A basketball-loving teen fearing a knock on his door was his neighbors complaining he was making too much noise while shooting at a tree was stunned when they surprised him with a new hoop. The kind-hearted surprise not only went viral but also received support from the likes of NBA star Lebron James, who described the gesture as "pure and beautiful" on social media. For months, Ian Ray and his neighbors in Edmonton, Canada, watched Anthony Moubike, aged 14, make do with shooting at a tree and dribbling around on his drive and the nearby sidewalk. But one day, Ian thought to himself that someone nearby must be able to help Anthony out, so he posted a message in their local Facebook Group, Northside Hub (Edmonton), to ask if anyone had a net. Sure enough, offers came flying in, with people asking Ian if they could also donate cash to help Anthony out with his basketball prospects. With the wheels in motion, a manager at a local tire store then messaged to donate the entire net himself, and so Ian collected the net and put the other donations, $750, into a sports store gift card. Ian then arrived at Anthony's home, where he knocked on the door and the teen made his way outside. Initially, Anthony admitted he feared his basketball playing on the street and against trees would be cause for complaint, but then Ian revealed the hoop and presented the teenager with a gift card.

A Story like this is why I still have faith in humanity. Shout out to all involved with this kind act for a great young man.
The way the kid thought he was annoying people with his dribbling is so relatable. He seems incredibly socially aware, and you can't teach that, it comes from being raised right. Good for him and his family. I sincerly hope he makes it.
Exactly!
True dat!
Raising/teaching children are intertwined. Every child can be taught to be socially aware and considerate. You certainly CAN teach that. I wish somebody would teach me how to not be a pedant ....
While I completely agree, being raised is being taught. The boy has good parents making him a good kid. They taught him to be socially considerate. No toddler is socially considerate.
It could also be interpreted as him being too self-conscious, and a people pleaser. You see this a lot with young men who do not have a Father. Either way, this kind of support would hopefully sort out any self-esteem issues, and reinforce good behavior that people notice. The boy inspires something in others, just by being himself, that is amazing.

Why be negative? Sky's the limit brah
@@LaRoseDetails I don’t believe Stormrider’s comment are negative at all. The young man was shown an act of compassion by a neighbor and his community. A man and a community of people in which I assume, do not all look look like him, and yet they still rallied to act together in kindness. The power of community is the main takeaway here.
The gifts the young boy’s community gave him just may fuel his dream to become a professional athlete, but it will also give him something to remain passionate and focused and possibly help derail him from making life altering bad decisions, running with the wrong crowd, etc.
He may indeed make it to play professionally, but if he doesn’t, he will learn important life skills through the game of basketball, teamwork, cohesiveness, interdependence.
He may may not make it to the pros, but his love of the game and balling skills just may help him acquire a college degree on either partial or full athletic scholarship.
And as an adult basketball could be an outlet of exercise and recreation, many men (former high school or collegiate ballers) continue to hone their athleticism and competitive drive through pick up games after work or on the weekend. Lastly, if he becomes a father, he could share his love of the game with his children.
I sincerely hope that the young boy in the video becomes a man and professional baller. But if he doesn’t, I’m sure that he will forever be impacted by the community of people who cared enough for him and encouraged him through a communal act of kindness.
@@LaRoseDetails Not being negative, just being realistic. It's a slim chance to get into the NBA, having the highest hopes isn't always the best thing because it could lead to disappointment.

Even if he don't it won't go to waste just cause it was given with they're hearts and help him with that gift. The kid is a good kid and with that good gesture he will appreciate his community more and work hard to keep that
He likely has so much more drive because of this, which is probably the most important thing to have when trying to become a pro. He knows whenever he feels down he has all these people back home who believe in him and want him to succeed. Even if he doesn’t he seems smart enough to have a good career
Chances are slim but at the very least I hope he's good enough to get scholarships and goes to college or university and if he doesn't make it has something to fall back on.
Hope he achieves his dreams.
What a beautiful story, put a smile on my face! What a wonderful community, a lucky young man with a bright future, bravo 👏 I wish you all happiness!!
Some neighbors don't have the same reaction to such things. What a wonderful example to follow. Thank you
I agree, you don't see enough of this.
This is what it’s about- helping each other, kindness, respect, friendship. It’s not hard people.
too bad we don't see a lot more stories like this on the news
Amen!!!
What a great kid. You can tell his folks have brought him up well. May he go far in life and be successful beyond his wildest dreams. So nice of the neighbor and the other folks in the neighborhood to give him such a thoughtful gift
When he makes it professionally. I wouldn't be surprised what he would give back to his community.
Mann i hope he makes it just to see how grateful he is and gives back
♥️♥️
Imagine this kid in the NBA going back to his neighborhood and blessing everybody. 🧡
He will. Thumbs up.
Yes, because professional athletes are better than everybody else.
@@JSchaffer214 when he said "blessing everybody" he's talking about the kid growing up making $$$ and giving gifts back to the people.
Gonna say a prayer for everyone who helped out!
@@JSchaffer214 well maybe most don't get a simple act of kindness displayed in the video, if he makes it I bet he will remember this for the rest of his life. I grew up in LA in the 90's, you had a high probablity of being shot in the park due to gang crossfire. We would never get any type of support from any one, even the gangs stole our stuff, cops thought we were gangs, and all kinds of discriminatory behavior
God Bless you for guiding this young Man in the right direction.
Fantastic story. Love the gesture and reception. We don't hear enough about good things like this that happen in the world. It is good to know that people care like this. The young man is a shining example of why kids need support to follow their dreams. He is a good kid.
Made me tear up. This is how the world is supposed to operate. We humans have such an ability to uplift others . . . and ourselves in the process. Love from 🇨🇦
It's the politicians,divide and rule.
@@kristineodongo9357 yup, when u let people just be people it tends to work out kinda nice. heres a hug from a stranger
Me too.
Yes!
@dynamike People like you is what's wrong with this world.
Edit: Regardless of his intentions, he just made a huge positive impact on this kids future. Not only that, the man spent his own money and used his own time to make a difference in this crazy world we live in. We need more people to be like this man, and less people to be like you.
"He almost looks like Thor." That compliment, that man loves hearing that.
OMG, totally.
Seems like the kid needs some type of male role model. Glad the guy seems like he genuinely cares about his neighbors.
I bet he's like hey what's up "Thor" wanna shoot some hoops, now that they're friends 😎😁👍
68 yrs of age and you brougth tears.
Young man, I expect to see you inthe NCAA playoffs sooner than you may think.
Keep reaching for the stars.
To the Rays, you did great. Beyond words.
The way he stepped in to shake hands with a firm grip, the appreciation and respect 🤗
Lovely young man, hope he's well and thrives✌️
It truly takes a village to raise a kid. It's wonderful to see caring neighbors looking out for the future of their community.
There are a lot more caring and giving people out there we all need to come together and honor and respect each other regardless of anything, and be grateful for all of our blessings what they might be!
That’s called community right there. That’s how you encourage a young man. It shows that his work ethic has been noticed. Takes a special man to help lift up the next generation also.
Well Said
This is how the world should look!!!!!!! This is beautiful!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
The world really needs this right now. Fair play to everyone involved, but especially the neighbour for making it all happen in the 1st place and his mom's for raising such a decent lad. Keep up the hard work and chasing that dream
This is how people should treat each other, the look on his face was priceless!!! Loved it and yes it makes you cry happy tears
and you could actually see their faces 👍🏻
Well... people DO treat each other this way. Constantly. It's main stream media who'd have us believe we hate each other. Of course there's idiotic A-holes all over the place, but they're really a very small minority, enhanced by social media and thoroughly encouraged by a specific malicious few with the power to do so. It's all political manipulation to keep the masses in check. The best way to control a people is by keeping them divided.
@@nemoniente5844 Yes they do. 100% correct Nemo; great post.
@@nemoniente5844 exactly. Media makes us all out to be evil.
