Roland Martin caught up with Hip Hop mogul and entrepreneur, Russell Simmons during the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend to discuss Simmons' new book, "Super Rich"
This people do not really want you to get rich, if they do, they would physical come to your city and talk to you in person. You make an eye contact and absorb/feel what its like to be rich. You can feel the energy. That changes your whole mentality. I would rather purchase a book that can help me discipline myself, organize my way of life, transform me from a big boy mentality to a man and then i take it from there than buy this guys book and expect to get rich.
I believe that's the point of the book. Whatever it is you're aiming for be it money, be it fame, be it personal growth, it all begins from within. If someone is dumb enough to think that this book alone is going to bring them total happiness, or a pile of material riches, then they have some serious psychological issues. Everything he says in this interview and most likely what he talks about in the book are to take a person's focus from outside and to internalize it, to stop criticizing and killing our own creativity by trying to fit in to society's elaborate puzzle, and start nourishing our ideas no matter how different or dumb they may be and in the end whether you have millions or billions is not the point, you will be richer because you are doing what you want to be doing and you have the spiritual and mental wealth that no one can take away from you, and of course, if you're making one cent doing what you love to, you're already richer than most.

I like how he didn't only use Christianity in his examples, but many religions of the world, to prove his point. Having money isn't "being wealthy", happiness is wealth. Wisdom is also power. So keep chasing your paper if that makes you happy. It seems to me that people around him gravitated to a truly enlightened individual, which they often do. You can look at him and see someone who is truly content, and in sync, with the world/universe in which he lives. Money doesn't buy that kind of peace.
If you're unhappy when you're broke you will be unhappy when you're rich. He's talking about inner happiness not the happiness you get from material things. Being a thoughtful loving human being comes with an amount of contentment in life. If you are not satisfied with what you have (never limit yourself), you won't be satisfied with more, because you will always want more.

Honestly, if money created happiness, then there would be no rich people committing suicide. Rich people wouldn't get divorced or cry or become desperate. It's not the money that creates the happiness, it makes living life easier in general, for sure, but it doesn't necessarily eliminate problems--and sometimes it cause more.
I read a portion of his first book on what inspired him to get started in hip-hop and his clothing company he saw a fine line between the sub-culture and hip hop that he saw ralph lipsnichke taking away from our sub-culture and capitalized on it oh ralph lauren lol!!! great book

I have had rooting teeth for years, I'm in pain because of this for most of the days out of the year. My teeth weren't properly cared for during my youth because my mom didn't have enough resources so my teeth slowly started to deteriorate. The pain is starting to become debilitating.
