This really just speaks to CZcams, Google, and modern tech companies in general. They promise so much and then quietly back out or change without any real effort to consider educating the user base or assisting. I think this shows in the way creators talk about the problems they see and the silence. It's a broader problem that no one is really incentivized to fix. I agree with a lot of what you say, it feels like, at times, it missed a big problem. At the same time, I don't have to say "Thanks CZcams!" every time they do something they say they will in order to expect better for all my juice data.
Well since everything is more or less streamed now a days. Companies do need to either make a profit or fail. As far as another crying pos on the thread I will say it again. If you don't like it don't use it. There are overhead costs you think data and storage comes off a tree or out of the air? There are costs to everything.

CZcams is a huge part of my viewing life and I really appreciate everything you do and the other channels I enjoy and to get it all for free and just a couple of ads I am more than happy for to do it, 4k really isn't important to me but good content does

@@IFD2 eh, for the bandwidth it takes for a 4k video, the amount of users using 4k is too low. And the ones that are probably have red, so they won't notice any issue. Really if you want to support a channel, red is significantly better than watching ads.

CZcams is terrible and you shouldn't make excuses for them. They put ads on accounts that aren't monetized. They constantly change the terms of monetization.

Just think about it for a minute, how much do you think it costs to run the largest repository of video on Earth? A service that let's ANYONE upload as much video content as they want FOR FREE, with an estimated combined length of 1,918,440 years (in 2019).
Sure CZcams's probably got the money to carry on funding it, but they do not owe you anything, they are a business not a charity, the fact that such a service even exists **FOR. FREE** is a miracle
Then don't use CZcams? You might not be monetized but you still have access to a free platform where you can watch unlimited amount of videos and upload whatever amount of videos you want completely free of charge. CZcams can simple do what SoundCloud does and charge you for artist accounts where you have to pay to upload more content while still having ads but they choose not to. This is a free platform for viewers and creators and they are trying to keep this alive while still making a profit all the while supporting millions of content creators. Stop complaining and leave the platform if you don't like it. The world isn't entitled to bend backwards for you

I've had everyone in my house on a CZcams Premium family plan for years, it's pretty sweet. No commercials, creators still get money from it, and it's also a music service.
Me too, youtube music is aweet aswell! Its totally worth it to get YT Premium, i dont know why people scoff at it...
Creators get MUCH more money from Premium views. Also I think CZcams Music is just as good as Spotify if not better and works pretty much the exact same way.
(I wouldn't be surprised if they pay artists more than Spotify does because CZcams is pretty good at that and Spotify has had the opposite headlines.)

I'm not at all surprised about the 4K pay wall. In fact, I was surprised they kept 4K free for as long as they have. Servers and server storage space are _not_ cheap to have, bandwidth is _not_ cheap - and 4K pushes both of those things to a pretty high level. It was never going to be sustainable keeping 4K free. But it was nice of them to do so for a while, to give us a taste of the better quality 4K can offer. Luckily for me I don't consume 4K content, my phone can't cope with switching videos to 4K resolution as the video starts lagging out until I switch down to 1440p. And I stick to 1440p on my computer because that's the max resolution of my monitor, and I personally really can't tell any improvement or difference of 4K over just playing the video at 1440p. Now if they increased the bitrate of the 4K video playback (which they really should do once it goes behind the paywall), _then_ I might be able to see an improvement, but not whilst they're still using the same bitrate for 4K as they are for 1440p.
Matt makes a very important case here with the new tag system and yes, YT needs to fix this.
OMG, I went through the comment section of a video yesterday and every reply to a comment was just spam and bots.
Oh let's not talk about the time when YT showed that comments had replied and there was nothing in them - creator's issue nope - Louis Rossman showed that it was a YT system problem.
They should invest and fix this please.

Lol. The lack of understanding as to why Google literally cannot fix this is astounding.
This problem has become obnoxious. I can't even comment on certain channels anymore, because after 30 seconds of commenting, I get a spam reply and more often than not, CZcamss algorithm dumps my comment as spam itself and I don't see myself continue to feed input where it isn't going to be seen and discussions aren't going to take place. It's an annoying waste of time for a lot of users having these bots running around attacking channels.
CZcams's lazy effort to deal with this has predictably not worked. And I won't hold my breath things is going to improve any time soon.

The only problem I have with it is that if you have a 4K display, the quality dip when playing in lower res is very noticeable, since it's at a non-native resolution.
CZcams reminds me a lot of working for amazon kind of, just constant stupid changes that never benefit the people doing the actual work
I watch this on my iPhone 6, using safari, CZcams defaults to 360p, and I have to manually set it to 720p every I care about resolution, rarely I do.
Mat is spot on with the 4K not mattering thing. For one, the majority of people use phones to warch CZcams and phones cap out at 1440p. Even if a phone has a 4K display, people keep their YT apps on data saver mode to avoid buffering or using up too much data. Plus, a LOT of 4K content on YT is just upscaled 1080p. CZcams locking 4K behind a pay wall won't even make them that much money because the people watching niche cinematic content probably already have premium and the rest use adblock to avoid ads. Oh and the bitrate sucks.
I watch YT on a 4k monitor and my phone has unlimited data so the 4k pay wall would actually be a big deal to me and many like me.
@@antx24 1 in 1000? 1 in 10000? And, you skimmed past the upscale and bitrate parts... Even if you are part of the few that have 4K displays, locally stored content and gaming is where you'll get most of your actual 4K from anyway.

The price of server hosting gets exponentially cheaper over time. The price per gigabyte of stored video goes down every year, the computational power of servers goes up every year. CZcams isn't making this move because they're going to go broke, they're doing this because they're a monopoly. When you have no competition, you can increase your prices (increased advertising) and decrease the quality of your product.
so what's about Rossman's take on ads: 'if you watched every ad on my every video you brought in under a dollar' and wasted hours and days doing so?
It all sounds well and good until you consider the fact that Google makes more than enough money selling our data
I've been fighting the adult site bots for streamers for over a year now. It's crazy how many streamers I try to educate who think I'm trying to scam them by advocating they learn about a program that can help moderate.
It's important that CZcams implements better moderation at the channel level so creators don't have to rely on outside programs.
At best these handles are mediation methods.

CZcams is worth the Premium price in my experience. It allows me downloads for when I'm offline , allowed me to cancel Spotify because of CZcams music, No ads.

This, tbh. Spotify is only good with Premium, as well. Free Spotify doesn't let you restart a track with Android Auto, and then you have an ad (1 of the 5 total ads they have) every 2 tracks.
Sadly CZcams music doesn't have most of the music and artists I listen too so it's basically worthless to me.
I will never justify paying for no ads so of course I use adblocker (youtube revanced)
i kind of agree with the 4k thing. Sucks that youtube might take away something we've had for years but people watching in anything higher than 1080p make up such a tiny percentage of users(even outside of youtube)

I pay for premium and 90% of the time I'm watching/ listening on my phone. When I have the time to watch on a 4k screen I prefer to play games or watch a movie. During the pandemic CZcams was defaulting to lower quality in most countries and most people didn't notice or care, so I doubt this will have any meaningful impact.
The thing I always bring up which is weird is that CZcams didn't always have this weird level of spam bots this is literally a recentlyish developed situation it wasn't like this a few years ago what changed that allowed all these spam bots.

I've been a CZcams premium user since it was CZcams Red largely because it is 100% the main content ecosystem I interact with and I have not regularly seen an ad in years.

I am on the phone. 480p even looks fine. If it wasn't paywalled too, I would switch off the display for many videos.
Feels like the only way to get rid of the spam bots is a phone # verification, sounds really eh because no one wants to put their phone # but in reality it will bring down the spam bots
I don’t think that will go over very well. However, displaying some sort of verification of people do verify their Google account with a phone number (which I did when I created my account back in the late 200X years).
From 2016- mid 2022 I used an app called CZcams Vanced that's now discontinued that let me watch videos with no ads for free. Google shut it down though because they don't want a premium CZcams service that you can get for free somewhere else.
5:49 Even when I'm on one of my PCs, which both have 1440p monitors, I always choose the 4k option. Helps block out the blockies. At least in my head....
my issue with youtube ads is the amount of ads we get, its too much.
Some of the most harmfull/scam content on youtube are the ads. Until that changes i will use an ad blocker. I would happily get yt premium if it was'nt so expensive, i cant justify that cost every month
I'd be much more forgiving of CZcams in the 4k conversation if they didn't just have several record breaking years of profit.
Also I've had premium for years anyway. It was always about the ads. Never watched them on TV with a DVR not on CZcams either once they put ads on my smart tv. Worst thing about Twitch is them playing you ads just to see if you like the content, and you lose all the content streamed during the ad. And there's no Premium on Twitch - you turn it off for 2 streamers by subbing and it's more than CZcams to just see these 2 for however few hours they are on.
I agree. It makes sense and it’s very reasonable to charge for 4K streaming. Even Netflix charges a premium for 4K streaming. 4K isn’t available on Netflix’s first two tiers of streaming options, yet people are upset that CZcams might be doing it. I think it definitely makes sense to charge for that extra bandwidth/resolution.

The only thing about 4K is that I watch a lot of CZcams on my TV. It’s a 70” 4K TV and when you go down to 1080/1440 it’s a very noticeable drop in quality.
The problem with the 4K pullback is the optics. If CZcams hadn’t had 4K as a free option and instead only added it to premium it would have been a better look. It’s always better to entice new customers with new features then gate-keep features provided originally for free.
My big issue is the mid roll ads that cut in in the middle of points, words, statements, etc…, the other things are annoying but part of business
I don't mind paying for YT premium because I watch it more than Netflix, and so the only ads I have to watch are the embedded sponsored segments. I pay to hide ads on all the services. I hate ads.
I have a 1080p monitor, and 4K looks dramatically better on my monitor because of CZcamss compression algorithm. You don't need a 4K screen to take advantage of 4K resolution because 4K in CZcams land is actually just 1080p upscaled.

I would watch CZcams in 720p if they dropped the mid-video ads. It is just annoying, on the beginning of the video it’s ok but in the middle of the video it sucks.

i watch 4k videos on my 1080p monitor because the detail is just not there for many videos in 1080p, you'd think i won't see the difference on my 1080p monitor but it's VERY noticeable... get your 1080p video on point youtube!
I agree with the argument on 4k on CZcams. Most people almost never change the quality up, and the built in settings default to highest res for the client's screen res. I just hope they don't pay wall anything lower than 4k.
I get these all the time I report them when I get them but it's actually suprising how quickly they come back.
I’ve been on CZcams since launch and it is a huge part of my life. I’ve been a premium subscriber since they announced it, I wanted to support this platform and I also hate ads. But I feel like when I’m getting 40 hours of content a week, the premium price isn’t too steep.

Exactly! We watch a LOT of CZcams content in our house and Premium is worth it for us. It's also what we all use for our music service. We don't deal with ads and the creators still get paid, it's win-win for us.
We canceled Netflix and picked up CZcams premium. No regrets.

I've gotten those spam messages so much lately the first one I got was on the Austin Evans channel so annoying. I honestly have never used 4k resolution so I can't say it will bother me much.
The fact that CZcams will hold back 4K and 8k content behind a content isn’t unreasonable as I as a content creator have to pay extra for equipment that can edit 4K video at 60fps as well as spending more money to store my content as it takes it waaaaaayy more storage space.
I had premium for 2 months and it wasn't all that honestly, I just liked that there wasn't anymore commercials/ads. I'd say go for it unless youtube is your television, then pay for it.
The problem with verified checks is that a lot of people have never seen a comment from a verified account that wasn’t a pinned comment from the channel, and people could very easily assume the check means it’s like an old sticky forum post from back in the day
This happened to me once I knew it was a scam but played along to it changed the name on the account of the commenter to a different youtuber
Naturally I get a CZcams Premium ad while I’m watching the segment on the 4k.
To be honest. I don't really ever change the resolution of a video I'm watching on CZcams. The only time I change it is when CZcams is being a dumbest and decides I need to watch a video 240p and even when I do change it I change it to 1080p, even if 4k is available.
I actually meet Austin irl, refused to give me an autograph because he was "Too Busy". Fame has overwhelmed him.

Our equivalent of BBC in the Netherlands has a vod service. 720p is free, but if u wanna watch the news in 1080p u have to pay like 2 or 3 euros a month. I dont hate it, And you loose ads when u pay so thats great.

Why introduce 4k and 8k to all, is like getting somebody to use drugs and than taking drugs away.
If they up the bit rate a bit, than yes it would be ok.
I also think content is copied and same sometimes, so if they find a way to clear part of the videos that are same duplicates .....
it would fix and free up space and bandwidth....

Just so you know when you choose 4k It highers the bitrate and now it chooses the av1 codec if it can.
Its the inverse, youtube chooses AV1 for anything 1080p and under, 4K is in VP9. Reason is simple, VP9 have hardware acceleration but AV1 doesnt, unless you have something like those Intel Ark GPU, so cpu decoding a 4k video from a hard codec will heat up your computer and also you'll drop frames, so they stick to 1080p and under, so that your cpu doesn't have too much load

Honestly, since I use my phone and a tablet to watch CZcams, I don't really notice any difference between 480p and another higher. I dont see the point while using my current devices.
I'm not paying for 8 different streaming services. Back when everything was on Netflix, I was fine with paying $15 a month. I'm not paying for Prime Video, Netflix, YT Premium, Hulu, HBO Max, etc, etc. Too much corporate greed, it's the same thing that killed cable. Frankly, if your business model pisses off your users and they adblock your site, that's a business model problem, not the user's problem.
Never asked anyone to go out of their way to make content so AdBlock stays on.

I can totally understand your points of view. but I can also get the idea that if CZcams does do this and puts 4K or 4K60 under a paywall. they should raise the payment for creators because even the channel like mine. that's not big enough for ad revenue that does take a hit on my channel because all my videos are in 4k or 4K60 HDR and I feel that's hurting my channel. without having any financial gains involved it takes away from my channel I guess the old thing goes money talks. if I was going to get paid more but I have to lose 4K in the process. I'll be more entitled to be okay with it especially knowing how much money I'll be making in the future.
I have always watched in 1080p (tops) (mainly on a TV sometimes on a phone) / 720p (on my phones) (and if the wifi that I am connected to isn't that good) / 480p (on my phone when using my mobile data)
I've been paying for CZcams premium since it was launched in the UK is so worse that you get CZcams music included
I personally don't use 4k. I use 1440p, because skipping around videos is much quicker than 4k and 1440p looks much closer to actual 1080p.
It pees me off even more than CZcams still bloody giving me TikTok ads.

I’ll stay with my ad blockers, not just because of CZcams bug because of various websites that I use that is bothersome. And I live close to the Google company and have friends that work there and money is not an issue as people would believe. A lot of if now is due to for them battling with employees to come back to the office when the job they do doesn’t require 5-6 days a week to be in the office that end up costing gas, toll bridge that is currently $7 1-way and so much time in the congested Frey ways that have no space for more lanes. Google has issues with so many failed projects when a lot were enjoyed by people but they have no idea of how to make a lasting impression. Google search is probably what they will be know for.
I've remembered long ago in geocities at first it was not clear about the bandwidth for your site. USB was not so common and affordable like know and in that time I've started to use some big files 2mb or more floppy disk was not big enough and CD burners was not that popular either or cheap so I use my site like my personal cloud untill they limit the bandwidth for big files and then just disappear
I pretty much watch CZcams at 1080 even though I have a 4K monitor. But I do like movies at 4K!
It may seem like a faff until it is sorted but you could even just add a little footnote in the title, end or just say along with the "like / subscribe" blurb saying "look for the checkmark". Some people still won't get it but it may try and keep a few scammers at bay.
The youtube locking 4k behind premium is not a problem at all barely anyone watches in 4k

I agree with you guys 100 percent! I see nothing wrong with CZcams generating some profit in a way that doesn't interfere with the ability to have the same reach. The ads suck, but good content creators do fairly well from what I hear. I think it's a great balance of making a small profit without screwing people over.
If CZcams increased the bitrate of 1080p it probably wouldn't even be an issue, I watch on a 4K TV so I definitely notice now, but even when I was watching on a 1080p screen a couple of years ago, I still streamed in 4K because 1080p looked worse, on mobile I don't care, because it's a tiny screen but on a TV you notice easily.
