When I was a little girl back in the the early 60's, my Portuguese grandma would take me and my siblings out periwinkle hunting in the Bodega and Bolinas areas. We'd each have a bucket and see who could gather the most. They were never wasted. Everyone loved them except me. She'd boil them, let them sit for a few hours and then she'd give everyone a safety pin to dig out the meat. She'd melt butter in a pan and give everyone their own little serving bowl of warm butter. She'd serve this alongside some warm polenta mixed with chopped kale flakes. She sure knew comfort food. Thank you for your video and bringing back some wonderful childhood memories.

Winkles are much nicer than escargot in my opinion, when I was a boy we used to have them for Sunday tea in the UK, along with cockles there's nothing tastier.

Try them on buttered crusty bread with a touch of pepper and vinegar. Thats how we eat them in UK.

Those are snails ! In France or any fancy restaurant they call them escargot and they are removed with miniature 2 prong forks and eaten ! I think it’s cruel that people eat them because they are boiled to death and that is terribly painful ! Just a word from a vegetarian ! PEACE ☮️

I live in Newfoundland and I was down to the beach today looking for crabs to throw on fire and eat but instead I found these so I grabbed a few handfuls and threw them on a flat rock in the fire, and damn there delicious loves them! Taste like mussels to be honest.

Really tasty. I pick them regularly here in Northern Ireland with my kids. We would just boil them as is but will definitely try your method for curiosity. Any extra we normally store in a jar of vinegar like you would buy a jar of cockles or mussels in a shop. Thanks for the tip.

This brought so much memories! I love eating it with rice.. we actually boil it and make a soup! Now i am thinking when the last time I ate these. My mouth is watering.

Next time instead of boiling them or steaming them, try flash frying them in wok preferably, or thin pan large pan will do.
