fun fact Isabel I stablished the Spanish Inquisition but Isabel II abolished it
Except The Amazing Spiderman 2 everything that comes in second is shit
“The ability to turn world history into a collection of portuguese crossover episodes” that is sooo Portugal xD 🇵🇹
"The only way east was weest." Liked.
The best PIN for a phone (or anything with 4 digits) is 1478, because no hacker expects the Spanish Inquisition
As I am from Spain, I´m used to expecting the unexpected, so this came as no surprise.
I saw past your lies.
As a latinamerican I saw his bs really fast, like your people decimated us how? Miscigenation is a form of mass murder now? Those anglos dude xd
@greg polhemus I read about what de las Casas wrote in his first work about the Conquista de Las Indias.
But you need to read about the Leyes Nuevas of King Carlos V before using what de las Casas wrote, because the Leyenda Negra Española is not a good source to use in this kind of historical event.
@greg polhemus 50 years after the Reconquista is not a long time, taking the british and the dutch as example we are talking about a difference of centuries, between the actions of the crowns. That only proves the urgency that the Spanish Crown had in abolishing slavery, not their neglicence. And if the time lapse is a matter of fact we both as persons who understands how geopolitics work we know that even they having absolute power over the Empire they can't just write a royal order like that an expect almost no protest over it.
And about the laissez faire point, it will be ignorant of any part to deny that, but the point that we're missing here is that the spanish working class had to apply to the same system as the indian people too, nobody was spared.
And I don't know where people got the idea that Bolivar had popular support in his campaign agaisnt the Spaniards, he never had a massive or even considered popular support, he in reality had the support of the oligarchies, masons who wanted to take control over the lands that the Spanish Crown and Native Noblemen were ruling, as an example, Bolivar had to invade the Viceroyalty of Peru and forced them to become independent because the peruvians didn't wanted to separate from the Spanish Crown, and Peru wasn't the only country who didn't liked the idea of independence, the region of Venezuela never liked Bolivar too, in fact in the exact time he began to became weak they fled from Gran Colombia. It sounds like a conspiracy theory talking about masons wanting to take over The Americas, but if you read the archives you will see that they had a key parcipation in the independence wars.
And if we as native people were really decimated by them, don't you think that our countries would have a predominantly white population instead of a predominantly mestizo population? We were not massacred by the Spaniards, instead we were assimilated by them, unlike the anglo-saxons who really based their conquests on massacring and re-locating entire native populations. The Spaniards had miscegenation as a cultural and political duty, that ensured an stronger union among the people and consequently a kingdom more united and stable for the Crown to maintain.
And what a surprising coincidence because I'm a paraguayan teacher too xd I don't think that she's biased or something like that, to be fair we all began reading what the Ministry of Education gave us to study, but is in our hands the duty to investigate and find more data about historical facts, probably she's biased in her sources because friend she can't say that there's no proof about what is bs and what is true about our continental history, if you think that calling wrong our country's name is already bad just try to be apologetic with Brazil on the Triple Alliance War, probably she will even jump on you and all lol.
@greg polhemus It's all just a matter of indulging more about certain historical events.
Not trying to be the devil's lawyer, I just don't support an unjustified hate agaisnt our founding fathers, we can blame them for the diseases maybe since that tragic event cost a lot of innocent lives (Even with the fact that they would eventually get exposed to those diseases as soon as they began interactions with the outsiders such as commerce for example).
Don't get your teacher wrong, me and a few others are just a (growing) fraction of the educated people who admits the injustice that the spanish kingdom is suffering from us, the fact is that we paraguayans hate everyone and every single neighbor we have, from Brazil to Bolivia, from Israel to Palestine, no one escapes, probably because the only interactions we had with outsiders was trough wars. Hate is a form to demonstrate our patriotism.
There's a mistake in the video. Constantinople was still called this way (well, a local variant) until the modern state of Turkey, in the early XXth cent, where it was changed to the current Istanbul
+siegward of catarina Oh shoot, you're right, I remember seeing something about how the name change happened. My bad!
Formally and oficially yes. Most of the ottoman people just called Istambul anyways.
Konstantinoupolis (Greek) or Konstantiniyye (Turkish) are probably the names you're talking about
Istanbul just means the city its like people living near big cities calling it "the city"
Isn't she the mother of Catherine of Aragon? And grandmother to Mary Tudor?
I have my family tree somewhere. Need to check my notes. All I remember is King Ferdinand (fernando) and Queen Isabel of Aragon are my 27th great grandparents.
0:00 i didn't expect that
Jo Jonathon from the Jojo lands // NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION
Well, their chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and scary red uniforms. Yes, their two main weapons are surprise, scary red uniforms, and a fanatical devotion to the Pope. Their three main weapons...
You were not expecting the Spanish Inquisition, but it was me! DIO!!!
*Irritating Nerd Voice* Actually the Inquisition had to give 30 days notice of their arrival, so everyone saw them coming.
Alfonso, Enrique & Isabel’s Bro, never married Joan la beltraneja, nobles simply told him to usurp the throne . When he died they asked isabel to do the same and she didint. But after two marriage and a long time of the king being married to Joan of Portugal, it was widely believe that Joan la Beltraneja was not the king’s daughter, hence isabel fought for what she believe was her right.
Oh Capitan Portugal! He should have an entire video just for him.
can you make video about Caligula? Roman ceaser for only few years but partied like hell, won a fake war, was batsh*it crazy about wanting to be god and made horse to be senator
+Niklas Rantanen Oh yeah, there are plenty of stories surrounding Caligula, all very entertaining! I have a few concerns since I remember there being some uncertainty over how much his antics were made up or exaggerated and he's fairly well known for being crazy. That said, it's hard to ignore depraved youths given ultimate power, so I may someday return to Rome for one nutty emperor or another.
@@JackRackam
It is pretty much just later propaganda. For example the horse thing wasn't Caligula being crazy but rather Caligula giving the senate a middle finger during their power struggle.
The kazoos at the end was warranted. :D
This is so well done and a delight to watch.
Man, every joke on the video had great timing and was so funny!
Alkibiades is an amazing historical person that you should totally do
'Nobody is perfect', truer words have never been said.
Oh Charles V, always keeping his neighbors from having nice things to suit his own wants and needs. Those Hapsburgs, I tell you, it's like they WANTED the world to hate them.
And they also had that weird 'stopp-complaining-and-just-marry-your-cousin' thing going on
So just found this channel earlier today and I have now watched 9 episodes ...... I am not ashamed here take my subscription
"Now Isabella, and Ferdinand I guess..." So much better than any source that says something about the king and his wife.
I never understand what your standing but it’s weirdly relaxing to watch your videos, lol 🤷🏼♀️
One of the best channels on youtube hands down
I had no idea the life of James T. Polk was so interesting. Or fucking Spanish.
This is the best history channel
Huh, you really did put the music in the description. Neat!
Always expect to be unexpectedly expecting.
A lot of useful fun. Great job.
In my personal opinion I think Ferdinand of Aragon is an interesting king as well and is too often overshadowed by his wife.
Because Castile had five times the population (more taxes) and thrice the territory of Aragon (more resources). The conquest of Naples (an Aragonese ambition) was funded chiefly by Castilian taxes, admitted even by Ferdinand. The conquest of Navarre was also a Castilian enterprise. Columbus’ expedition was paid by Castile.
Also remember Isabella came to the throne during troubled times. And immediately after she died, there was a succession crisis before Ferdinand managed to take control again. For her contemporaries, she brought a long period of stability that cracked after her death. Of course Ferdinand restored order, but he was mere regent and remarried and thereby risked the Castile-Aragon union (even after Castile paid for all those wars despite not gaining from it), so he was accepted but still not “la reina neustra senora.”
god damn that was a good bait
She gets to be the air hahaha Man your videos are just too much for me to deal with, there's a really good pun every 3 seconds. And then you fly through subjects at breakneck speeds too, I'm not smart enough to keep up. Like when there's a picture of a pickle. In the time it takes my brain to stop sheepishly grinning at that the story's progressed sixteen chapters.
"We almost had them boys" *sigh's in first maritime Empire 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
Ps: Afonso V of Portugal actually had an insane reign as well, conquered most of Morocco and forged one of the most powerful armies in Europe (that's how Portugal annihilated Castille, they were saved by the French later in the war). All the while expanding the Empire in the Indian Ocean and Africa, absolute Madman i tell you.
Since you did a video on Isabel I, then go for Juana La Loca! Or Hernán Cortés? Why not any of the Aztec tlatoanis, especially Moctezuma II Xocoyotzin and Cuauhtémoc?
Is it just me or did he just make 'They might be giants" reference at 4:08. If he did then I just love him even more!
Your definitely one of the best history channels, you should make a video on Ardashir I
4:06 I finally get the reference in case your wondering it is the song
Instanbul (not constanople)
Isabella having a butch voice cracked me up.
I want to let you know that the dude dressed as an Italian noble on the left at 0:45 is Luciano Verzola, owner/operator of a historic tailoring company MedievalDesign. He probably won’t give a crap about copyright, but he’d appreciate anyone giving him business!
Great video's! Always nice to see more behind the reason we Dutch were in the "spice wars" with Portugal so much, and why we all hated Spain.
My ancestors are from a royal line of Aragon, but moved to the Netherlands centuries ago. So I have a little love for both sides XD
what about spanish civil war or the italian unification ?
I was not expecting that intro.
Well I certainly didn't expect Isabel of Aragon
great video
But now you have to do a video on Polk!
+Kinetic History I'm not sure anyone would trust me, but I'll do it anyway!
just notice you used the picture of Thai Court wall with graffiti. lol
"The only way to go east was weast."
Was that a Patrick Star reference?
Seriously, is the narrator a speed freak? 😂
And breathe...
Was expecting a more James Polkish video, but still interesting regardless.
That was great! An other good one thank you!!
FWIW Potosí is not exploited as for... like the 70's
Germs, who knew the damage they'd cause....
When you didn’t realize how interesting this time was until you were apart of a one act play that’s takes play at this time,(Mariner by Don nigro
I feel betrayed.
Sublime
Can anyone follow this? Was he rushed for time? I like my information at a normal speed, thanks.
I didn't expect thet!
What's the deal with the map you use in this video? Is there any reason the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ethiopia's borders are so much fainter than the rest?
+Inquisitor Thomas No particular reason. In hindsight I probably should have made all the land green and removed the borders entirely, both to fix that and to avoid modern borders representing the world in the late 15th century. Whoops!
3:18 the almohads were overthrown more than 200 years before isabella rose to power
1:37 Me: "Seems about right."
2:48 love the Thai Anarchy Joke lol
ถูกใจคนไทย55
Wow... hahaha brilliant!
1:24, Isabella was arranged to Edward IV?
that title
4:07 what’s with the weird borders around the Czech Republic and Slovakia? Edit: 4:13 and Ethiopia?
🗣Who's next ?
It was not expected
Anyone recognize the megumin hat at 3:47
Wait Joanna does she rant
"I didn't expect any sort of Spanish Inquisition." (Watch that episode of Monty Python: Flying Circus, guys. Seriously it's hilarious)
Technically the Inquisition just changed its name and still lives on as the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. Also, the inquisition didn't often torcher people but when it did, it was not as brutal as it is said and the things admitted had to be confirmed when the subject was no longer under duress.
Actually the Inquisition was active into the 1870s (see the Mortara affair) and it never went away, the Vatican just changed its name to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which is still very much active today, but sticks strictly to theology.
0:20 it’s not “and orthodoxy” subtitles, it’s “unorthodoxy”.
Funny video. Now I know a little more about this queen.
👑RÍOS FAMILY 👑 it refers to the ROYAL HOUSE OF ASTURIAS where the RÍOS👑 last name most likely originated from.👑.
I did not know he was a she *angry mob banging at my door*
1:23 is that the guy from the war of the rouses?
+Christos Goulios It is! Edward IV and Richard III were both under consideration as possible marriages, but those plans fell through a lot earlier in the process than most of her other potential husbands. Kind of an interesting "What If" scenario / cameo, though.
I love it
The Monty Python references 😂😂
Rack Jackam world super power by 2020
nice
As a side note, the Ottomans, who had just taken Constantinople, were more than happy to take Jews fleeing from Spain (and of course Muslims) since the city had been on decline and they wanted to make it important again.
Question why do nobles and kings try to married off their children at the age of six and seven? It's that a little weird!
Political gain + marriages dont happen when they're 6 or 7, as they're too young for that, and instead get married at around 14-16 when they come of age.
@@MS-yv9rt They're Betrothed very young but consummation is off limits till like 16-18
SHES MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GRAND-MOMMY!
I'm sure you don't have hispanic blood, you don't speak the language of Castile, so she is not your greatx10 grandmother.
1:23 *wot henry VI why are you here with edward III* oh wait i have a question……Henry VI tried to marry isabela before he was married to marie of anjou?
+Kᖴᑕ ᑎᑌGGETᘔ Edward III Edward IV and Richard III were briefly considered as potential husbands for Isabella, but not very seriously or for very long
Yeah when I was SIX!😂😂😂
Ur better than the history channel
Who is the guy at 1:30 the one with the blue thing
That would be Charles, Duke of Berry, Normandy, and Aquitaine, younger brother of King Louis XI
Captain Portugal
Loving deep voiced Isabella 😶🌫️😂😂😂
It was never 100% certainty that Princess Juana was Enrique's daughter. Was there something that confirmed it?
No and it only got worse when Princess Joanna's mother had twins that were definitely not Henry's. The queen was a notorious adulteress.
2:16 I see what you did there
Nobody expects Spanish Subtitles!!
Fun Fact: Everyone expected the inquisition. The Spanish crown would inform those to be persecuted weeks in advance, mostly so that they would be able to prepare a defense for themselves.
they also were informed of the inquisition so that they could start walking out of spain.
