- Episode 175. This blend is very affordable in my market and if you are looking for a well rounded Scotch, this might be the bottle for you. I can't say it's amazing, but I can say it disappeared far quicker than it had a right to! Have you tried it? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

Thanks for doing a standard blend! I recently worked through bottles of regular Dewar's and Famous Grouse for educational purposes but geniunely liked both. The Dewar's 12 sounds like a solid step up and is definitely on my shopping list. Cheers!

The 1st Scotch I ever had and the one that started my appreciation for Scotch. To this day I grab it from time to time.

24 bucks? Is that before or after taxes? At the LCBO in ontario that bottle goes for 50 bucks (LCBO prices include taxes) wow what a great price! I've had Dewar's regular blend and it was pretty good. I'll have to grab this one day when it's on sale. Hope everything goes well for you and your family Jon. I've been really lucky with my job. (Medical supplies warehouse) nothing has really changed for me and mine.
Good to hear you are doing well. I shouldn't really complain either. I have a job offer and that is fortunate in this economy! I can't believe the price here either. Really, at $24 before tax, this is a no-brainier. Easy to have on the shelf.
Hmm, the Dewar's 12 is a bit steep here at $49, but for some strange reason the 21 is only $60 which comparatively is a better buy. Hope your work situation pans out and thank you for another excellent review.

In early August 2023, a bottle of the 12 y.o. costs $33 in Virginia.
'Whisky Advocate' magazine rated the
12 y.o. whisky at #4 in their rankings of the top 20 whiskies of 2022.
I saw that ranking, impressive! It is a good blend for me too, and still affordable. Cheers!

I have heard that a few times in comments now. It would be tough for me to recommend at $50, but even a small sale to $40 would make it interesting. It's not going to blow anyone's mind, but I would suggest it is an OK dram and certainly easy to drink. Take care.

I got it on sale at 30 here in Edmonton that I’m happy with. At 50 I’d get Glenmorangie or Abelour first.

My Dewars 12 disappeared alot faster then I was expecting as well. I found it a great pour if I was looking for a scotch and didn't want anything too complicated. I try to keep one on hand because if someone feels they need some coke or ginger ale in theirs, I won't get upset over it. Hmm, I'm going to have to A/B this with black bottle.
Let me know how the A/B goes. I have yet to pick up black bottle but I hear good things.
Looking to add a blended Scotch to the mix and many recommended this over Chivas. Mainly because of its consistency.
I prefer this to, but keep expectations modest

Thanks for the support. It's always hard to be let go. Even if it is not personal, it feels that way. For this Scotch, I was completely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Not that it had any real high points, but it also had nothing wrong with it and became an easy dram to relax with. Cheers!
Hey I tried a speyburn 12 year single malt, 30$ here and it got nutty and interesting after about 2 months open. I've got one of these back of the cupboard for a long time I will have to revisit it.

I just picked up a 1.75 liter bottle of the Dewar's 12 year old at Costco for $39.99 (US). I have been looking for a decent economical blend to help make my single malts last a lot longer. I can't afford to drink the $60 to $100 bottles every day. I have struck out on finding a low priced scotch blend that is decent in my opinion. Usually short on flavor and aroma and long on alcohol burn. Usually, I stick to bourbons at this price level, since I seem to find more quality as compared to scotch whisky at the same prices. But I decided to give this one a go when I saw it at Costco. I think I remember this one used to go for around $60 for the 1.75. So I am wondering if Bacardi might have cut some corners to make it cheaper and thus more competitive. I have been drinking a lot of cask strength malts lately (I started out as a bourbon drinker, and so 100+ proof whiskey is kind of typical), and so switching to this was rather underwhelming at first. But I have spent several days with this to reacclimate my taste to the lower proof. It won't become a favorite, but it is actually rather pleasant and inoffensive. Sometimes, something light and low key is what the doctor ordered. I did not get much of the alcohol fumes that I have tasted and smelled in some other low priced blends, and though the flavor and nose are very light, it is quite nice for what is there. If it stays at this price level, I may keep a "jug" of it around for the time being, until I find a better equally affordable blend (or malt).
I know what you mean about letting your palate adjust back down to lower proof whiskey. I'm glad this turned out OK for you. Not going to replace really strong single malts, but not bad for me. Thanks for sharing your journey!

I find this dram really remarkable even if it wasn't such great value. I hadn't seen it b4 and it was on sale so I grabbed it. After I went back to get another bottle on sale, had to at that price. Blended scotch I find often is evasive when trying to describe. It's like there's a hint of everything? I remember I hadn't had Johnnie red in a long time. I had some and was like hmmmm. It tastes like...I tastes like...well. Scotch.
Lol! I can relate. As I move through different bottles there are definately some that taste like .. Scotch or Bourbon. Kind of classic, yet also unremarkable. I enjoy Dewar's though and have really liked their 8 year old "smooth" series.
Please tell ingredients, hope its not malt only
There are way too many whiskies in here to know. From Whisky Advocate "started with a blend of 40 aged single malt and grain whiskies aged in a combination of refill casks, first-fill bourbon casks, and sherry casks, and that continues to be the case."

Still a great price for a 12 year old in my opinion! Prices fluctuate though , so I'm not surprised it is a little different.
I add a bit of water to the 12, tastes smokier. First time with this, easy drinking for sure. Very nice blend, I still rate JWB higher.

I know this might be heresy, but I'd love to try this dram with like 25% peated scotch like Laphroig. I'm just getting into peat.
I think that woudl be worth a try for sure. I liked what the Mezcal finish did to their 8 year old by adding a bit of smoke and roasted herb. A bit of peat here would be interesting!
$24.95 are you serious??? What province do you live in? Here in Ontario this costs double that!
Alberta. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Like, at that price, unless I'm chasing a specific style, it's a fantastic deal!! That price is the regular price at the local Costco here in St. Albert. Crazy
Thank you for sharing Jon, With my limited experience being critical to the Whisky's and Whiskey's that I drink adding water to 40% ABV the less the better and I will be looking to try some Dewar's 12 & 18 year old which are available here in Vancouver but not the 21 year old and if I could be so impertinet to ask what do you teach?
I have taught a variety of classes over the years, mostly high school science. However, I have been a principal or central office now for 10 years. Do you teach?
Whisky Neighbour I am now retired from the Vancouver School Board where I spent 29 years as a building engineer finishing up as the chief at U-Hill Secondary but I am much happier retired and singing and learning the guitar.
If you could ever find an older bottle of the Dewars 12 in the blue cardboard box and a squat bottle there is a definitive difference between those and the new one. Cheers and yes the 21 is great stuff.

I had this scotch four years ago, and I remember it disappearing in no time flat... The 12, that is. I have never seen the 21.
The 12 is not special, but $25? it is an easy dram to pour.

This was a hard time for me, and you are right, so many during the pandemic, I feel we have turned a corner.
Although it has quite good mouth feel, but the taste is a bit thin and grainy. Dewars 12 priced about the same as Old Parr 12, Chivas 12, JW Black and Dimple 15 in my county. For me, these bottles are definitely better than Dewars 12.
Certainly agree that Dewars has a grainy quality to it. That said, it's almost half the price of the bottles you mention, except Chivas. I prefer this to Chivas, so I'm good with my notes here. Take care!

I personally prefer JW Black. More smoke, but Dewar's is creamier if that is what you are looking for.
