Your phone has 2 settings ( Local Battery and Common Battery). Local Battery powers the phone from a switchboard and Common Battery is powered by the phones 2 D cell batteries. It will easier when you see his videos.

Good day ma'am, there is a gentleman that goes by Field Phone Guy on youtube. He shows how to use the phone and much more. I hope this helps you out.

Did not see this before now. The EE-8 are compatible with most other field telephones used from 1900 and up to today. I guess this page is relevant: radionerds.com/index.php/EE-8
The phone is probably in working order, and could be used together with e.g. a French field telephone.
You may even get more info here, and get help to get it working. We may do it step by step if you not are familiar with the terminology.
    dsk

Thanks, Dag! If i can find another one that’s not too pricey then it would be great to see if they would work together; i’m currently looking now. Thank you for the link also! 💪

@@LifeinaFrenchManor I know far to little about how the communication during D-day worked but any hand cranked telephone civil or military will work together with your EE-8
Here in Norway both these and x-German field telephones was used by our forces 35 years later.
