  • A detailed account of my trek to Everest Base Camp, Solukhumbu, Nepal.
To summarize, EBC trek consists of more than 130 kilometers of hiking in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal over a course of 12-15 days. One gets to see so some of the highest mountain peaks of the greater Himalaya range, including the 'eight thousanders' - Mount Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu; and others like Ama-Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtenga, Kusumkangaru et al.
The regular or 'classic' route to EBC misses out on the heavenly beauty of Gokyo lakes, the high of Gokyo Ri summit, and the thrills and dangers of crossing Cho La (Pass), all lying close by in the adjacent valley. Therefore, a prospective trekkers should seriously consider going via the Gokyo route, if possible.
This is the first out of four videos in this series, and includes a 2 minute preview of the entire journey.

Here is even better route, thinking outside the box: Namche - Tengboche - Phortse - Thore/Thare - Nha - Gokyo - (Cho La) - Dzongla - Lobuche - Gorak Shep - Dingpoche - Phortse - Namche etc.
Reasons: on more day of acclimatisation in Thore/Thare, going to upper kharkas to see snow leopards, rustic quiet lodges at Thore/Thare and Nha looking down at the low Dole - Machermo trail, getting to hike the amazing Pangpoche to Phortse High Scenic trail. Much less trakkers more impressive trails.

Yes, I wondered about it from the other side (Dole) - what would it be like to trek on the phortse-gokyo trail. Looked so isolated and remote.
I think this is also the option if one doesn't wish to cross cho la. Namche-Gokyo, come back via Phortse to Tengboche.
