Sir, I took your advice and purchased a Basketmaker by Geoffrey Ellis (Also bought a Quena). The instrument is gorgeous and has the most mellow and calming sound. I have previously had very bad luck finding a quality woodwind instruments for playing what I call "ancestoral melodies." You have earned my trust and my admiration.

I have been a student of Scott for going on 2 years now via Skype and I have attended his workshops at both Zion Canyon Native Flute School in UT, and at the Santa Fe Flute School in Santa Fe, NM. I am looking forward to his next Native American Flute worksop (Yes Scott, I have decided to come!) in April and the Ancestral Spirits Anasazi Flute worksop in June.
Scott is a very thorough and extremely positive and patient instructor. Having absolutely no previous musical experience in my life, he has helped and guided me down a very rewarding path with these magical instruments. -Mark Nixon

Very good description on how to play and enjoy who know ,want and play these types of flutes. For me its such a great joy to listen to watch you play. Not a flute player, much better just to listen, watch and learn from the unknown about playing these flutes. Thank you. Just listen to it on how sounds.

I just received my Ellis Anasazi flute! Cannot wait to learn more from your site and videos! I can't believe the tone that comes out of these flutes, my first time trying the flute and it already makes a beautiful sound!

I can't afford to buy an Anasazi flute, so I'm making one out of PVC. The first song I'm going to figure out how to play on it is _Lazy Afternoons_ from Kingdom Hearts II.

I've made a couple out of PVC and now I can get decent tones out of them, but getting the notes that I want has been difficult. Hoping to graduate to a real end-blown flute this Spring.

The Anasazi flute found in archaeological context did not have a notch and bicel. Due to its characteristics, the Anasazi flute belongs to the "oblique flutes" which sound without peak or notch, like some folklore flutes from the Middle East.

Very interesting video, Scott. I was born and raised in Japan and played shakuhachi for many years. But of course, the Anasazi flute is not a shakuhachi, and neither is it any other flute, although those with a background of playing these other flutes might try to modify it it or make it in the direction of other flutes. The minor key tuning of this particular specimen of Anasazi flute that you played is also interesting, as most videos of the Anasazi flute that are up on CZcams definitely have a major key orientation. Are there different tunings and scales on different Anasazi flutes?

I just started playing the Anasazi Flute today. After playing the standard NAF, the Anasazi is VERY difficult. I know with practice I will get better. I know the proper breathing and positioning techniques but is there anything that I am missing? I sometimes get half a note to come through but I mostly here the air and a squeaking sound. Someone, please help. Thank you.

Mr. August, I am zero out of two for a good brand of Quena flute. The first, I bought one with a cow-bone end and it cracked within days. I assumed this was a fluke and returned it for another and it also cracked. The second doesn't play well at all. Help!

ellisflutes.com You need to contact him. Don't figure that if you don't see anything on the website he doesn't have it. Good makers don't have time to work on their websites. They're too busy making flutes.
