Mcafee had the biggest sports podcast prior to ESPN. He left a 4 year, $120 million dollar deal with Fan Duel. What McAfee got was the ESPN money, the ability to use clips and maintain full control over his show.

He had to run the show out of that $120mil. Any guests/co hosts that were paid were paid out of that $120mil. ESPN takes care of all the expenses now, plus he gets to call games and have conversations he never would have been able to. I completely understand what signing with Disney means for him/the show but it makes more sense when you look at it from a business owners pov. It all depends on what the business owner (Pat) wants out of it

Adam is right about people not knowing who he was, I’m an avid listener of show and none of my coworkers (besides some youngers) watched or really knew of pat mcafee until his ESPN debut now they are watchers of the show and would most likely follow him if he left… he was introduced to a whole new audience (non internet crowd) and I believe that is why he did the deal,as well as a broader more high profile network of guest for the show… he’s openly stated similar things on his show

    • @huntuhhh

His audience 10000% knew this would happen and warned him but he thought it was political hysteria now he is seeing the world for what it is… interestingly I feel I’ve noticed a shift in his politics especially since becoming a father and being exposed to varied thinkers like rodgers..the blow back he received for just talking to some people or about them woke him up.. they don’t talk much politics on the show on purpose which is appreciated.. BUT he does make a lot of side comments and inferences as jokes that are a bit right leaning or at least in the sphere of conversation..
