You can't help but feel for these characters who suffered because of one woman's betrayal. Clive and Jill may see themselves as monsters but to me they're just victims forced in situations that they had no control over. Their actions under coercion may have painted them as monsters but their hearts never became that of monsters.
It’s ironic that all Annabella wanted was power, but had she just been a loving mother, then she would’ve had Ifrit, The Phoenix and Shiva at her side.
I have literally no personal reason for why the part where Clive has to convince his uncle he's real would emotionally affect me, but it did absolutely get to me. The next-level face animations in this game really drives it home with Byron's reaction too. Beautiful scene.
Byron's tone of voice is what sells this scene. And I will not lie: it made me emotional. He was more than willing to commit bloody murder to preserve his memory. But seeing him drop his guard entierly when faced with his own and breaking down when Clive proves that he is indeed Clive is what got me. The man loves his nephew and it shows.
And just imagine his even greater joy upon learning that Joshua had survived as well. And that Clive's lovely young companion here was none other than Jill. That while his elder brother may be long gone, both of his sons, and the girl who would have likely become his daughter-in-law one day are all very much alive and in good health (particularly considering the things they'd each had to endure just to survive), and that despite how events tried to tear them apart, they had all somehow found each other again. And then add to that the revelation that both Clive & Jill were Dominants themselves! That should Rosaria ever be restored with Clive, Joshua, & Jill at the helm, that Rosaria would now have the power of three Eikons to defend her. It's a miracle the man didn't have a heart attack from the excitement alone! XD
judging by the voice. this most likely the same one who voices lord fortemps in ff14 heavensward.. short before he past.. as this character is voiced by two dudes due to the first dying. Dude in ff14 was epic very much a uncle character to us.. and one of few rare cases of a noble lord of high standing accepting his "bastard" child as his own, and even instilled to his ligitimate childen he is most definately their brother. both characters were fan favs during that expac and when the actor dyed... a week+ long vigil took place game wide. happy to hear this was one of his last credits prior to passing as i adore this character

It’s the sense of humor that comes with Byron’s character, I think. I had the same thought as you, actually. I can all too easily imagine the 16-bit sprite version of this scene ala FF4-6 in my head.

It's beautiful because for so much of the game up to this point, you mostly see Clive scowling and serious. Occassionally he has a stern nod or kindness when dealing with others. But in this moment you see...Clive. Just. He's being himself. He's being teased by his uncle, he's watching someone he loves dearly goof around. He's finally safe and he's enjoying it. It really cuts away and sense of him being an edgy and detached hero who's too cool to smile. He's absolutely willing to jump into a scene from a play he loved to prove himself.
It's amazing. A character you just met one you barely just heard of, with the motion capture and voice acting you get so much raw human emotion displayed that you can't help but fully sympathize with. This moment is very good.

The voice acting and just how well the character was written... very few lord character fully accept bastard children in media.. but he LOVED AND ADORED hauchefaunt... and not only fully accepted him as his son, but made sure his legitimate children saw him as an equeal brother... that his transgrestion was his fault and only his.. and fullt accepted it... and taking us in simply because his son adored us just priceless.. happy to see he voiced such a similar character. Byron comes off less like a lord and more the fat and happy uncle you can turn too who rightly spoils you with love and gifts who willing to get down in thr dirt and play with you... hell if clive was a girk... i see him dressing up in a ladies garment to play tea parties. rip dude you really brought such fan fav characters to life.

@@GamerXZ0 According to Ralph Ineson, Cid's VA, all the English voice over work for the game was done 3 years ago. Stephen Critchlow, Byron/Edmon's VA, died 2 years ago. So this is likely one of, if not his final role.
Up to a point - I think his last scene is the one before they go to Dalamil, and then it switches to someone else (Ewan Bailey) who does a smashing job of carrying on the role.

It says so much about Clive's character that he is willing to throw off his tough-guy schtick to please his uncle (which ironically makes him more of a chad). It also shows a lot of depth to his character.
I like the detail of Jill becoming depressed only after Byron jokes by saying they are gonna pillage some villages. The amount of shit the Ironbloods must have put her through is insane.
This scene is amazing for so many reasons, but the details in both voice acting and animation is what really sells it. The attention to animation detail of body language in some scenes reminds me of the new God of War games. I just love the slight adjustment Clive does to his left leg as he begins to act, he appears so confident and sure of himself, but just from the unnecessary adjustment of his stance you can tell he is actually very self conscious - a classic acting mistake.

In a game filled with darkness and tragedy, it amazes me how scenes like this shine bright.
When they make that transition from current appearance to the last apperance you remember, you know damn well things are about tonget emotional.

The reunion between Clive and his uncle is one of my favorite scenes in the entire game and I absolutely cried the first time I saw it🥺
