  • It’s no secret that if you speed out on the Eastern Shore, there’s a good chance you may get a ticket. Investigative Reporter Margaret Kavanagh got a ticket for speeding on State Route 13 and started asking questions about how many tickets are written and how much money is being generated. The News 3 Investigative Team uncovered that the town of Eastville is writing a lot more tickets than many other cities.

If they only pull people over going over 70, why did she get a ticket for 64mph…?

She got pulled over going 64 in a 45. So 19 miles over the speed limit.

She got pulled in the town of Exmore where the speed limit is clearly marked as 45 mph. The speed limit on 13 in Eastville is 55 mph.

They’ll hand out speeding tickets in a heartbeat, but refuse to do anything about people running red lights, driving while texting, or driving in the left lane and holding up traffic. 🙄

Entire state is a speed trap, not just the eastern shore. Think DC and VA are the only ones that ban radar detectors. Small towns in Portugal have one stop light, if you're speeding it turns red and you have to stop. If you're doing the speed limit it stays green and you can continue through without stopping. Genius idea.

wow, did not expect a comment about Portugal on this! Ever since they put the speed lights on the marginal in estoril/cascais I thought that would be the easiest thing to implement in the US, but it never happened.

If you drive the speed limit you won't get a ticket for speeding . As for targeting out of state . The shore is a major road for vacationers . Most Virginia tags on the shore are locals and most of them are working while the vacationers travel through thinking it's the interstate .

I’ve been driving up and down the Eastern Shore from Maryland to Hampton Roads and Maryland to Massachusetts for the last forty years. They’re are certain areas and towns famous for speed traps up and down the shore. Eastville, VA lately has been a hot spot, along with the town of Elmore, VA

I grew up on the east ESVA and still to this day have criticisms of it, but I do get why the Lankford Highway has a 55mph limit.
Case in point: one time I was back in town visiting, cruising 60 and some guy merged on a few yards ahead and proceeded to go probably 30 mph. If I hadn’t have slammed on the breaks it would have been ugly.

I hate living in Exmore. I work in Eastville. I live in Northampton county. Emporia isn’t even close (which I have been through several times) here on the shore they literally harvest their own citizens as well as out of towners for every dollar they can squeeze out of them…
One thing that was not mentioned in the video-
Northampton is the POOREST county in VA…

I grew up in Exmore. It sucked when I was a kid and now it sucks even more! When I went back to visit my parents all I heard about was crime, businesses closing and more crime!
Northampton county just sucks in general.

Does no one remember this Virginia? They use to hide at those “authorized vehicles only” spots on the highway. Even in Nova, states troopers were no one to f with. But then, especially after covid they became soft. I don’t blame them, but at the same time, the should be treating people with VA plates differently. Everyone else should be on their own.

@@9501lewis frankly I don’t care what the sign says. The flow of traffic is what the speed limit is and any officer will tell you that. If you’re going slower than other cars then you get a ticket or you move to the slow lane. If you’re excessively flying past other vehicles and being reckless you get tickets, you go to jail and you get your license taken.

@@tampabayroadcam2017 The speed limit is what is posted. What the drivers choose to do is separate from that and is not a law. Yes, I lived in Atlanta and I'm intimately familiar with "flow of traffic". Still. Excusing "flow of traffic" as a speed law is as good as calling any shoplifting under $1000 not prosecutable.
