    Oh -- that iridescent glass with the thistle would be called "Carnival Glass" here in the States anyway -- it was most popular in the 1920's -- as you said in the video. It's a shame that it is broken *yet* the elements of the design, and color of the glass bit that you have are still wonderful! Love the necklace -- Gail is such a skilled artisan!

    • @20greeneyes20
      @20greeneyes20 Před 4 lety +2

      Yes and the color is called marigold.
      It's called carnival Glass because they were giving away at carnivals as prizes. It comes in purple, green, red orange not sure of other colors.
      Very collectable. I have some as well.
      Some can be very valuable.

    Hello Ladies,
    The thing with the knob at 27:44 is a "Hat stand hook" the difference between it and coat hooks is the single screw attachment on the back.
    The weird metal shape at 28:06 is a "screw cutting guage" used in Machine shops to grind screw cutting tools and drill bits to the correct shape.
    The thingy at 28:24 is the rewind handle from a "string chalk-line" I'm pretty sure it was made by the Stanley tool Co, but the design has been widely reproduced. Chalk-lines were often used for marking straight lines to set up "Digs" in mines back in the day.
    Someone else may have already named the parts but just in case I thought I'd chime in.

    The scenery that greeted you when you exited that adit must have taken your breath away. You live around some very beautiful countryside. And more importantly, I don’t know where or how you learned your video skills, but your skills are incredibly impressive. You kept your camera centered on the horizon, there are no jerking motions, no aiming at the ground then the sky. You stay focused on what you want us to see. Not many you tubers do that. Between your camera skills, your soft beautiful accent, and the impeccable manners and personal bearing of you and your Mother, you two are rapidly becoming my favorite CZcamsrs. Please don’t think that I’m being creepy, I’m retired and living out my life on YT, sorry if I sound like a wierdo.

    I absolutely love watching your videos. I was very nervous when you ventured into the mine. My Grandfather was a mine foreman here in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. There are so many abandoned mines near where we live, that he made me and my siblings and cousins promise him that, no matter what, we would never go underground. Cave-ins and toxic gases killed quite a few miners in our area before my time. He spent many years working underground, and his biggest fear was that someone he loved would be hurt or killed in one of those mines. I could hear my Grandfather's voice in my head as I was watching you, and I even said out loud, "Oh no Alex, don't go in there!" Please be safe, you're such a ray of sunshine and you and your Mom are a joy to watch :)

    I would love it if you did a series of tutorial videos on jewellery making. Most especially the casting aspect - many moons ago I bought some small jewellery crucibles at a car boot sale for a mere pittance and would love to utilise them to cast my own talisman in some recycled sterling silver!
    Also, have you ever thought about buying a metal detector pin pointer to help with your searches? You can buy a GP pointer super cheap on eBay which works really good for the low price. It would be ideal for searching the nooks and crannies in the mine entrance you showed looking for secreted hidden coins etc. It would also be ideal for searching the bottle dumps too! Thanks for making such awesome videos!

      @@witchynerdhermit could be if I had not seen the word "mine" I would not have advised caution.
      Copper, of course, grows beautiful patina when exposed to the elements.
      I know little about reclamation in the UK but here in the US I have seen water flowing from old mines so acidic truck tires will melt. The older mines being some of our worse offenders.

    • @ClashixTV
      @ClashixTV Před 4 lety +1

      such acid pools are definitely not so easily accessible or even existing in the uk. if there was an acid pool in the uk that could melt tyres it would have a huge fence around it with barb wire and guard dogs and signs and secuity guards and hawks with lazer beams attached to their head guarding it.

    Absolutely love what you guys do! My dads old house had a victorian dump inthe field where he kept the cows. Loved digging for bottles! I think people abroad don't realise that whilst some of the dumps and mines did contain hazardous substances the length of time they've been shut has denatured most of it. You both demonstrate our norther common sense approach to exploring which has kept all of us alive and (mostly) out of mischief since we were toddlers. We used to explore the pot holes near malham, the buttertubs and any other cave like (or mine like) structure with minimal supervision and never came a cropper. Keep up the good work and keep these explorations coming! Love them!

    The orange bit of glass is a part of carnival glass, give glass items as prizes in carnivals years back . Look it up in detail amazing and you will probably find out which families would use which designs

    A mosaic artist would love digging in that bottle dump.... lots of pretty shards.

    Oh love think of the beautiful garden stones you can make using the bits & pieces you were finding. Thank you so much for sharing. My mother & aunt recently went to sea glass beach in California & brought home so much she made a huge mural of the ocean & sky with seagulls & sand in an old picture frame right on the glass.

    Hi Muddy Angels, lovely video of a very interesting place, you may have been cold but your videos always warm my heart.
    OMG Alex, you are so brave going down that creepy old mine tunnel, if I went in there, I would need a flame thrower and Gandalf !!
    I think that blue metal thingy that Alex trod on was used to join two strap ends, possibly part of the harness on a Pit-pony, I think the metal rings joined the part of a harness where three strap ends meet on the pony's cheek. (Just guessing)
    Once again, I was totally mesmerised watching Gail making such beautiful jewellery.
    Something else I found interesting, was seeing that brick-lined water course. It looks to me that there was a reason for them to straighten and control the water flow, this would suggest there may have been a watermill not far from there. The water would have probably driven massive hammers to crush the ore before it was sent to be processed into lead.
    Stay safe Ladies and please wear gloves. Big warm hugs for you both. Louie. xx

    Another really enjoyable video ladies. So nice to see Mum and daughter having fun together, doing what they love. I always get a little nervous when I see you driving on the "wrong side" of the road ! Anyway, I feel like I am exploring right along with you! Just love your adventures. Can't wait til the next one.
