💻 Lenovo laptop keyboard not working FIX

- The keyboard isn't receiving my letter input (as in when I'm trying to type in my password to log in for example), i could still change my lighting settings on the keyboard itself using Fn+spacebar.

Bro THANK YOU! I ordered a used t14s on eBay, when it arrived w, shift, X, and v weren’t working. When I disabled fast startup they started working. You are the CZcams GURU

(If people are confused : when you press the power button for one minute, the Lenovo logo will appear only one for 10 seconds then the screen will remain black for the 50 other seconds ; then, when the minute is expired, press once again the button like you would to start your computer normally, and it should work)

As a side note; Before watching this video, I figured out that disabling the "System Interface Foundation Service" in the System Configuration > Services, and restarting fixed the keyboard.
But I wasn't sure about the long term consequences, so I started digging and came across this video.
I disabled fast startup as suggested, and enabled "System Interface Foundation Service" back, restarted and it's working as expected.

Thx u saved me i repaired my pc after 5 months and now i got this problem and u saved me, for those dont understand too weel just disconnect all wire like mouse headset and AC and after turn off the pc and hold the button for 1 minute (if u hold and it dosent turn on after the first flash just hold it and wait)

I tried this and it doesn't work for me. I disabled fast startup and restarted, but my mouse and keyboard still suddenly disconnected after a couple hours, with the touchpad and multimedia keys still unscathed.

I have tried every single method I could possibly find and none of them worked, I was very skeptical of the hold power button. I tried it, the laptop didn't power back on like you said it after holding it for roughly 10 seconds. I pressed the power button again and it came on with the keyboard working again.

Тоже недавно пытался найти управление электропитанием в вин 11, и нигде его не обнаружил (то красивое меню с 4 настройками, что предлагает вин 11 не в счет). Похоже теперь их можно найти только вызвав напрямую. Спасибо майкрософт, я пожалуй даунгрейднусь, и посижу на 10ке. Там хоть и в анусe, но эти настройки еще можно найти.

I still cannot find the fix for my issue - keyboard goes to sleep only in games. In Windows everything is ok. But in any game, if I don't touch the keyboard for like 5 seconds (during loading for example) then I need to press a button and only next button press will work. When you're playing, it's not a problem as you almost always press something, but leave the keyboard untouched for 5 seconds and the issue appears.
Hibernation is turned off already.

I have Lenovo Ideapad 3 laptop and i very like it because of the build quality (maybe im just lucky), but i can agree with the fact that their software sucks.
I have this laptop about a year, and it have two main problems: the first that is it just can't go sleep. If i put it into sleep mode, it turns on again and. The second is that the touchpad have delay (if i use it the cursor moves with a delay).
Surprisingly, i don't have these problems when i boot into Linux, only in Windows. This proves the fact that it's software problem, and no matter why i tried to do (i also tried to update bios several times to the latest version) it not helped. Since i bought the laptop they released a lot of new versions for this laptop drivers and bios, but non of them fixed this problems on Windows.

Doesn't work for me at all. holding power button gets keyboard working up till windows 11 login screen. The moment I hit enter after password entry, keyboard is dead again. faithfully reproduced multiple times. Would very much love a permanent fix.

Thank you for the video sir. Right now I'm typing from the keyboard of my Legion Y540 that suddenly stopped working about 2 hours ago. I did the simple hold the power button for 1 minute method, however before that I updated my Windows from 10 to 11 because I thought that might help, but it didn't. Once i reverted back to Windows 10, it miraculously resolved the issue and now it's working. Not sure if the Windows update and revert had anything to do with it. Would love to know what's your opinion on this. I'm subscribing in the meantime.
Edit: I restarted the PC after I wrote this comments above, just to check if it reacures, and it did. The keyboard wasn't working again. I followed your instruction further, unchecking the Turn on fast startup button and proceeded to restart the PC again, keyboard still wasn't working. I shut it down completely, came back after 5 minutes. Did the exact same thing again, held the power button down for 1 minute, started the laptop back up again, keyboard still wasn't working. Only after another restart with holding the power button, now it finally works again. I'm scared to restart or turn of the laptop again right now.

I have a similar issue with a lenovo laptop, which is fixed by rebooting, however my fast startup is off and when my main keyboard gets locked, even the usb ones become unresponsive (one time they were, but next time neither the built in keyboard nor the usb one worked). Any ideas as to why this could be happening? Both times, however, it happened after sleep, so I guess that's something

Seems it's happening to me as well 🙃Holding power button for about 10 seconds and then turning device on helps, but I wonder if there is any better solution? I updated BIOS version from bhcn42ww to bhcn45ww, run every possible troubleshooting tool, tried to disable that fast startup option but it is not present in my settings - though I changed HiberbootEnabled registry value from 0 to 1 and run powercfg /h off command and finally - I tried to update drivers (they're up to date). Do you know if reinstalling Windows or installing some other OS will do the job :/ ?

I had this happen to me not too long after purchasing the laptop (Legion 5i) and fixed it by "holding the power button for 1min". Now roughly a year later it happened again but I had forgotten what to do and I stumbled upon this video of yours, thank you, thank you! You actually tackled the root of the problem. Disabling fast startup fixed it for now and hopefully forever.
I gotta disable it on my older laptop too and my friend's (both Lenovo).
To add, I think a better recommendation after disabling fast startup is not to restart but to shut down. I first restarted but it didn't work and I kinda expected it since my custom backlit colors remained, then I shut it down, backlit color briefly went back to factory blue and the keyboard was working again.

Its slowly gotten worse too with stuttering, screen flickering, keyboard lag, keyboard keys not registering, bluetooth issues. We'll see if this works

Hey my man, I have try your method and for some reason still sometimes the keyboard works and sometimes not. I am pretty sure is the ussue you mention. Do i need to do something else?

valorant has a China-made kernel-level anticheat spyware, which may treat lenovo keyboard driver as a cheat. does the keyboard work fine elsewhere?

Lenovo have issues with this Windows feature for at least 8 years in many desktops or laptops , suppose the BIOS in all these machines has some "bug" or something and they do not care at all about it

Disconnect power source until it boots. The machine specifically has a problem in the keyboard decoder. Try Fn+S+V with machine off for a couple of seconds.
Hi there, I tried doing both the fast boot solution and the power button reboot, but they don’t seem to be working.
Every time I close my lid and reopen it, my keyboard won’t be responsive. Am I perhaps experiencing a different problem than the one being resolved here?
it's a firmware issue from lenovo. i would suggest to repeat the power trick until it works and immediately get rid of the laptop on a marketplace while it still works

Update: Following my previous comment, the issue reoccurred. Booting in Safe Mode with all non MS services disabled didn't help. Somehow it's now working after a few restarts.
But any suggestions are welcome!

@@izzylie I forced shutdown during boot up, which sounds absurd, I know, but only after a few attempts it's now back. It's annoying that it's a repeating issue and there's no proper explanation or solution by Lenovo.
they keep pushing "keyboard firmware updates" through vantage though. try installing those.
anyway, lenovo has been crap since early yoga days, never buying anything from them again

I find the market very bloated and online reviews are not reliable.
I tired all of them - asus, msi, dell xps, hp the slim ones, lenovo carbons... all shit. 2021-22 hp's look promising, also asus zephyr g14/g15 are kinda ok, otherwise I'll buy some off-brand based on Clevo barebone.
I have a levano labtop. Only the numbers work. I cannot get into the labtop because i have to enter a password, and the on screen letters are locked as well. How can i fix it?
connect a usb keyboard. or use on-screen one with a mouse

use the external usb keyboard then.

Didn’t fix my keyboard light
I have a Lenovo Ideapad purchased February of 2023. My 3, E, F2 and F3 keys all stopped working a couple days ago. I just tried turning fast restart off and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Last night i tried uninstalling the keyboard and updating drivers. NOTHING HAS WORKED.
Any other suggestions? My next thought is to try opening it up to take out the battery. I've also had some random times the keyboard just doesnt work at all when i close the lid and move locations and open back up. Close and open again and it works fine again. So maybe checking the keyboard connection ribbon?
that's a different story completely, a hardware failure. in most cases, you have to replace entire keyboard. not that expensive to get a complete replacement, however you most probably will have to disassemble the entire laptop to fit the new one
@@izzylie dang it. Hopefully that isn't the issue. I do want to open the case and try to clean the contacts, but that is my last resort along with checking ribbons/wire plugs.
there is no accessible contacts on the buttons themselves, they are under domes (assuming it's a membrane keyboard of course). also be careful when cleaning the ribbon, any alcohol may dissolve the graphite traces and you are done.
@@izzylie i was going to try compressed air. My thinking is that the breather stand I made was cut out of wood with a laser. Perhaps the charred wood dust got sucked in by the fan and somehow got on the contacts? I really have no other ideas why the keyboard would suddenly go out a month out of warranty. Doesn't really make me want to come back to the brand if I can't fix it or have to replace the keyboard.
the keys have an almost hermetically sealed domes, so dust would not enter them. done keyboards survive being washed in water pretty routinely. the traces are probably the cu;pit. the problem is, they are printed with carbon-rich glue, basically pencil dust. not very durable in the first place. the keyboard is matrixed, that's why an entire zone of keys stopped working because they are on the same trace. But you may try just replugging the keyboard ribbon, that may help.
If your Lenovo Legion laptop works badly, get'im in your hands and throw into trashbin.

then the keyboard is dead. try reconnecting it, but do not clean the ribbon contacts with anything - they are printed and easily come off.
otherwise replace the keyboard, its not that expensive

Unfortunately , this method not fixing the problem. The opposite - when this recommended feature unchecked - power button trick not working. So in my case i need to check this recommended option and use power button(
Also i found that when keyboard is working - there 2 keyboard devices: HID keyboard and PS/2 keyboard. And when keyboard not working - its only PS/2 option...
this method is to flip the freaking thing on marketplace while it still works, not to keep lenovo

а че за прикол на леге 5 про 22 года иногда бывает так что клава в таком странном состоянии что если в течение секунд 20 не нажимать на клаву то если вновь начать нажимать клавиши она не считает пару нажатий а потом будет работать нормально и так до тех пор пока не перестану печатать опять на секунд 20 оч странная хрень, фиксится перезагрузкой но вообще подбешивает
лучше всего его слить нахер пока работает
