    I grew up in a musical family. My dad, mom and myself bought a 4104 bus many years ago and tried to convert it. Unfortunately, the bus had too many mechanical issues and we ended up selling it off and never finished it. Since then, I've always wished for my own bus. I just LOVE these videos!!! Shuttle busses are a perfect size too. I sooo enjoy how the two of you work together as a team in every way!!! Couples usually argue a lot, but you two don't. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I highly recommend if you want advice on any stage of your build that you do a consult with Savannah and Drew. We are lucky enough to live near them and were able to do an in person one as well as a bus tour that helped a ton in our decision making process. They are both genuine and positive energy exuding individuals and the world needs more people like them. It was a pleasure to meet you. Text if you ever need anything. Looking forward to the rest of the build videos. 👍

    You guys tire me out just watching what you need to do. We had a shuttle bus we were going to make into a home but ended up selling it when we realized not only the time but cost to make it into the home we wanted. We admire your dedication.

  • @agentofficerthomasa.porter107

    It would of been great Drew & Savannah, if Max Fan made one that would fit the Tent your working in :-) that would take a lot of air out & through the region of experience to have better venting to work in. As much time has passed since this aired you have come a long way in discovery & invention of get'n through. I agree with the a/c unit taking it out. Those hoses could leak at anytime & cause grave damage to the interrior & the motor strain. The new a/c units made to run from the Solar Panels through Lithium Batteries are amazing today. The networking in idea's & past experiences shared are what we are all here to gift forward. always, Tommy :-)

  • @DeliberateNRandom
    @DeliberateNRandom Před 2 lety +1

    What if you put unistrut along the length of the roof and then put your cross braces from side to side? You'd have less fabrication and more support. You could put spacers and drill out the channels.

    • @prepparig144
      @prepparig144 Před 2 lety +1

      You talking Unistrut on the top outside from front to back? I just bought a shuttle with the u joists and that's what I plan to do.

    • @DeliberateNRandom
      @DeliberateNRandom Před 2 lety

      @@prepparig144 Ya. It would create less weight per square inch on the roof. Like laying your body across the roof versus standing on it, so all the weight isn't on that one rib. Then you can adjust the cross bars or add more later when the panelling is up inside.

    Wow, I am in total awe with your build and how you solved the roof rack puzzle. I am converting a shuttle bus that is really similar to yours after losing my home to a wildfire, and I was considering flat panels to get around installing a roof rack. Any thoughts about this or pros and cons you considered? Many thanks for the inspiration, it's been a real help for me to keep going. Thanks!

    Loving watching your series. Question on SOLAR A/C. You're now in June - presumably still in the dessert. How is the A/C working out? I'm in FLA and had just about given up on the idea of solar for A/C. Admittedly your cooling at night is prolly going to be much less than here, but still quite curious. Again - thanks for making and sharing these stories.

    Did you use Henry's on the air dam on front? Have shuttle bus rv myself. Need to redo roof also. Air dam is chalking and dripping in windshield. Thinking of using Henry's and eterina bond tape on seams.

    • @OurWayToRoam
      @OurWayToRoam  Před 3 lety +4

      We have not tackled those front seams by the windshield yet. That area tends to get so much wear that the chalking is pretty common. Henry’s might work well. I’d scrape off whatever is there, use some caulk and then Henry’s!

  • @prepparig144

    I just bought a shuttle and just checked.... u joists. Ugghhh!!! Do you feel you needed the "C" washer on inside of roof after you put the pieces of curved metal on top?

  • @denahout
    @denahout Před rokem

    Why do you have to have a roof rack for the solar panels instead of installing them directly onto the roof?

  • @ericg4042
    @ericg4042 Před rokem

    We have just purchased a 2014 Ford E450 (Eldorado built body) very similar to yours. In ours, the seller said she had had someone remove the rear AC unit for her but after they did, the front AC no longer worked either. I've done some crawling around underneath and found a few cut hoses. The condensers are still present behind that grill on the side.
    I'm curious as to whether your front AC worked after you removed the rear unit.

  • @konorrockhill6191

    What did you use to plug the ac hose? Only finding copper caps?

  • @sozfromoz
    @sozfromoz Před 3 lety

    Greetings from Australia, I am wondering about the strength of the internal rib that you have used to bolt your rack down, my concern is that this rib is fairly thin and may be prone to slightly crushing when the bolt is tightened which would result in the rack becoming loose over time, perhaps consult with your ‘Kevin’ on this. The reason for my comment is that I’ve come across this crushing/loosening happening in similar situations.

    I wouldn't beat yourself up so much about your "mistakes" or more correctly miscalculations. It wouldn't be a true build without bumps and these rigs surprising us a bit. And you rushed to seal the roof because you felt like the leak you found at that time was a high priority problem. Then you had to double back to a step you would have done earlier and you figured it out and it was all good in the end. ☺️

    • @OurWayToRoam
      @OurWayToRoam  Před 3 lety +1

      Exactly! Sealing the roof was rushed because of the rain so we didn't think it through. All is well now and a lesson was learned!

  • @jimsteele9261

    Does it make sense to use something like tropicool when most of the roof is going to be covered with solar panels or deckboards? Seems like ordinary white paint would be good enough.
