- Hey y’all. We made our own Platform king bed using Kallax shelves from IKEA. We saved hundreds of dollars. You can make this bed with $200!! It took about 3 hours with feedings and taking care of a 3 month old in between lol If we can do it, you can do it! I was the head architect and husband was my contractor 😆
This is an awesome DIY if you’re looking for a bed with height and storage. Please like and comment if you find this valuable. Stay tuned for our whole room tour.
🚨Edit: We went back and removed the brackets. We used the same wooden slats from the frame and screwed them vertically from the side storage bins to bottom storage. We also moved the bottom storage over and added a two storage bin to the side so that it would be 6 total bins at bottom of the bed and the mattress would not hang over.
In total you would need:
(2) 4 storage shelves for the sides
(1) 4 storage shelf for the bottom
(1) 2 storage shelf for the bottom which will be added with the bottom (4 storage) to make a total of 6.
-Wooden slats from Home Depot or lowes
-screws should only be long enough to screw through shelf and slat, so 2 - 2 /12 inches.
-Our mattress is linked in our LTK
We have had the bed for months now and love it! Still sturdy. You can treat it just as you would treat any other bed.

If you had a single cube storage add on aswell, the mattress wouldn't have to hang over. Me and the wife will be building ours soon. Good job by the way.
Love this!! Thank you, we will be building ours tonight 😊
Y'all did that!!!! I love it!!
Thank you Rae ❤️
You could center the matras, so that it sticks out evenly on all sides, that way it hangs a little less on the back then it’s now (and usually there’s more weight at the bottom with getting in/out bed, then there is at the head side as there’s a wall there so you won’t be sitting there often 🙂) that’s what we did, maybe it helps
This is genius, thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!

I'm thinking of doing this bed but my question is how much weight can it hold? i have 98 kg and my husband 120kg... will that hold us??
Great Job family!!!! Love the build! Is it comfortable?! You can put a low topper on it if it’s too hard! Enjoy! 🙏🏽💕🙏🏽💕
Yes it’s comfortable! We have a pretty good mattress!
Thank you for showing the whole process 🙏 what a gorgeous baby BTW so cuteeee! I miss my baby so small xxx
5 storage both side will be perfect
How has it held up
It’s holding up great! Even with our 10 month old crawling into bed with us in the weeee hours of the night!
This was beautiful to watch I have two questions. What size are brackets did you use? What size are the screws?
Hey I just edited the caption, check it out
The description
What camera do you guys use ?
We use our iPhone! Going to show our gear in an upcoming Short!
How much did everything cost together
$210
My husband and I are about 500 pounds combined. Plus the 40 pound toddler…. So let’s round up to 550. You think this will hold us?
I definitely think it’s just as sturdy as any bed you would purchase ❤️❤️
Or put the short end at the top of the bed cause that’s not sat on🤔
