Never underestimate a small act of kindness. Over 12 years ago I was standing outside my car waiting for my mom and I was crying. After my mom brought me back to my car I found a note that said “I saw you crying earlier and just wanted you to know I was praying for you. God bless you and I hope everything is all better! God is love. :)” I have kept this note in my wallet ever since as a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference ♥️

I also agree with James, but I think I know what Millie means. While grace accrues to the person who did the kindness, it feels like it's somewhat nullified by the annoyance of a person who has to listen to his/her bragging about what a good person they are. Still, I feel like the more people share their random acts of kindness, the more other people are encouraged to discover for themselves how good it feels.

Hi, I grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. 1969 Hurricane Camille bared down on my neighborhood and the family across the street from me started taking on flood waters. As a 6-year-old child I watched my grandfather, my father, my two uncles and another two neighbors link their arms to pull a family of 5 out of harm's way with winds at 150 miles per hour knocking them down into the flood waters and helping each other get back up to save them. I felt so proud, at 60 pounds pulling everyone into my arms. Not all heroes wear a cape, but I've surely watched them save lives! Love you guys!

I agree with and understand your moral view on the why and how of giving. I also feel that those who video their acts regardless of the reason draw attention to the need to help and care for one another. In some ways those who only do it for attention need props because it may not be something that comes easy. By getting the attention it could reinforce a positive view for them to continue to do so in the future. Maybe even turn them toward being the person who helps others just because.

To add onto this. Who cares if they are doing it for recognition? It still means the world to those that receive it.
I've seen people complain about a housing giveaway because it was mostly done for good PR for a company. The homeless family that got the house didn't care why it was being done. They were just happy they were no longer living on the streets.

@@cindyknudson2715 Don't lie to the bloke.
There is nothing illegal about suddenly having an extra $1000. (Especially considering we already know the innocent nature of the situation.) As suspicious as that may seem to someone, there is no real fear of legal repercussion. The worst is you could be questioned. The end.
Also, the business typically has security cameras, (not counting the other measures in order to protect itself from cash going missing) so there is no need for a 3rd party video, thus the point is moot.
In fact, the only way that the usage of filming is for legal purposes in all of this would be for the business' sake in the case that someone did steal money from them, and that's clearly not what the scenario is here.

I'm a breast cancer survivor and when I lost my hair from chemo my best friend shaved her head to. It's real emotional when someone loves and supports you so much that they would do such a drastic change to their appearance to be in solidarity with you. There were also so many other acts of kindness I got from people that I never would expect. It's really hard to put into words how much those things meant to me.

I am widowed & live alone. On January 3rd of this year, I was very sick. I thought I had Omnicrom. I called my coworker who lives 10 minutes from me. She came & took me to the ER. Turns out, I had something called Empyema, which is a type of pneumonia that grew btwn my lung & ribcage in the pleural cavity & collapsed the lower half of my left lung. The thoracic surgeon & the infectious disease doctor said if I had waited another day or two, I would have died. If my friend/coworker had not come to my aid w/o hesitation, I would not be here. I am so very grateful; no words can truly express my feelings. My closest family member is 2hrs away.

When I was a kid (1969) my father fell in love with sailing and decided to share his new love with his family. So he took all 5 of us kids and my mother out for a 3 day trip down the coast of California. Unfortunately everyone except my mom and myself got sea sick and so my mother who knew absolutely nothing about sailing at that time (she learned later) was stuck driving the boat. There was some communication errors between my parents as my father started using sailing terms my mother did not know and we ran into a coral reef near Santa Cruz CA about 100 yards from shore. The boat was sinking. Suddenly, we had this wave of beach goers and surfers coming from shore out to our boat. Next thing I know there is a human chain going from shore to the boat and these wonderful people got all 7 of us off the boat and back to shore. Then they tied a rope (a line for you sailors out there) to the bow of the boat and took the other end back to shore and everyone on that beach start pulling on that rope to get the boat as close to shore as they could. My father had rented that boat from a local marina and I do not know what they charged him for the accident, but if he had had to replace the entire boat, I assure you it would have been far more expensive. That was 53 years ago (I was 5 at the time) and I still remember that day.

The point of shaving your hair is to show support, and that you'll stand next to them no matter what. That you'll go bald with them and look weird not because you look good or bad, but because it means "I stand in solidarity with you, and I'll go through the weird looks from others with you. I'll support you when you feel too sick and are vomiting all night from the chemo, and I'll grow my hair back with you only once you've recovered because I love you" these are just a few of the meanings behind it. I've been my whole life with someone close having cancer, so this is one of the most selfless things you can do. To give up your looks alongside your significant other, not because it looks better or worse, but because that person is more important than the hair on your own head.

Millie. I used to agree. It’s better to do it quietly. And that is still fine. But this is the world we live in now. And kindness is contagious. So maybe some kids see it. Feel good and think maybe I want to do that instead of recording myself dancing all day. Plus people like you can use your platform to spread it around. Make money of it to give money or something

There are reasons for taping an act of kindness. My dog is an agility dog. During the pandemic dog training places could hold their classes, or do trials to make money (like so many businesses). Those of us who could bought auction items, made cash donations, some peoples made donations for an owner/dog team earn a title (that’s how my dog earned two trick titles), etc. Most collections and auctions were done in secret to surprise the club, and the donated money was given to the board of the club. We couldn’t gather to watch (again, pandemic) but we wanted to see the gift given, so one of the people taped the gift giving. When posted, they weren’t posted on public sites. I imagine that $1,000 gift was not given by one or two people in the car.

i think the intention is what matters. if you record to show off how cool and generous you are, thats not as good (still better than not doing it). if the intention is to share the awareness and potentially others to follow their examples, it is more effective to have it recorded and shared online

I understand what you’re saying regarding a person recording his or her good deeds but I don’t think the majority are doing it for selfish reasons. I think they are motivating others to do the same, they are in fact helping people (video or not). Even if it’s a CZcamsr bing monetized they will earn more money to help others in need. I’d much rather watch these videos rather than the horrific news that’s on everyday.

I think staging it isn’t as good. But recording it is favorable. It spreads it around and inspires people and if it just inspires one person that makes a chain reaction!

I definitely agree with the whole doing "kindness" for clout thing being a bit selfish, but I do recognize each other's arguments. Is it really an act of kindness if you're getting something out of it? On the other hand...the person in need winds up getting some help so in the end both sides benefit. I guess I'm just more of a fan of people who do true random acts without seeking anything from it other than making sure the other person is ok. They don't even have to be anything huge like giving people a ton of money. You can do something very small to help someone out which can show you're a decent person. It's not the size of the act...it's choosing to act in the first place.

It's 2022 you will be filmed whether it's a kind act or not. Between the camera's and phones unless you're alone with someone it's probably going to get recorded. That in no way should stop acts of kindness.

  • @marieneu264

I don’t know, it depends on intention, which is hard to measure. If you’re doing an act of kindness and challenging others to do the same, then I think it’s a great thing. Look at the ALS challenge that went completely viral and made so much money for ALS several years ago.

  • @vindigregorio6697

I have to agree with Millie about the act not being "pure" if you're doing it to post or get a pat on the back.
I also see Beesley's point about that still being better than not doing anything at all.. But it's not really the same.

I love random acts of kindness videos. My only disagreement is with the ones who gave a kitten to their teacher. Caring for a rescue pet is an act of kindness. Giving a pet to someone else without their prior consent is cruelty. If the woman wanted another kitten you have deprived her of choosing the right match for herself. If she was getting too old to continue caring for a pet much longer you are causing her harm. Pets are a long term commitment that should never be forced on others.
