Every student, (16-62 y old) in what we call middle professional education is calling me and my colleagues by their first name. It’s the tone that matters. And I’m 61 y old in the Netherlands
I was a teacher, and let me tell you, I wouldn't have really cared if a student addressed me by my first name. In fact, they did a number of times, and I'd say, "yes, that's my name". I don't plan on going back into teaching. It can be quite demanding and, to be honest, being in that profession makes the years fly be, as though you are moving through your life rapidly.
I had three teachers who I knew away from school..one was only a couple years older than we were. We called them by their first names by mistake all the time. They never reacted like this!
