Organ music is greatly underappreciated in the modern world. I would say the pipe organ is the king of all instruments. For certainty it's the most majestic of them all.
In all the other cultures of the world that we have knowledge of, there has never been a musical instrument of this magnitude, complexity, versatility and grandeur. Never ever ever. The pipe organ and its music and architecture stand as one of the pinnacles of the great Western Culture.

I listen to Gert VanHoef and many other organist`s from the Netherlands because the Netherlands has such wonderful old and wonderful pipe organs.My father graduated from the Chicago Conservatory of Music in 1911 and was a pipe organist many years and gave concerts as well.Also was a organ & piano tuner with his 4 of six sons and I was able to go into many of the organ chambers watching them tune and service these magnificent instruments.Listen many times a week.I also play the organ by ear.Thank you for this wonderful music.
Every year my father would conduct and play the Messiah with the Vancouver Bach Choir. It was always a great joy to go and hear some great music and singers.
Though I have sung this chorus innumerable times, until hearing this interpretation, I never conceived of it as an organ solo. Thanks immensely for opening my ears and mind to this masterful performance on a truly magnificent instrument!
I agree, absolutely. It's sad to see that even someone as talented as Gert can sometimes draw only a small audience. It's a sign of the times, and the ignorance of so many people, these days. They would rather hear some moron screaming a puerile, repetitive, insult to intelligence into a microphone.
I will echo that -- builder has it right....if you notice the number of silver-headed fans in the audience, it tells the tale. Those under 50 have no idea about the depth and beauty of this instrument. It truly is the king of instruments, and Gert is its prince. The youthful Gert /Jan team have done much to bring this music to to their peers...I believe they have done more than anyone else to bring this fine music back to life.
Not all young people dislike this music! I was there together with my 16 year old daugther and she realy liked it. Big chance we will attend another concert of Gert this afternoon in a smaller church (Vredeskerk) in the same street as this church in Katwijk!
I think young professional organists like Gert are arousing curiosity for new young audiences with the use of CZcams. The problem with the pipe organ is it is not easy to reproduce through speakers. I brought a friend with me from Northern Ireland to England in August 2017 to hear Gert. It was my friends first time to hear a pipe organ live. He was amazed at the variation of sounds.
There's a lot more to playing this instrument, than meets the eye. I play the piano, and I tried the pipe organ in my local church.... Wow, I suddenly realised that I had to play with ALL 4 of my limbs AT ONCE! One day I'd love to take lessons. I'm a higher functioning autistic, (with ADHD.) With my form of autism, I can taste, smell and feel textures within the music, as well as hearing it like everyone else. I agree this guy's amazing!
Great performance on a lovely, lovely instrument. I love the way Dutch organs really do sound like wind instruments rather than machines. You can hear every pipe, even the imperfections. Mutations are subtle but beautiful. The action looks very precise too. I can almost feel the way the couplers respond just by looking at the keys. Thanks.

Really Gert? Your time was all over the place. ??? Counted it out loud until you get this wonderful old war horse down pat. You can't make a mistakes on a piece that is so familiar to our ears. It's like messing up on Happy Birthday. You could really do something with this work. Its right up your improv... spectacular.
Beautiful playing. Love the sound of this organ. I was also so very happy to see Jan de Rooij making an appearance. It brought back fond memories of Gert's earlier videos and concerts with Jan as his wonderful registrant.
At such a young age this man is a genius! I am highly impressed at his technique and presentation. He will no doube rival the earlier masters, in his ability and presentation. I wish him well !
Is it me or......am I the only one whom is flabbergasted that this young man is afflicted with is talent and is playing for a church which is only half filled but what me surprised me even more that he didn’t get a standing ovation he deserved. What more can one say that hasn't a ready been said and felt, I might add except the organ at Nieuwe Kert sound as GREAT as Gert's playing. What new? Gert in glasses (and my years at 82+). how time fly's.
I trust I will hear better ... much better performances of this piece. But probably not till I hear it with perfect ears. On a perfect organ. In a perfect setting. With a perfect understanding of the intricacies, tones, timing, harmony, theory, and appreciation for the music, and the fact, that He shall reign forever and ever. Amen.
