    Eli, you are an ambassador of Russia. I think government should pay you and I think your videos will be an inspiration to everyone who watches your videos to travel even to the most remote places of Russia. Because at the same time you're showing us how beautiful and interesting of a place that could be to even think about traveling there and have a journey in real Russian winter.

    Hello from Finland. Long time ago I used to live near to the Russian border and I visited Sortavala dozens of times in the 1990's and had many friends there. Of course I drove there via Ruskeala every time. My first trips to Sortavala were when it was the Soviet Union. Things have changed a lot since then. BTW, "Ruskeala" is Finnish and it can be translated as "brown village".

      Well, the whole of Karelia WAS Finnish eighty years ago, and was taken from you by force from the Soviet Union (i.e., occupied), just like part of Ukraine is these days by the Russian Federation. - Maybe the Russians want to give it back to you some day?

    • @oh2mp
      @oh2mp Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@Jobst_van_Delft actually not the whole Karelia. A half of it has never been territory of Finland as it's quite big. Russians will never want to give that part that used to be Finland back. They have the attitude that what has one day been Russia, it will always be Russia. And in fact we Finns don't even want it back because it has been totally ruined in those decades after Russia stole it from us.

    Nikki seems like a remarkable friend, my sister "Nikki" (she passed on)" sorrow " comes to mind every time you spoke his name, so I used the spelling of her name...
    The Russian architecture in many of the places "squeaky floors included" remind me of the small towns and cities I grew up in...
    Montana my home state is the fourth largest in the USA following Alaska, Texas and California
    In size of area...
    Montana's nick name is the Big Sky State and on a clear day the Sky seems to go on forever...
    Because of its size Montana's natural beauty is a mix of grass land, bad lands, Forest , the Rocky mountain range, rivers and lakes to name a few. "There is Gold in them there hills" LoL
    I won't even try to explain the agricultural and natural resources aspects of Montana...
    A short list is wild horses, Bison 🦬, grizzly bears, brown bears, wolves, Canada geese, eagles Hawks and falcons to name a few!!!
    Amber waves of grain 🌾...

    This is such an interesting video. Steam trains are less efficient in many ways, but, travelling on a train like this which is maintained in period can "transport" the traveller back to an earlier time and place. There is almost no better way to experience history. I hope that the train in its present state is maintained so that many people can experience and learn about earlier times. Awesome vid Eli.

    The things I see in Russia are so homely, the cat, the apartment decorated in the traditional old style as your grandmothers living space. RUSSIAN society looks so refined . Today one has to pay a fortune to live such a grand life style of yesterday year. One must travel to RUSSIA to experience RUSSIAN culture. I have been to Haerbin in CHINA PRC to see what the strong influence of RUSSIA there. Thanks for sharing !

    Other than the environmental concerns, I LOVE the multi-era beauty and charm of this train!!! Thank you so much for taking us on this trip with you, Eli. Maybe times will get better and some day I can bring a friend to ride this train with me and explore all these marvelous places. Bright blessings.

    You see ! This is Russia ! A magical beautiful country with a world of nice people. I remember I read a book few years back where the main story was located in Russia. In this book you could read about stuff we see in videos from Eli. My dream was and still is to once be able to experience this on my own. Once all the bad stuff stops.
