Please do your research and save a 'condemned' monkey if you decide to own a pair and can give them a better life.

Oh, yeah, I was watching that show, Dr K Exotic Vet and a Marmoset died from a Herpes virus. They said they SHOULD NOT ever go out in public at all! That virus as well as many more are deadly to them and they catch them easily!! I just wanted you to know..I wonder if they have a vaccination for that? It's 100% fatal..
No vaccination for it. Must never kiss them or share food in a way that transmits bodily fluids. Typically lethal within 4 days and its a very painful death.
Ernie I had marmosets for years in SA and then again here in the UK although having them in SA was far ester as I had a huge outdoor play area for them. I also had two in SA a male and a female male was younger and the female used to carry him around when he was little. But this was a problem at bottle feeding time for him as she had decided this was her baby and would run and hid with him. But it was great too as she taught him all the things a mom would teach her baby. The only thing here in the UK was because he was indoors most of the time his sent marking was a problem for my hubby. I used to combat this by washing blankets daily. I had a pet Tamarin as well they got on very well. They had their own room with ropes and swings to compensate for the lack of the out door space. They do make great pets if you can get over the smell. Invest in a bottle of Fabreeze you will need it.
Very cute! You are very Loving with her👍 Make sure you supplement her with the special vitamins she needs, not only your food or she will get rickets and her legs will become deformed to the point where she won't be able to jump or even walk anymore.
Nice to hear a monkey owner talk about the “good”. You typically always see “I have a monkey and this is why you shouldn’t”. Seeing him peek out of your hair is pretty much ridiculously cute btw. I’m a grown man and I’m like, “D’awwww”” 🤣
Thanks for sharing your experience, and advise. All of the info was very helpful, especially letting people know that they don’t have to vaccinate their marmoset the way you would some other animals. I think that vaccines are over-used, and the general population is under-educated. The “more is better” theory is not one size fits all! Where I live rabbits ,guinea pigs ,hamsters,rats are exotic pets a check up for one rabbit cost around $300, cancer treatment was almost 10k

My aunt has photographs with all those animals. She always keeps Margarita's photo under the crystal of her big dresser. I never forget one day when my aunt gave Margarita a banana. Margarita tried it and then she extended the banana to me. I was supposed to share with her :3 . She wanted to offer me the banana. My aunt told me that I should not reject it because it was a special thing she was offering me, like a present. So, I took the piece of banana, pretended to give it a big bite and gave it back to Margarita. She was satisfied that I had tried some of it. And yes, those monkeys had feelings. My aunt used to talk to me about them. Sometimes they were sad, or they could be playing together, other times they could be mad at something. They acted like people.
Would you like to be created in a laboratory and be sold as a pet a few weeks later? Even if they were not taking them from the wild, that I doubt that never happens, by allowing people to have them as pets, sooner or later some sort of illegal trade might happen. These are very social creatures, the mother gives them milk till they are 5 - 10 weeks old. Then, after the weening, the father has to help introducing solid food and encouraging the baby to eat it. These marmosets have a family for a long time. They stay with their group till 2 years old if I don't remember wrong. The babies begin growing and eventually they help the mother and the father with the process of teaching and parenting other new babies. So, that means that the group or family is very close and they share the work of helping each other. The father is really important in teaching the babies marmosets. They are fundamental to their survival. Sometimes they even spend 50 % of their time helping the mother and carrying the baby. As you can see these are very social animals and they need their family. Their life will never be the same if they come from some random laboratory and are adopted by a human. If they are taken from the wild, the damage to the baby and the family is even worse. There is a very good video here in CZcams of some people that was trying to save a baby marmoset that was trapped under some rubble. When they managed to take it out, the mom was very close watching and waiting. She right away hugged the baby and smelled it. She was so happy !! :3 She sat there, hugging her baby and she almost looked like a person. She was shaking from the happiness, and looking at the people that gave her the baby back. So, animals have feelings too. I can't deny that the temptation is strong. They are super cute, I know. I just think that there is no need to make them suffer. We can't be their real mommy, even when we would like to be so. We can't do the job as well as their real monkey mom. I know we all would like to have something so cute in our house, I am not denying it :3, the truth is that it is just wrong and bad for those animals.

Oh, yeah, I was watching that show, Dr K Exotic Vet and a Marmoset died from a Herpes virus. They said they SHOULD NOT ever go out in public at all! That virus as well as many more are deadly to them and they catch them easily!! I just wanted you to know..I wonder if they have a vaccination for that? It's 100% fatal..
No vaccination for it. Must never kiss them or share food in a way that transmits bodily fluids. Typically lethal within 4 days and its a very painful death.

Ernie I had marmosets for years in SA and then again here in the UK although having them in SA was far ester as I had a huge outdoor play area for them. I also had two in SA a male and a female male was younger and the female used to carry him around when he was little. But this was a problem at bottle feeding time for him as she had decided this was her baby and would run and hid with him. But it was great too as she taught him all the things a mom would teach her baby. The only thing here in the UK was because he was indoors most of the time his sent marking was a problem for my hubby. I used to combat this by washing blankets daily. I had a pet Tamarin as well they got on very well. They had their own room with ropes and swings to compensate for the lack of the out door space. They do make great pets if you can get over the smell. Invest in a bottle of Fabreeze you will need it.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and advise. All of the info was very helpful, especially letting people know that they don’t have to vaccinate their marmoset the way you would some other animals. I think that vaccines are over-used, and the general population is under-educated. The “more is better” theory is not one size fits all!
