brendan fraser is like pure golden retriever energy, i think that's the key ingredient to his himbo appeal.
The Half of It works for the same reason, I love that mix. I'll probably marry a golden retriever
he still has that energy now tbh. people may not find him as "hot" anymore but the pureness is there
Nothing insulting about that...
@@chand911 you're not wrong, there isnt.
brendan frasier as george is one of the greatest acting performances of all time. completely silly but completely earnest. acting in a kids movie without being cringe is hard af
George of the jungle is the first himbo i fell in love with, and also that movie is the embodiment of the "female gaze" and it's fucking hilarious. Brendan Fraser SUPREMACY!!!!!
The female gaze in this movie is so prominent, no wonder I love it 🤭
Yes!!
You guys should also see Brendan as his other bimbo role in 1994's 'Airheads'.
@@COSun25 yessss!! Him and Adam Sandler make the sexiest himbos in that movie lol . Freaking hilarious. I hope she does a reaction to it someday
@@COSun25 Two himbos and Steve Buscemi at his most metal 🤘 Airheads rocks!
It’s nice to see how far Brendan Fraser has come as an actor and i’m looking forward to seeing him in “The Whale” since everyone has been talking about it. He got really emotional after everyone saw it
Yeah apparently he got a 7 minute standing ovation and that broke him
That standing ovation video is amazing to see
@@FortuitousOwl he deserves every bit of it and more
@@MaRodney07 very true!!
He was a great actor even then. See School Ties, and Gods and Monsters.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and was like "oh, he's Tarzan but funny."
Then I rewatched it and I'm like "OH MY GOD THIS IS A ROMANTIC COMEDY THAT I LOVE"
I first saw this movie when I was 8
And had already figured out it was a Tarzan spoof!
Brendan had a lock on the himbo aesthetic in its many varied forms throughout the 90's. Aside from his more serious work (School Ties, Gods & Monsters, etc), he embodies that energy in so much of his work. Encino Man (1992) is the OG himbo, all the way to Blast From The Past (1999). Bless this man and his contributions to cinema 💪
i think in both encino man and george of the jungle brendan has that perfect blend of himbo and the born sexy yesterday trope.
Oh man, I haven't seen Encino Man in far too long...
@@kamakazines4901 Same. It also stars Sean Astin.
I love how Leslie Manns revealed how hard it was to do the final scene because she genuinely fell in love with brandon fraser
and who could blame her? 😍😍😍
@charityquill4965 who wouldn't fall for Brendan Fraser?
I love how Brendan can play such an adorable doofus like George and still be a badass. Also, I love how this movie is set in Africa and Shep is an Asian elephant.
Omg 😂 that's so funny, those are the kinds of things they overlooked because the general population wouldn't notice
That bugged me even as a kid!
@@SophiaPhannn
With autism, I can't help but notice certain details that others overlook. Example: Shep being the wrong kind of elephant for the movie. He has one trunk finger, small ears that are somewhat shaped like the country of India and the top of his head is indented in the center, giving the illusion of being shaped like a butt. And more bristly body hair. African elephants have two trunk fingers, large ears that are shaped like the continent of Africa, and typically have really long tusks, especially on special male African elephants called tuskers. Tuskers have tusks that practically touch the ground. Another difference between Asian and African elephants is that only male Asian elephants grow tusks, females don't.
Brendan Fraser went through a bit of a phase where all he was playing was hot dumb guy. Weird thing was he was super good at it! He had a way of emphasizing the charm of the character to the point where we didn't care about the intelligence.
My favorite was Blast from the Past.
And then he went and did Badass Indiana Jones type in The Mummy and stole all our hearts, AGAIN.
He had brains in Blast from the Past. He was just naive from being stuck in a bunker for years. Plus he got to wear clothes and not starve himself to be an object for people to drool over. George of the Jungle is a low point for me. This man is way better then this crap.
I can say as a straight man, I totally get why people love George (and Brendan Fraiser).
Man is an inspiration to anyone and everyone.
Great reaction Sophie!
I haven't seen Brendan's new movie but im so happy for him he got a standing ovation and was emotional I love that man!
The stuntman for George of the Jungle deserves so much credit for this movie! I don’t know how he didn’t die from the Bay Bridge swing to the biggest swing in jungle history. He literally risked his life for this movie.
The 4th wall breaks in this movie were golden
I agree!
My fave fourth wall joke is when they throw their heads back, and laugh!
I LOVED this movie as a kid! I rented this movie so many times. I loved the story, I remember laughing so hard. I had such an innocent crush on Brendan and his character in this movie, too. It really brings back these childhood summer vacation memories that are so special!
13:36 "Bad guy falls in poop. Classical element of physical comedy. Now comes the part where we throw our heads back and laugh. Ready?"
All: Ready.
LOL!!! 😆😆😆😆😆
*throws head back and laughs*
this whole movie is a thirst trap, the directors knew what they were doing
“Everybody loves a himbo”
As someone named George I can say this movie is very fondly remembered
Man, I would love to have seen Brendan Fraser's Firefly character in the now cancelled Batgirl movie. They right there was supposed to be his comeback, but sadly that movie will never see the light of day.
Oh well, at least we got the whale.
He’s also recently starred in Doom Patrol on HBO Max. It’s more of a voiceover role but he makes physical appearances too and is excellent in it. Should check it out if you haven’t.
If it hadn’t been for Joss Whedon’s annoying awful ass, that movie probably wouldn’t have been canceled
@@patriotsfan122480 I absolutely love him in Doom Patrol ! That's what got me back into thinking about Brendan Frasier as an actor. So great in that role.
Sophia really out here glowing like a mermaid/Greek goddess with those earth tones and flowing curls😭❤
Omg this comment is so sweet, thank you 🥺💙
@@SophiaPhannn nice reaction. Tell me though, have you ever watched the Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002)
Asian goddess, but yeah.
She is looking good.
Brendan Fraser was so hot back then, in both this and the mummy movies. He went through some shit, but happy to see him back on his feet again.
And he gonna win the Oscar soon too 😁
@@ricky93100 Oscars don't mean a lot these days given the rubbish coming out of Hollywood, but if anyone deserves praise its Brendan
@@MrOrcshaman But sometimes they do get it right and I think if he wins that would be a hell of a W for Brendon Fraser
George of the Jungle isn't just a movie about a lovable himbo. It is the lovable himbo of movies.
George is the ultimate himbo tbh
Fun fact: my nan used to work on payroll for movies that were filmed at Village Road Show here on Gold Coast, Australia. She go to meet Brendan Fraser and said he was a very nice person and very good looking (no surprise lol).
Omg I love that, he seems lovely
I've known I wasn't straight since age 3, and George is the reason for that! 😆
this movie understood the female gaze
I had this on vhs. And I watched it religiously when I was a kid. Watching it as an adult is such a wild ride of innuendos
Brendan Fraser really had me in a CHOKEHOLD 😂
But like…who else had a sexual awakening when they saw this movie?
God this movie was a comedic goldmine, plus the romance was just so wholesome. Also love how the guides take the piss out of villain, the poop scene never fails to make me laugh.
I distinctively remember watching this on Disney Channel as a kid, I always wonder why I liked it so much! Now I get it lol it's funny, VERY CAMP, & shirtless Brendan Fraser 😍
Shirtless guys are my obsession!
His loincloth shows a lot!
Great timing, this is the Brenaissance 🌟⭐✨✨🎆 our king is back!!! He was my first childhood crush, I used to watch all his movies with this face 👁️👄👁️ specially George made me have strange thoughts
Nothing like a jungle himbo to spark a gay awakening
This was my mom and I's favorite movie when I was a kid! We always had so much fun watching it 😂
It's ok to watch anything you like no matter what age you are
Very good himbo representation. I want my transmasc energy to be similar
GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE IS AN ICON
16:27 damn he was shredded in this.
Brendan Fraser was 29 when he was in this.
Really loving that wavy hair look on you Sophia! I hope you're able to rock it more often!
Thank you!! I love my hair like this, but this is definitely one of the rarer occasions where it turned out the way I wanted it 😅
It took a lot of effort so I'm glad I'm not the only one gushing over it. Absolutely gorgeous
Brendan Fraser in this movie is definitely a catch.
The reverse racism oof.
No such thing, it's just called racism
This movie kind of gives me some Robin Hood Men in Tights vibes with Cary Elwes. No hate cause I love that movie. I just find it amusing how both movies have a kind of similar comedic element. Am I crazy? Maybe that's just me. Although Robin Hood was more raunchy since it's PG-13.
Hey, Sophia, if you're interested, I would love for you to react to that movie! It's another movie where it's so cheesy but it's also so hilarious and self-aware. It's also kind of similar to Ella Enchanted which funny enough also had Cary Elwes! I feel like the Robin Hood movie is so underrated. Probably because Cary's other classic Princess Bride is more well known.
That one's a bit more insane, but it's a good time, and a gateway to Blazing saddles.
My only memory from the second movie is when Ape ends up on the top of the Empire State building replica in Vegas and then he looks at the camera and says something along the lines of "you thought we weren't gonna make this joke?" which I feel like it symbolizes the level of the second movie as a whole.
I loved this movie so much as a kid, Tarzan and George got me into climbing trees, like I used to suck at climbing but cause of these movies I practiced hard as at climbing and went on to bigger and bigger trees. Also that discount Jamie Lannister guy is lucky those berries didn't give him a rash
I used to like climbing trees too!! LOL but then the fear of hurting myself stopped me from climbing too high 😂
I was 6 when this came out. Think about that. I knew I was bi that young but didn't know how to express it other than "I freaking LOVE this movie" ... how pure.
The irony of so many of these statements is fucking hilarious, as if she's not aware.
Brendan fraisure is a treasure
This is one of my favorite childhood movies! I absolutely loved the narration style. This movie is what started my huge crush on Brendan Fraiser. I can’t wait to see his comeback film.
I always watched this movie when I was little!
It never gets old!
When this first came out people bashed it for being stupid. But forgot this was based on a cartoon bundled with Rocky and Bullwinkle from the 60's. There was even a pizza restaurant like Chuck E Cheese, it was called Bullwinkles.
I saw this in theaters, front row lol. Was my introduction to Brendan Fraser, Leslie Mann, & Thomas Hayden Chruch. In the years since whenever I see any of them in anything I’m like “It’s George!”, “It’s Ursula!”, “It’s Lyle!” lol. Also, I wanted to look like Ursula sooo bad, thought she was so pretty (still is!), so I got a perm in attempt to obtain her curls since I was already blonde. This is when I was in..5th or 6th grade..? My hair did NOT turn out like hers, was awful lol. Oh! Also my intro to Holland Taylor!
I love the "aww" joke haha
That was brilliant!
I remember watching a several part video on TikTok about how George of the Jungle has the perfect example of the female gaze.
Also I NEVER KNEW THEY REPLACED BRENDAN IN THE SEQUEL. 😭I had the dvd for the sequel and the last time I watched it was when I was a kid, so I always thought Brendan was in the second.
8:30 i haven't seen this movie since i was a child, but the amount of times a week i'll still go "awk awk, eek eek, tookie tookie!"
Journey to the center of the earth with nerd Brendan Fraser next 😏
This and Shrek were the only things my dad put on for me as a kid.
For me, it was little mermaid and wizard of oz!
18:37 In case you're wondering, the background music is "I am Trouble" by Molly Hemsley. It's also public domain, no need to worry about copyright.
Casual racism is casual
I mean, Brendan Fraser was only 30 when he shot this film, so him being 25 in the movie isn't much of a stretch.
When I was young, I saw this movie so many times because both me and my dad looooved it so much. Thanks for the nostalgia blast lmao
I think it was a year or two after this that Brendan Fraser starred in "Blast From the Past", in which his character literally grows up in a bomb shelter. It also stars Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek, and Alicia Silverstone.
Yes, much better movie. That character got to keep his clothes on and have a brain.
The appeal to this film is fit Brendan Fraser naked and oiled up. He was so my gay awakening I swear to whatever god is listening.
LMAO everyone does love a himbo I feel attacked
and oh my GOD your hair is so good in the natural light where the blue shows best. Holy shit I love it.
LOL if you're talking about during the ad, I redyed my hair!! 😂
@@SophiaPhannn this is the downside to commenting live instead of post video. I realized it at the end lol. But it looks so good!
13:37
One of my favorite jokes in the movie!
😁
Now comes the part where I throw my head back and laugh!
🤣
*throws head back and laughs*
What IS it about movies like this or Not Another Teen Movie that are constantly explaining the joke, and yet extracting so much good humor out of it??
I liked your Turning Red era for the vibrance but I love the way the blue contrasts with your skin. Living art 🥰💖✨️
Leslie Mann’s voice is S-Tier precious.
Sophia, let me just say two things:
1) you’re a natural stage and screen presence with an angelic voice and an endearing personality, and
2) I’ve watched and rewatched George of the Jungle since I was a kid in the 90’s, and I still love it as open of Brendan Fraser’s best cinematic works ever!!
I always think of Leslie Mann as URSULAAA
I love that his earlier movies had funny cheesy narrators Dudley do right is my favourite
I wanna look like Leslie Mann in this, and Brendan Fraser breaks gender norms in this. We love iiiiiiiiiiit. 👍👍👍💅
George of The Jungle was my everything as a kid, so many sayings and inside jokes still going strong from it with my sister.
It's also the first time I hear it not dubbed and it's interesting to see the differences, the "that woman is a pain in the ass" line of the dad in my country was "If I k.lled her in time I've gotten out by now"
I absolutely love that "I've been waiting for you all my life" song....Probably in my top 40 all time favorite songs....
George is such transition goals, himbo with femboy elements would be ideal
I think about the "Awe VS Ooo" bit at least once a week.
i watched this movie a bunch of times in my teenagehood. i knew it’s stupid and not funny, but i watched it. now i know why - half-naked brandon frazer. also the theme song is banger
WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE 🌴
Aaaahhh!
*splat*
The only scene I could clearly remember (i must have seen the movie as a kid once) was Brendan with the horses, which makes so much sense haha
I loved this as a kid because it was like a living cartoon. And then I loved it as a teenager for...other reasons.
Yep, the man starved himself for this role. This is not his true body type.
One of my personal favorites as a kid and on a scale of 1 to 10 I rate your reaction with a, "aah aah ee ee tookie tookie!"
17:50 Fun (and true) Story: I used this technique on phone scammers. Never got a phone call from them again...
*throws head back and laughs*
I forgot that Peter Dinklage (from Game of Thrones) appears in this movie... he's one of the suspects.
WAIT I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE
@@SophiaPhannn it's in the 15:17
16:30 Overlooked with the jungle _girl_ trope, too.
brendan fraser is so fire in this
I absolutely forgot about this movie and loved it so much as a kid. I need to rewatch because just from this reaction it's just funny and way too goofy, But the thing is I never forgot tooky tooky. I still randomly say that 20 years later
13:45 it was hilarious because the video is sped up. Maybe that's why this video is so funny to me. The timing is way different
I enjoyed the PSA about taking care to wash the half naked dude you find in a jungle. Kind of a niche audience for that message though 😂. Very true, as you say a walking UTI.
LOOOL it's literally the first thing I think of when I see tarzan 😂😭
How dare you imply you can be too old to enjoy a kids movie it’s just still fun😸😸😸
I think "George of the Jungle" was created purely for the female gaze lol. Now, I understand why I loved this movie. I was probably 7 or 8 and had a major crush on Brendan Fraser.
Yes he starved himself to look like a Skinny ken doll. (his normal body type is not like this at all, but more like a Teddy Bear). He said the lack of nutrients messed with his brain and he couldn't think clearly. Glad he did that so females could drool over him like he was some object. 🙄
I have a crush on George of the Jungle!
ahh this movie is such corny fun xD George truly is the OG himbo!!! (also gotta say I LOVE how you style your hair! how do you get such fabulous curls with dyed hair? the only thing I use for my own dyed hair is those no-heat curlers, Im way too scared to damage it with a curling iron ;; )
"Here comes the part were we throw out heads back and laugh."
Ready?
*throws head back and laughs*
I said it in another comment but you should definitely watch Airheads with Brendan, Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi. They play dumb rockers trying to get their music heard and it's hilarious!
...and women say MEN objectify...
You’re right. Tons of women objectified Brendan in this movie. The man said he basically starved himself to look like that too. Wonder what women would say if a man was going on about a woman who basically starved herself for a roll. 🙄
I am a woman as well, but could never bring myself to watch this. This is demeaning Brendan is so much better than this/
Love this video and also LOVE BRENDAN. The Brenaissance is rising and our sweet king deserves the accolades
Watch Encino Man. It came out in 1992. He plays a caveman frozen in ice who is then thawed. Also starred Paulie Shore and Sean Astin. It’s fun and silly. They’re all adorable.
And Bredan didn’t starve himself for the part. I love that movie too. ❤
I think about the "java java java java java" scene, *often*.
I fully forgot about the animated part in the beginning of this movie and I watched this movie a lot when I was a kid/young person lol
It’s based on Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon. It’s supposed to be cheesy.
I LOVE this movie! It's hilarious!
*Throws head back and laughs*
And, Brendan Fraser, *swoons*
George of the Jungle is perfection.
The sequel does not exist to me. PERIOD.
To anyone who hasn't seen it, don't. Ever.
2:52 yeah when you stop and think about it, there are a bunch of drinks with somewhat problematic names 😅
Soon to be Academy Award Winner Brendan Fraser. Let's see if this comment either ages like wine or ages like milk.
i forgot this movie existed ✋🏽
The main tour guide is played by Richard Roundtree, who dad says is related to us.
