    Lay your lights along the very top of your metal window frames (portholes) facing up toward the ceiling. This allows the light to also reflect upward off the ceiling creating broader light effect. Deflect the light upward further by using tin foil strips. This prevents the lights from shining directly into peoples' eyes and creates indirect lighting.

    Did you ever stop to think that maybe that main bulkhead, most of which you removed, might just contribute to the structural integrity of the boat?

    • @wavesandwheels3295
      @wavesandwheels3295  Před 2 lety +2

      Sure did. I stopped. Thought. And then tore it out. Thank you for the concern!

    • @shawnlund
      @shawnlund Před 6 měsíci

      The bulkhead provides a significant amount of support/stiffness in the boat and without it she will be compromised. It was stupid to just cut it out of the boat with no plan or thought on how to reinforce the boat afterwards.

    I love what you've done with all that space! I just got a Catalina 25 last year and am on a river/lake system in Kentucky US. Really only gets used to take the kids out on right now but I want to have it a place to relax and enjoy good nights so I may have to enjoy some upgrades :P One question I do have, what cord do you power your VHF radio with?

  • @Superfandangoo
    @Superfandangoo Před 3 lety +2

    I like what your doing, I’m refitting a MacWester 27 here in the U.K. you’ve given me some ideas.
    A friendly warning on removing the bulkhead, where the chainplates and shrouds are pulling the mast down onto the deck the two bulkheads are transferring the stresses through to the hull spreading the load, when under sail the forces may crack the deck demasting her, it maybe worth looking at making up a metal angle framework in some way keeping the space you wanted. It’s something I’d be looking at.
    Please keep the vids coming just subbed to you 👍👍

      @wavesandwheels3295  Před 3 lety +2

      I appreciate the friendly warning Norty. You are right, I will take another good look at a way to reinforce the area while keeping the space. Yes I will keep the videos rolling and good luck with your MacWester!

    Very cool what you're doing! I own a 1980 Catalina 25 tall rig I'm just now refitting before the summer. The lights you have are a good idea. I've ordered a couple 30 foot strips to go around the boat. Definitely getting rid of that 2nd sink.
    Really liking your sink setup I've seen that on bigger Catalina's but where you have it I was thinking about adding some portable gas oven with a stove top to fit exactly where the original gimbal stove was. The idea of baking pizza or shepherds pie on voyages will make it feel more like home haha. That fridge you have is huge to man, I'm curious now what solar power can do with that situation. Can't stay docked all the time.
    I'll be posting some videos within the next couple months. Just painted the topside. Bottom next week. Alot of work is going into it hahaha. And a few months rent. It gets very humid hot where I live so I'm adding a 12k btu ac for hatchway, and a 3800 watt quiet Gen to power it with the options of powering the entire boat while charging batteries or a electric heater. May float generator off with dinghy and add an extension chord to prevent any fumes.
    Using the boat alot with camping so it should be worth it. We'll see. Any opinions?

    • @wavesandwheels3295
      @wavesandwheels3295  Před 3 lety

      Very cool, these Catalina 25's are so awesome, just need some work to update things like no second sink! Glad you agree its unnecessary! Haha. And I think your stove idea is terrific. It was quite a bit more work than I first imagined gutting the old fiberglass where to stove and icebox were so if you can just use the stove area, go for it!
      And sounds like an epic setup with the generator and dinghy! I'll add a bit of advice about the fridge. I got it since I planned to be docked a lot. But if I were you I would get a 12v cooler that will act as a cooler with ice in it, but can plug in to your battery and certainly run off solar. Alpicool is a brand I've had in mind, you can find it on Amazon. Good luck with the build!

    Do it with the lights mate. I'm sitting in the lounge of my Cornish (UK) cottage, and I have Christmas lights strung up across the ceiling.
    I hope that the through hulls have sea cocks so you don't take on any water when heeling.
    Great job on the boat, really great ideas.

    Thanks for the tour! Looking great! I would use command hooks for the lights plus will give you additional places to hang mesh netting for additional storage.
    Do you plan to sail or is your sailboat just a live aboard?

      @wavesandwheels3295  Před 3 lety +1

      Glad you like it. Command hooks and mesh netting. Of course! Thanks for the idea. I plan to sail her just nearby the coast and have her primarily as a condo on the water but she's seaworthy I will be sure to put up a video of her on the water at some point

  • @jimsinclair2862
    @jimsinclair2862 Před 3 lety +2

    I have strung those type of Christmas lights using a small drop of hot glue every 12" to 15" and it works great, don't even see it. It's also easy to remove without leaving marks or holes in you boat. Are you just using this as a liveaboard or do you plan to sail it? It will be interesting to see how well everything stays in place once you're healed over. Good work.

    That's a great boat! But it sure could use a woman's touch! I'm going to do fairy lights on my boat when I get one! Yours is a great starter boat.dont use duct tape. If you have a female friend who could come over and warm it up a little for you. I love mermaids so I'm going to go for a retro vintage mermaid vibe using teal and a sandy neutral brown wood finish. I want to pay cash so I'm just saving right now, but I really enjoy seeing others boats! What'd you name her?

    All I see is a small yacht, cool dude and some skateboard wheels in the first 15 seconds and imma insta sold 😂
    And so while Iam surfing the tubes and waiting to get my plate with 10 screws, finally removed from my clavicle in november….
    iam in the process of looking for an affordable boat in the 32‘ range myself. Clearly have no idea what iam really getting into,
    but life supposed to be fun , right 🙈
    Nice woodwork you have done there and I really like the popup entrance hatch on this boat!

    How much of it septic system. What are you do with The solid? And the liquid you let it drain at the bottom, not the smartest thing. Long-term dumping it like that it’s not good for marina. I’m not the biggest save the planet type of guy I would rethink that one🇺🇸

    • @wavesandwheels3295
      @wavesandwheels3295  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the thought I agree no one should dump waste in the harbor. I do not and my urinal is not for solids. For the solids I use a real toilet elsewhere. And as for peeing in the harbor, well when you go for a swim in the ocean do you pee in the water? Yeah, so do I.
