At the end of July 2019 I was delighted to welcome fellow vlogger Karen Nisbet to the boat, visiting all the way from New Zealand.
Karen lives and tours NZ in her caravan, filming her travels on the channel "Travelling K". She was in the UK for several weeks, touring the sights, visiting other vloggers and meeting viewers.
Have a look at Karen's channel - and how she's coping with caravanning on Britain's crowded roads - at / travellingk

Her very own Karenvan! I'll get me coat!😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Those swans were just bullying - they can go much faster than a Narrowboat! :)
Definitely the narrowboats are for relaxing, no rush, no noise, etc. This one MUST TO DO BEFORE I DIE everybody should do
are they not noisy? ive only ever seen them on this channel and not in real life but its a pretty audible put-put isnt it
It's easy to tell during the interview that you used to work in TV journalism. Very professional looking.
Was going to say exactly the same!
There is not the same evolution of this channel as is typical of most CZcams channels, it started out high quality. I expect that's because the learning happened long ago in new broadcasts.
I came across 'Cruising the Cut" During lockdown in April. Here in Australia, I knew nothing about the UK canal Narrowboats. I have watched many of your Vlogs over the months. Then the links to other 'Boaters' mentioned on here. I have tried to work out why I am so drawn to Narrowboats. I watched Karen's Vlog after this one. At the front of your boat she said this, "I'm just finding this so peaceful. After the stress of driving here, towing the caravan. Then just quietly puttering along the canal. What a contrast. " Thank you Karen now I get why I am drawn to Narrowboats. After the huge stresses I lived through last year. Watching the Vlogs on 'Cruising the Cut' is so peaceful. Thank you David.
I just had to correct two spelling mistakes.
100%, it's just life in the slow lane with a never ending change of view and its very tempting to start working on the math. Flying the dog halfway around the world may be a tad expensive but where I go so does he and Dex would be awe of canal life, the constantly changing vista would engrose him I'm sure.
I mentioned it on Karen's video, but gotta say it again.
You two would make for a cute couple!
People who have the guts to just go off and explore are my kind of people.
I know that not everyone is in a position to do so, but so many poor sods are so trapped by their own insecurities that they don't really know how to live.
I admire both of you. x
David, that was very gentlemanly of you to let her take the tiller. She did quite a good job... I bet she makes a wicked cheese sandwich too!
I honestly can't get enough of your videos been watching them for so long and just wanted to thank you 😊 I'm a single mum with my wonderful son who has autism and I often feel stuck in this rent trap. Your videos give me inspiration to keep saving and go for this lifestyle that I know we would benefit so much from ❤️
Glad they help! I don't know much about autism but I can imagine it would help, yes
@@CruisingTheCut thank you it's different for everyone but for my son he just loves being in his own little bubble and loves peace and quiet. Very active and would love to help with everything 😊 you are a gem
What a lovely lady, did well there Karen.
Meanwhile all hail our new Swan Overlords....
Thanks for the recommendation, we have subscribed to Karen's Channel.
With outfit manouvering that - TravellingK should have no probs with British roads, apart from the lack of respect other motorists have for vehicles towing !!!
Great Vlog, and thank you for introducing another talented Vlogger - guess who I will be subscribing to shortly :)
Lovely. How can there be simultaneously so much quiet beauty in the world and so much heart-wrenching madness.
Lovely girl, lovely video
Sorry for being 'rude' , but I think her smile is really attractive.
I can hear the swans now: "How dare you sir!"
Ah thank you for introducing us to another great CZcamsr... I will be checking out her channel for sure.
This production is tremendous. As always love your superb productions.
And thank you Karen.
What a Lovely Lady.
How splendid of you to show Karen around! It was fun listening to her perspective on narrowboating! She did see it as slow! Thank you also for saying welcome to the vlog, makes us feel like we've made it home as we settle in for the story.
Awesome so glad she enjoyed the trip.
Nice one. Good to hear from Karen. But if UK driving is stressful, she should try Paris, Rome or Bangalore.
Or Mexico City. :)
This vlog was the happiest I've seen her...i know she really liked you , see admitted it in the comments on her vlog about your boat.. shame...you could have had fun together!!!.❤️🇳🇿
She had a look of joy steering the boat!
Hi, what a lovely calm video, scenery beautiful. Thank you very much
I have loved every guest you've had and found some truly lovely channels that way and I'm very pleased to meet Traveling K. She has a lovely soft voice and seems like a really pleasant person!
The effect attained by imaging a reflection of the boat in the lens of Karen's sunglasses was a nice touch David.
One of my nephews was executive officer on a few vessels of the Royal Australian Navy and once sent me a fantastic image of a vibrant sunset reflected by the cover glass on a signal Lamp otherwise known as an 'Aldis' lamp.
Apparently the ship was quite close to the Antarctic at the time and combined with crystal clear air in the region the image created a stunning effect like a portal to another, cleaner, healthier world.
You look so good together! Very sweet. Love from Norway!
Slow and relaxing.... exactly why I watch. It’s nice when company is aboard! Happy cruising 🇨🇦👍
That was a great interview! Isn’t it wonderful that one can meet so many wonderful people when sharing videos and vlogs.
She is so sweet. Thanks for a very nice vlog.
What we need ....Its the peaceful....
Another great vlog... canals should be an environment enriching project for every country, irrespective of whether it makes commercial sense any more. We truely are blessed by our herritage in this country.
LOL... those swans were stubborn as heck
I'm so happy to see two of my favourite vloggers connected! I've just watched K's video and now yours. Thank you for opening up to her and show yourself in a different light. I enjoyed both videos very much.
Been following Karens NZ vlogs for years now. Great to see her from a new perspective!
Love this episode🙋🏻👍🏻
It looks like I am not the only one binge watching your videos, nearly caught up and loving every minute. A big thank-you for your hard work. You are the only youtuber I talk about and now lots of friends are watching you too. :)
The boss particularily loved your last april fool episode as they want their boat washing!!
Thank you! And thanks for getting others to watch too ;-)
Brilliant, you and Karen together in the same video. It’s little surprises like this that make life worth living. Really enjoyed your’s and Karen’s videos of your visit together. Thank you for sharing your time together with all of us. Cheers 🍻. Stay safe both of you.
Another pleasant guest - you do have some wonderful people popping by every now and then.
What a fortuitous bit of luck you happend to be there at the right time :-)
Possibly fate?
I’m a subscriber to Karen’s channel for a year now.
She’s awesome. Great vlog
Kiwis are everywhere...excellent.
I’ve been watching Karen for a while now, really enjoy watching these sort of video’s 🌈
Great to see Karen enjoyed her visit and I bet it was a bit interesting driving in the UK. I being from The US have traveled to the UK twice and found the experience very exciting to say the least, and I didn't have a caravan behind me...LOL. Glad to see you did take her out to spend some time on the water. And yes I will check her channel out. Thanks for Vlog as always...Vic
Thoroughly enjoy your vlogs, also great to see another Kiwi enjoying life.
Good show. Generous of both of you. Lots of joy.
well now, that was a pleasant visit from an awfully nice girl! she's got more intestinal fortitude than I hauling a caravan around over there! scared the crap out of me driving over there let alone hauling a trailer. I did like her impression on the whole canal boat life...beautiful mode of travel if you're not in a hurry, but that's what's most appealing i'd have to say, slow down, life is far too short! Another good one Sir!
I don’t have a caravan or a canal boat, not sure why I’m watching it but I did enjoy it 👍
Karen is such a lovely person, her vlogs are great and very entertaining, I recommend people pay a visit to her channel, she deserves a lot of success.
Great video David, nice to have a different point of view on narrow boating.
Hi All,
I find it interesting watching all you VLOG’s being taken aboard to experience your life on a narrowboat. It is interesting watching all your VLOG’s on life on a narrowboat, it is now something I have on my bucket list to do. It is interesting to see the way you all start off your VLOG’s.

Hi Guys, I hope your well!
Floating Our Boat - Fran & Richard
No intro, they just get straight into it.
My interest is in the life lead on a narrowboat, many thanks for going to the effort of taking us all along with you, as without your efforts we would be sorely deprived. Keep up the great work and happy cruising.
Regards
A Fan from Australia
Well done sir. Showing the side of our canals. To her caravan
You are so informative and entertaining! I love all of your vlogs.
Again great video, life can be peaceful and relaxing can't it .!!!!
David she is so smiley Trav k is smashing.
I very much appreciate that you're doing an interview of a small home/traveling home person. I'd love to see more of these if you find the time and people (as long as you don't lose all the other wonderful vids you make). This is awesome, I love it!
Wonderful video! Watching Karen enjoy the canal was so much fun. Thank you for the link to her channel. (p.s. Hope you get to go to NZ! )
Awesome vedio
Very sensible, calmly, simple, peaceful conversation with a pretty lady and cute also.
You 2 would make a cute couple.
Nice to have another person's point of view.
Another great video! The more I watch of this channel, the more envious I become!
Great idea for a vlog Dave, loved it.
Thank you, David and Karen, from an English Man living in Auckland watching an Aucklander touring UK in a caravan and enjoying a lovely peaceful day on the Cut, which is one of the things I miss most.
D., you are a continued "hoot"! Great young lady who isn't afraid of adventure:) She reminds me of our oldest daughter who is almost 26 now. She too has traveled a lot for her ripe young age. So glad you got to show Karen the "ropes". Blessings:)
She loves to giggle doesn't she, a joyful lass😊
Yep, annoying.
Welcome to the UK Karen, enjoy your stay.
That was great. I’ve started watching Karen’s videos now. After her trip to the Lake District a relaxing few hours was just what she needed! 😊
What a wonderful experience. If I ever get to the UK, I MUST take a narrowboat cruise! :D
Canal Time! love it,
Thanks for this....I have now completed Karen's videos since seeing this !!
Brilliant episode
That was lovely. Good on ya!
Great video I live in North Carolina and have watched all of your videos keep up the awesome work 🚢
Lovely to meet Karen, and to see you in your natural habitat- mooring the cut ;)
Ahh, The Swan at Fradley I remember a New Years Eve in the 60's when our conga dance nearly ended up in the canal. Nice video.
Thanks for the introduction to Karen! NZ is one of my favorite places in the world, so I have a feeling I am going to really enjoy tagging along with her on her adventures.
I really enjoy your vlogs. Your country is beautiful. Here in California, we only have a couple of months of green vegetation all around.
Cali is an amazing place but damn man, I need a bit of rain now and again :)
Great video. My camper is a lot similar to her's. Except my bathroom is across my kitchen. I'm glad she enjoyed the boat ride. It's a lot slower life of a boat. Owning both I enjoy the boat much more @ least in the US. Bc in summer if I get hot I can just jump in water & float away w/peace.
Enjoy your trip to the UK,
Chris from Missouri
The collab I never knew was gonna happen, but am so happy it did!
Lovely video, really interesting to see a caravanner steer a canal boat..hope to see you in NZ driving a caravan .
With all of canals you have traveled, some of the canals, with so many green plants and trees, remind me of the Jungle River ride at Disneyland, minus the elephants and hippos. Always relaxing. Your friend K seems to enjoy her touring around with her travel trailer and I did live in one for about a year, some time ago. It worked well for me and my travel trailer was 13 feet long. When by yourself, it works, but with another person, that one was too small. My opinion is if you have all of the necessities you need, you have it all. If I were to ever get a canal boat, my guess is something around 25-30 feet would be more than enough to work well for me. I like your set up with ample solar panels. You could say it is minimalist living but as long as you have all of the basics, you are good to go... Cheers!
You should maybe have guests more often Young Dave. Karen seems like a 'well-adjusted-Kiwi' + Smashing personality :-)
Thanks for another entertaining episode , David. Lovely to hear from Karen. 😃👏👏👏👏
My daughter is the reverse princess of reversing all vehicles including our family home .....cool calm collected ....... great vlog as usual ....
What a terrific lifestyle boats or caravañs
Awww.....nice to see you host a Kiwi. It's always amusing to hear a Kiwi accent as I've lived away from NZ (UK and Canada) for 5 years. A nice bit of cross marketing for you you both!
CruisingTheChicks is more like it..... actually very pleasant video, thanks!
I shall change the channel name immediately!
Lovely people on a lovely day.
1:34 - I can't get over how large that camper is and only on 1 axel. North American campers (that i've seen) have the wheels on the back third. very interesting (to me anyway) :)
The first time I tried Scampi was at the Swan and the Coventry was my first ever narrow boat cruise too. I have a clay kiln fired mug from the gift shop that must be over a quarter of a century old by now. So you picked a good place to give Karen her first experience of Narrow boating, Fradley is, in my opinion,. a great place for new experiences.
She is totally correct, she will come as one person to meet her followers in 1000's and say HI, its a nice personal touch.Great thing to do, connect not just in E-net, but in a real world. The caravan life is not a narrow-boat life, in caravan you can go anywhere, in a boat not so much. But narrow boat is a life style in it self, totally different thing that can NOT be compare to RV life or VAN life. The whole V-vlogs is new, and its going in all different directions in it self.TH
Love your stuff but the comparison with Karen's lifestyle were super interesting - good stuff
What a gentleman you are Captain, lovely gesture allowing this young lady to pilot your home along the canal. I wondered if you showed her the golden rivet, traditionally the last of the many thousands used to construct a vessel. But of course your boat is welded, oh well 😔
you go on the canal in formation with the swans... that makes you a disney princess isnt it?
Wow, that really was a huge family of swans. I think I counted 7 babies. Well done to that mum and dad. (They pair for life, for anyone who doesn’t know) I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a big clutch (?) of young but pretty grown up cygnets, they were almost full size. Oh and yes, you two really did make a lovely couple.
Thank you for introducing us to TravellingK I've been watching her videos since you shared the link here.
Sweet i watched her video the other day and this was in my feed
That was great seeing you both.As I watch both your vlogs.Think she's brave traveling on her own.As I am a Kiwi also, its great to watch her.
Always fancied an Airstream myself, but my God, the price of them!
Awwww... those swans are soooo cute!
LOL under the façade of every cute swan lies a manic, psychopathic killer just awaiting its opportunity! Apart from that, yes they are very cute.
