Father Mark, I also have a vegetable garden. I call it my St. Joseph Garden because I placed a statue of St. Joseph next to it. I have 2 long rows of raised beds, and have been SO amazed at the wonders of God's creation while watching the various plants grow. Let some of them bolt and flower, because the flowers attract bees and other pollinators. There are so many things to learn from gardening, like which plants to grow next to others to attract good insects and reduce bad ones. Also, there's "crop rotation" so next season you can plant things that benefit from the soil's nutrients, based on what was planted before. It's SOOOO awesome, and I know your heart will be lifted by watching the flowers attract bees and butterflies, and your tummy will be filled with all the rich healthy food! May God continue to bless you and your little garden ABUNDANTLY!
🌟 Father Mark is showing us a valuable lesson from the past, for the not so distant future. Here in America, during WW2, everything was rationed out. Each household was given a booklet of ration stamps or tickets, and you could only buy the allotted amount on your ration card. They rationed meat, vegetables, milk, paper, gas, oil and tires. This was because the military was using the bulk of the resources.
Consequently this prompted people to grow "Victory Gardens." These gardens were grown so that families could feed themselves while under the strict rationing rules. Without the gardens, people would have gone hungry. Thank you Father Mark
My Mother remembers having to eat lots of canned SPAM during WW2. She said they only had fake butter. It was basically lard with yellow food coloring.

Great! Taking advantage of the long summer days in the north. I note that Ottawa had approximately 15 and 1/2 hours of sunlight on June 21st; here in south Florida we had only about 13 hours and 50 minutes! I love fresh radishes! God bless you Father Mark!

God is good to us! If we only paid attention? Growing your own food, is one way to celebrate our connection to our Lord. Remember however, you have a good place on earth to do this...imagine all those stories in the Bible about how hard people had to work to scratch out a living on this Earth. Count your blessings! 🙂
That's a great garden. Have you considered getting some metal arches to put in there so your viny plants can grow upright? You'll be able to pack a whole lot of more vegetables in there. If you get some metal arches and let your tomatoes eggplants cucumbers squash grow up the arches. You can probably make your own

Nice garden. I procrastinated on raised garden construction materials and the rabbits have revealed their preferences on my ground level plantings. Thankfully, they seem to leave squash alone (so far). Next year I hope to find suitable construction materials for 24" deep raised beds so I can try Daikon Radishes again. And thank you for your daily postings. Some time I'd like to hear your thoughts on my vintage 1958 Confraternity Douay Bible and 1942 Prayer Missal that my parents gave to me and my wife. The Our Father says "forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors" , but there is so much packed into that little leather-bound missal.
Love it!! Totally grew super fast - wow!! I don't know what growing zone you're in, but you could plant crops now for a winter harvest too. Lettuce and brassicas like the cold, peas too. Once the cold comes and your produce is mostly mature size, they can keep fresh in the ground. Elliot Coleman (from Maine) grows year round in nothing more than a cold frame. He's got a youtube and written some books about it. Prayers for you and your ministry, Fr. Mark!
My neighbor has his garden on tiers to keep the bunnies out. He has added chicken wire around the unit for extra security. Well, the bunnies hop higher now and they access the all you can eat buffet.

We have been in the mid90s here in Pennsylvania. We haven't had rain in a long time. This is very unusual weather for our area. I hope you have air conditioning in your home. 😊
We started growing our own food several years ago. Nothing better than eating your own home growen. Grow potatoes they’re the best. And roasted radishes try them.Mmm mmm good.
