Dear Elsa, thank you so much for this vid. I've been trying for ages to work out how to play my very old German zither and how to tune it. Couldn't find any books anywhere. Now at least I can get it in tune!
    Best Wishes,
    Black Jake of Norwich.

I can't thank you enough for the help your website and videos give me. I never learned music theory, so I was totally lost on how to tune my zither. I finally landed on your channel, and your diagram is just what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I wish you the best. Take care of you ! ♡

Glad my website was of help. I created it as a hobby because 40 years ago I was struggling here in Australia to find any help with my zither, the computer can be so much help.Have a look at my
CZcams channel "zithergirl" where I post simple folksongs during this Covid time, you might be able to copy the melodies. Cheers from very hot Sydney

Thanks Tim. Forgot white letters but smiled. 20 years ago
I spent a week with friends in a little village in the Snowy Mts. A variety
concert was arranged for the final Sat. night. Practiced zither during the day, but could not tune properly, sounded aweful.Late afternoon I tuned again and Korg tuner went silent, flat batteries. Tried to buy new batteries; every shop, petrol station shut. Total surprise coming from the big city with almost 24/7 trading. Tuned manually ok.
    Good zithering Ilse

Thank you Elsa, I have restored 2 old concert (32 strings) zithers and found your tuning video very helpful as you call out the notes whilst tuning. Wishing you the best.

@@ilseharris4434 Hi again, Ilse, I play guitar so have a fair notion of the circle of fifths. I am slowly learning to play the zither. Of course, the right hand fingering is very tricky at the moment and the fretboard notes are different from the guitar but I get the idea. Thanks for your reply, regards, Hans.

Thanks for sharing this. I found a zitter at the antiques store and bought it. That certainly helps me find my way into playing it.

Hi, thanks for sharing those videos. I recently became the owner of two zithers. One is similar to yours and I use these videos to figure out how to tune them. But the strings are really very old and I do not know where I can find new strings. I play guitar and have many used strings. Shall I use them, or would you recommend a sales person / company? (Oh, I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) Many thanks for your response in advance.

Hi! i was wondering if you knew anything about the violin zither, my granny just inherited one, and neither of us know how to play this sort of instrument. We just got back from the music shop, and they suggested going to a musician that is about 500 km away (not happening anytime soon for sure) so for now im looking online with little sucess. Any suggestions on how to learn to play the interesting instrument? thanks - kat

    Hi Kat,
Check out youtube "violin zither" I posted my short video of the demonstration I saw in Switzerland in Aug.o9. Bow played with right hand, Chords strummed with a ring on left thumb.I would guess that the acc.strings are tuned like the
chord zither, each chord bunched together.
    cheers
    zithergirl.
