i worked at DAF for several years, excellent truck brand.
DAF stood for : van Doornes Aanhanger Fabriek, aanhanger is Dutch for trailer.
They started making trailers at first.
The 95 series was one of the truck series that had the Leyland Daf badge for UK Market. Sadly no mention of when Daf merged with Leyland
2800 was popular in the UK as a prime mover , I visited the factory around 4 years ago, very enlightening, DAF was and is very innovative!.
Fantastic trucks to drive! I currently drive the 5th DAF in my career, and I still enjoy driving them each day! Proud to be a DAF driver.
I enjoy listening to Matty narrating truck history.
I remember these well as my father always ran DAF trucks, we had 11 CF's a 95xf and a 105xf
no mention of there tie up with leyland trucks
First DAF 95s were a nightmare with all the recalls. Kept me in overtime
I passed my test in a DAF, it went all Christmas Tree dashboard in the rain during my warm-up drive with my instructor.
Calmed down just in time for me to pass.
I'm pretty sure that Kenworth uses (or used) the DAF XF cab for their K500 heavy duty truck, and Kenworth & Peterbilt might be using the CF or LF cab for their medium duty cab-over trucks.
They do
210/220 in the states is a daf lf
Thats what I call Dutch pride, nice video, greetings from the Netherlands
pride Wim
@@ElmerJFudd-oi9kj Thanks for correcting me, I changed it.
Somthing somthing jan de rooy
@@ocallaghan3865 Bart van Soest also got a nice one.
What would you think Americans would think of the DAF A107 and DAF IRTEX
It’s sad that regulations severely limited cabovers here in America!!!! You only find them for refuse or certain construction models...
Mitchell.......What are you talking about? There are no such regulations. When the length-limit was abolished in 1982; the COE became functionally obsolete.
Actually, regulations DID cause cabovers to fall from popularity in the U.S.A. Relaxed length and weight limits basically killed them in most applications and that's fine with me! If you've ever driven, or even ridden in one, you'll completely understand. I HAVE driven AND ridden in a few of those old bone shakers and I don't miss them at all!
@@MikeBrown-ii3pt Yeah. Mike? What you just described? Is called "deregulation". A concept emphasized by the Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982........
@@craniostomy I think you took my comment the wrong way. I know exactly what it's called. I was around the industry when it happened, and I'm still in it today. As I said, I don't miss those old bone shakers at all. You can also call them kidney busters, back breakers or whatever you want.
@@MikeBrown-ii3pt You're right. I was around back then too. My old man bought a brand new K100 in August of '81. I wanted him to spring for the aerodyne. But he wouldn't budge.
Another great video, I’ve really enjoyed them all. Can you do one, on the history of Crane Carrier Corp? They were built in my home town for years, until the company was sold, and then the new owners moved production out of state.
definitely a gorgeous truck ;D
There is nothing like a DAF ....drove one in 2005 and haven't seen another brand compare in comfort and reliability... engine and clutch maintenance is very low like the parts built to last... Daf keeps impressing me everyday
Hi loved your film on daf the daf engine was based on the leyland 680 engine which they licenced off leyland in 1986 daf and leyland joined together to make leyland daf trucks. The 95 cab was shared with two other truck firms pegaso Spain and seddon atkinson UK which at one time was owned by international.
Britain couldn't make after Thatcher got into power....instead of being confrontal with the unions.they..,should have sent the political stirrers to Siberia.
Also shared the cab and engine with Tatra Phoenix
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_158_Phoenix
Again a nice video, about a very solid brand wich I think is always a bit understemated !
Thanks god for DAF XF. I drive 2018 XF 510 SSC and love it.
DAF were laughed at when they made the first CVT transmission ...now they are everywhere...
Sweet
Also another fun fact about DAF, they also helped develop APCs for the Dutch and Belgian armed forces. They were also powered by DAFs diesel engines. I forgot what the models of the APCs are so if anyone knows them please add.
Please explain how the hybrid truck works. Thanks.
"we can certainly suspect a new additiong to the DAF line to debut any day now"
And almost exactly one year later: the new XG and XG+
If I were to drive one of those DAF trucks, I'd definitely drive one of the hybrids, but I wouldn't have an all-electric model
DAF 2800 DKTD was their best model with easy maintenance
Kenworth mexico have a truck like a daf but with a cummins engine ..named PX 6 and in class 8 trucks is a MX 13 a DAF engine..
Its a rebadged Daf running under paccar’s peterbilt and kenworth models as the 210/220 and they are built in the mexico plant
ok is good very well thank you
The Medium Daf trucks from the 70 were a Saviem/Renault design
Actually it was a cooperative design between Magirus Deutz, Volvo, Renault Saviem and DAF.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_of_Four
But when DAF bought Leyland trucks they dropped out of the club and continued with Leyland midsize cabs.
@@fliteshare Wasn't it the other way around ? Leyland bough't DAF ?
@@fredschriks8554 No..Daf bought Leyland trucks as they were basically bankrupt
Please do a history of Pacific trucks
Did not know that paccar bough Daff.
MUITO LINDO AMEI
Please make a video for Tata truck please
I am surprised that Paccar doesn't sell the DAF truck line here in the US
Elizabeth Cherry That’s quite a truck, Chuck. The trucks look like something out of a cartoon.
Elizabeth Cherry I’ll bet the 16 series was replaced by the 17 and the 18 series.
Paccar uses the Daf LF here in the us rebranded as the Peterbilt 210/220 and I think KW version is a K 210/220
I loved my Daf CF I used to have.
But god would it kill them to update the damn cab? The interior and cab shell is straight from the 95 series with small add ons.
still looks good not dated
Thanks for this video of our Dutch pride. One correction I have to make with the name. DAF stands for: Dooremalen (name) Aanhanger (translated Trailer, not automotiv) Fabriek (Factory). But great video, thanks.
The 615 was iconic in Africa as well as the 1160.No mention of both.
Or the 612
Your forgetting the adventures of jan de rooy along with
The DAF IRTEX
The DAF TMU
The DAF A107
Also don't forget about ginaf
🙂👏👍👍👍🤝
DAF XF looks like the Scania Cabover, especially the "smile" grille.
Anyone else notice what appeared to be a gas stove in the cab at czcams.com/video/ZHKHeKE37fA/video.html
yaa, that was great. I wonder if it was propane or liquid gas.
That was the supercontinental cab designed for use on the run to the Middle East in the 70’s , PIE bought a load of them , Volvo and Ford both offered kitchen packs for their trucks aswell
troouck
Daf started as a trailer company
Very interesting but I was very disappointed to hear that in a show entitled history of Daf trucks there was no mention of Leyland Daf at all
Having worked for Leyland Daf for years in the UK it was widely known that the first engine used by DAF was a Leyland and during the 1980’s Leyland DAF came about combining both respective companies products
Obviously this wasn’t to last forever but the 45 which was originally the Leyland roadrunner still has a family resemblance to the original Leyland product
During that period Leyland Sherpa vans were taken on and developed into two main versions
The 200 series ( lighter weight)
400 series ( heavy weight)
The truck models were as all other products badged Leyland Daf
I remember 2100 series all the way up to 3600 series
The engines were so good
We re- engined London Routemaster doubledecker buses
It appears that instead of proper research
You’ve got a load of photos of DAF trucks
But not looked any further
Great to watch, unless you want to hear the real story,
Tell me more
@@mrstr8pipes you don't know about the fact that daf first used Leyland engine's, and a and great deal Leyland engineering?
@@stevetaylor5933 yeah I did, I thought you had a bit more spicy stuff we didn't know about. Plus the real reason the 95 took off was the Cummins engine that was Soo reliable. The paccar stuff nowadays is complete rubbish. Put me off buying 1. Kettles is what a dad is now.
@@stevetaylor5933 They had a licence to build these Leyland engines, but later on developed them to DAF engines.
@@CiclistaBoigiDromido have you ever worked on both Leyland and daf engines?
Ga trutten schudden met mijn pientere pookje! Laters!❤❤

@@ElmerJFudd-oi9kj Ok!
@@ElmerJFudd-oi9kj Bijna goed, de 850cc luchtgekoelde boxermotor uit de 44. Zowel als truck en trekker verkrijgbaar destijds. Heb zelf een "truck" gehad. Grappig, stond ook op het kentekenbewijs!
Leyland DAF???
3300 is you live in a 3rd world country you know how good is that truck until today 2020
you have forgotten that DAF was an axle manufacturer, in fact DAF means Dutch Axles Factory, they have not started with trucks as you say, also their logo represent an axle from a sideview
Helemaal fout! AANHANGER
