  • The Akai MPC Live 2, One and X have some useable on-board plugins, but can they FINISH the job? This MPC Tutorial will cover methods to mix inside your Akai MPC standalone if you're ever in a jam. These techniques can also be used in MPC Beats or in the full MPC Software.

    Looks like AKAI needs to add a Spectrum Analyzer and Visual Graphic EQ with a frequency spectrum for the next software update. Also, we need the Mixer view from the Live Control mode so we can gain stage properly and compare levels of various tracks side by side. Excellent video! Hopefully AKAI implements those changes so we can have more natural mixing process when making beats.

      @BKU Brown I hoped that they would never add key detection, but they did it anyway. Everyone uses the MPC differently, so more features never hurts. The whole key detection feature is completely useless to me because I actually understand music theory and took Aural skills. The point is if they add a visual EQ, then it's there if you want it and you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

    First of all, thank you for the video. Loved it.
    A couple questions and comments:
    1. On the melody 1 (Inst-Synth-Crystal)... is there a way to capture/sample the patch/program with all it's effects, thus creating a new patch/sample where we can use a new set of 4 effect slots?
    2. would you recommend to sub-group all the sounds (kick/bass, srums, harmonies, melodies and vocals) into their proper subgroup and then mix the subroups and not the individual sounds?
    Comment: I belive tha mixing by ear is more difficult, yet it trains the ear; instead of being dependent of visuals... what are your thoughts on that?
    thank you once again

  • @craigdaubbeats-rapinstrume9185

    I stopped mixing and mastering in standalone because of air Maximizer. I had to go back to using the software and Limiter No. 6. That air Maximizer always seems to add unwanted artifacts. I just feel like I don't have enough control over what it's doing. If anyone needs a good free limiter for the software, Limiter no 6 is where it's at (as far as free limiters go).👍

  • @VasiuMusic
    @VasiuMusic Před 3 lety +1

    Nice tips, bro! I like to use a prefader gain and not to lower my program level that much. You can try it and see if it works for you. I feel like effects are happier if you don't drive them that hard.

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  Před 3 lety

      How do you use a prefader gain in MPC?

    • @VasiuMusic
      @VasiuMusic Před 3 lety +2

      @@labandlegacy you just Add a channel strip as a first effect in rack and lower the gain. Disable eq and compression. I know you loose one effect slot, that’s the compromise.

    • @VasiuMusic
      @VasiuMusic Před 3 lety +1

      Another option and maybe more suitable would be to lower the midi track level from the track mixer page. It seems to have the same effect, it just lowers the level before the effects. At beginning I thought it was messing up with tone, but I experimented a bit lately and find out that it doesn't . I think Akai should be more clear in the manual regarding the signal path inside the newer MPCs.

    • @sinewaymusic
      @sinewaymusic Před 3 lety

      Any examples of how the effects are driven too hard without brining the levels down pre-fader? It seems a bit hard to believe that it would make a difference because of the headroom in the channel mixer. Just like a daw, it's not like the MPC clips anything internally just because a signal is over 0 dB. It would only clip on the end-of-line master outs. Unless they really messed up when designing the signal processing on these machines to be different from any other daw environment.

  • @Flipzworldd
    @Flipzworldd Před 3 lety +1

    Man you make this all look so easy to do I’m so lost. I use channel strip & sometimes the maximizer & noticed I was still clipping on the channel mixer when my master was fine

    • @labandlegacy
      @labandlegacy  Před 3 lety +1

      You can put the Maximizer on multiple channels, as well as on the master, but usually I will turn all my programs down 3db just to make sure. Don’t forget to double tap the top of the meters every now and then to clear the peak markers. If not they will stay high even when the channel is turned down and throw you off.

Get an interface for your phone, whether it's a simple cable or adapter to allow you to get direct audio to your phone (I did a video about getting better audio on your phone). Also, put some type of spotlight on yourself and the MPC. That's what the people are trying to see! I think top down just a little bit in front of you would create a dope look for that mask.
