- Alpine & Western Pacific Railroad - Tahoe Junction Division.
Santa Fe round trip to Tahoe Junction.
Follow this LGB F7 A-B-A Santa Fe with its string of six cars. The Tahoe Junction Division has almost 2,000 feet of track. The "Big Hill" is 100's of feet long with a 40 climb. It is almost a continuous 6% grade with multiple tunnels, shear cliffs and two viaducts, one is over 5 feet high. Leave from the main yard, see the spectacular 3 Bridges Gorge, traverse the high desert, travel through the tunnels of Eights' Pass, ride along the edge of the massive China Wall, go through Harris Junction, ride atop the amazing viaduct, into Mooser Tunnel and then to the top station, Tahoe Junction.
This division is still under construction.
Wow ! Fantastic layout. What a work of art !!
Thank you!
That is a beautiful layout, you have such a beautiful gob .Dave from down under

Pretty damn cool. Nice stonework throughout. Lots of time to create this layout. Appreciate the ride.

Fantastic ! ! ! Wish I had such a layer.
Thank you! Cheers!
The hobo union called. They said that you forgot the hobo camp...
They are on the other division.
I cant believe the amount of work it took to make that possiable, great train and great layout. What guage is that, ? O GUAGE? i noticed a double rail track, not three like lionel.
HI and thank you. It is G gauge. All DCC control. About a mile of track.
Amazing.
Thanks!
Late to the party but great layout and nice view of the LGB material. I was always warned not to put tunnels not to put tunnels because if wildlife living in them and such, but you have many and long ones. How do you keep the critters out of your tunnels? Just run the train everyday? Thanks for a nice video. Maybe I see you at the Reno show this year
Hi and thanks for the comment. Running the trains every once in a while keeps them out. When I close up the railroad for the winter or a long period of time, I place sand bags in front of the openings. What show are you talking about in Reno?
Thank you. The national N scale show is in Reno this year. I happen to model on both scales. The organizers probably haven't thought of G scale but this would be a good one. Thank you again for a great looking and very clean garden railway
Awesome layout... the detail is incredible! I have a question about the road bed... what are the tracks laid on?
Continuous concrete curbing is used for the roadbed.
The Super Chief had fluted SS car sides.
Yes and only one dome
Terrific layout! Lots of planning and very nicely executed. I love it. Does the loco sound ever run in something less that notch 8 (or whatever the top speed is)?
Thank you! I not clear on your question?
The sound card on your locomotive only plays as if the train was moving at full speed - even as it is very slowly pulling into your house at the end. I have a set of those LGB locomotives. The pitch normally varies up and down depending on speed.
@@bobgoodwin2832 yes it does, just not noticeable in the video. BTW the new LGB Santa Fe has a new sound file witch is great!
OK where in the world did you get that electric roll up door? I love your RR I just started building my new Railroad and my property is similar in alot of ways ,side of a hill with great view.

I also live in the Reno area. Spectacular layout. What do you do for this layout during the winter time? Cover the tracks? Just not run your train?
We run trains all the time if there is not too much snow.
Great job shooting the train, good camera work. This looks like a career, not a hobby.
Thanks! Which part, trains or video?
The video is a nice hobby. The train, now that's a different story... Much like a wooden boat, once you start, it never ends... It becomes a career!
What’s the procedure if you have a problem in one of the long tunnels?
That rarely happens. I have a long pole with a hook that i can pull them out.
Nice SC but one dome to many
Thanks for watching. I was testing to see if the train could make it up and back with all of the cars with 6% GRADE.
When the new items of LGB/Märklin will appear, You have the chance to complete the beautiful train with baggage car (#36579) and dining car (#36578). I know they are expensive but without these cars something is missing. I hope LGB will produce enough of these 2 cars, that all the proprietors of the first edition can complete their trains.
The layout is nice but 5% grade is in my opinion defintively too much to run long american trains to come closer to the prototype. But it´s everyone taste and can not be discussed.
Wish You much fun with Your RR furthermore and stay healthy. Joachim

There are 3 divisions to the Railroad. This is the Tahoe Junction Division that does run a 5% to 6% grade. It is loosely modeled after the Bernina Pass from Italy to Switzerland, witch is also about this same grade. I am usually running Swiss trains, but for fun, I tested the Santa Fe on this new division, to see how it would handle the grades. I did order the new Sante Fe Locomotives and cars and they just arrived! Thank you for your comment!
