  • In this Mini Sewing Machine thread tension adjustment tutorial, I show you exactly how to balance your sewing threads to get perfect stitches every time.
    The instructions that came with my KPCB Mini Sewing Machine were not very helpful. Neither are 99% of the thread tension adjustment videos out there. So in this beginner sewing tutorial though, I walk you through not only HOW to adjust the thread tension on your mini sewing machine, but also WHY we do what we do.
    In this way, you will develop a thorough understanding of how the mini sewing machine (or any sewing machine for that matter!) sews the stitches. And once you have this knowledge, it becomes super easy to adjust the thread tension for any sewing project that you plan to undertake.
    Using a sewing machine can appear to be a daunting task for beginners . And if you encounter problems like imperfect or bunched-up stitches, it can feel all the more frustrating.
    Remember - sewing is a journey, not a destination.The most important thing is to have fun while sewing and just roll with the mistakes and imperfections.

      Hi Denzel
      I'm so glad this helped you!
      yes please never use stretchy fabrics with the mini sewing machine, you will just be disappointed.
      if you do want to sew spandex , you need a sewing machine with some kind of a stretch stitch.
      usually these are zigzag stitches or overlock stitches as well as my favourite the triple stretch stitch.
      obviously the machines that have all these stitches are more expensive than the mini sewing machine
      i do plan to invest in one because i sold my two big sewing machines a few months ago due to lack of space. however i do miss sewing some projects which the mini sewing machine simply cannot handle.
      are you planning on investing in any other machine and if yes what a brand are you looking at?

    I just found a brand new mini sewing machine at Goodwill yesterday for five dollars but the tension knob for some reason was removed and I need to figure out how to put it back together. From what I can see the two washers go on first with the little holes to put on the tab and then the spring goes over the shaft of the tension knob; is that correct?

    Great tutorial. I just bought the mini and was struggling to understand how to set the thread tension with that deal as it seems super tight.
    I have question though, after sewing something, how do I secure the end of the fabric so the threat doesn't just undo?
    I can keep going beyond the fabric to tease out some thread from the top spool but the one under the lid seems to end as soon as I go beyond the fabric and I don't know how to sew it off so it's sealed.
    I'm currently just folding a square piece of fabric over and sewing the two sides together to leave one end of the square open to use as a dust cover for cameras I have permanently set up.

    Is there a way to fix the thread tangling around the thread take up lever? I can only sew about 8 stitches max then the thread gets tangled around the lever and pops.

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  Před 4 lety +1

      Could it be popping out from between the tension discs as you sew? Keep a close eye on that and check. When that happens, it gets tangled around the lever. If that's the case, sew slowly.

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  Před 4 lety

      Hi
      thanks for your query.
      How many layers are you trying to stitch please? This is a very small machine and will struggle with more than 2 denim layers. There is a hack for sewing thicker layers that I posted in this video:
      czcams.com/video/33h1L5FVnn4/video.html
      But if you are trying to hem jeans, remember that there are several layers at the seam and I doubt you will be able to sew through all of them. You will need a heavyweight sewing machine to do that.
      Hope this helps x

      Hi Stuka,
      It's only a little machine not designed for sewing very heavy fabric.
      When you hem jeans , there are at least 5 layers of denim at the seams. I don't think this machine can cope to be honest, it's just not designed to do that kind of sewing.

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  Před 2 lety

      Saroj do you mean to say that your thread keeps breaking while sewing? the 2 biggest reasons for this are thread quality and thread tension problems. thread tension problems occur if your sewing machine is not setup and threaded properly and you have to adjust the tension properly as well. if you go into my playlist you will find videos dealing with all of these problems in the sew not scary playlist. I hope this helps.

      Hi Renrose,
      could be your upper thread tension is too high.
      New sewing machines come very tightly wound up, you'll have to easy and balance the tension.
      Follow the steps here to do this easily:

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  Před 4 lety

      Hi Uma, thank you for your question. I don't think you can do pico/piko with this machine. It only does a simple straight stitch. Besides, most saree fabrics are very lightweight and this machine struggles with light weight fabrics. I hope this helps.

      I don’t know if you fixed It yet but It could be a timing issue with the thing that’s supposed to catch the thread inside while it’s sewing. She has a video that fixes this, i had the same issue. You have to take It apart a little to fix It but she makes It look so easy you only need a screw driver

    • @OoniCrafts
      @OoniCrafts  Před 4 lety

      Hi Maristela,
      Firstly , please use a high quality thread.
      Then check the tension on a scrap piece of fabric ON THE BIAS. Pull the fabric and see which thread breaks. Adjust accordingly.
      Check this video for details: czcams.com/video/ZEky17PmJo0/video.html
      If nothing works and the machine is refusing to stitch properly, it might be a timing issue. Watch this: czcams.com/video/_N6F1ehfJKs/video.html

      you will have to open up your sewing machine in order to get it and then screw the thread tension controller back on again
