- Panjshir Valley, the last stronghold of resistance to the Taliban, was captured by the armed group last week. The Taliban is now conducting search operations to find Ahmad Massoud’s men and their large stockpile of weapons. Taliban fighters have already found several containers of weapons from Soviet-era. According to some reports, these weapons were with the resistance forces since the war against Soviet occupation.

These are old weapons and probably most arent functioning well.You may have stockpiles of weapons but you know rifles without ammo is useless. If you have been following their updates ammo seems to have been a major let down in their fight. Taliban also has serious firepower this time round.

The Taliban have billions of dollars worth of US military equipment and the Panjshir Resistance were severely outgunned, outnumbered and reliant on old battle trophies from the 1980s. The outcome of this battle was hardly in question. Actually for your information they DO have the courage and they CONTINUE to fight, even if it's futile, it's just that nobody wants to give them the arms and money they need to mount an effective resistance against a heavily armed foe like the Taliban. The West has sold its soul to them in shady deals.

Stockpile of old weapons without ammunition is useless, no wonder they were eventually overran by Taliban. They had no ammunition to sustain the immense taliban firepower, but the soviets also entered panjshir and captured it but never concurred it. I believe once they have their strategies in place they will sure give taliban a good fight.

A lot of inaccuracies in this history. Massoud got minimal, if any US support in his fight against the Soviets. It wasn't until the late Jack Wheeler and Reagan essentially overruled John McMahon and Charlie Wilson that money Pakistan had been funneling to Hekmatyar was redirected to Massoud, forever changing the outcome of the Soviet conflict. Even then, in terms of aggregate funds, the vast, vast bulk went to Hekmatyar, both because the funds traveled through Pakistan en route to the Mujihadeen and because Charlie Wilson disliked Massoud and favored Hekmatyar until Wheeler, just about the only American who was actually ever in Afghanistan, was able to convince him that Massoud was actually fighting the Soviets and Hekmatyar was more so just trying to consolidate his own power.
Stop being silly! Masood was fighting for his own Panjsher, just like his son wants to do now. And Masood gave a safe passage to the Russians to leave Afghanistan..... He could have inflicted heavy casualties on the Russians but decided to take large amounts of money and weapons in exchange.
It was Massoud that brought about the defeat of the USSR in Afghanistan, Massoud that warned the world about Al Quaeda and Massoud that prevented the butcher Hekmatyar from totally overrunning Afghanistan. His son could easily have lived a good life in England but instead he chose to return to Afghanistan and risk his life fighting for democracy and against terrorism.
Massoud was a sellout and thief. He was secretly allied with the Russians
