I was so confused and to why cloud stopped running like i kept trying to run but he wouldn't...then he went even slower until i realized "damn this superhuman fool is actually getting tired from stairs lmao"
Well, at least it isn’t as illogical as a superhuman who apparently couldn’t jump a buncha train or container obstacles, or jump to the other side between a train railroad when he and the two girls were forced to clear a path through the train graveyard rather than simply circumvent that.

EXACTLY!!! No loot or achievement almost made me uninstall lol. Especially when I figured out the reason Cloud wasnt running anymore, then slowly turned into a slow crawl. I would have been happy with a treasure box with one gil, just to acknowledge our commitment.

And the rate of their HP drop could be based on their stats and how much they run, meaning the player would have to relax the analogue stick so that Cloud doesn't get KO'ed for a game over on the way to the top? Oh and so that the player doesn't walk too slow, there could be a time limit that gets security on the stairs when the timer hits 0:00:00.

If you don't know, in the original, when you get to Shinra HQ, you had 2 routes to take. Either break in and fight your way to the top, or face Po's old enemy, stairs. I am so happy they kept that in the remake!

Plot twist: Barret's voice actor was actually on a stairmaster while doing his lines which makes the pains sound very legit
Now that I can believe.
I love how the devs absolutely did not have to put detail into this, but they went all they way with the party getting exhausted.
Tifa starts outpacing the two, takes a break partway through, and starts back up again. The “couldn’t hear you” interaction and the slight muffle to her voice also sells how far away she is, but that gets more labored further up.
Cloud is able to run up at the beginning, but it noticeably slows down on the stairs until he goes into a jog and a walk, trying to keep his pace. Cloud, being Cloud, really wants to get this over with.
If you walk near him, Barret’s animation looks like he skips parts of the stairs, then slows down to one stair step at a time. Barret is a lot more vocal and boy does he hate this.
And the music even starts to sound tired
the indicator for each player on which floor of stairs they are on is a nice touch ;p

she lighter overall, has likely built her endurance/stamina through martial art training, and doesn't carry heavy equipment on her, so it makes sense

Please keep in mind, climbing stairs for prolonged periods can become incredibly strenuous, as it uses muscles that you don't normally use. Even if you've got superhuman capabilities, it doesn't help much if you've been skipping leg day.

I just love how they show how much stronger tifa is physically, and the fact that cloud isn't a real soldier with real training.

Instead of distortion, I would've loved it if they made the band sound like they were getting tired. Like sounding slower, you hear some wheezing from the wind instruments, and so on.
A missed opportunity
By the end, the soundtrack is literally just all the band members coughing and gasping for air, with some of them actually being heard fainting and falling to the floor.
No, they nailed the effect really well. When you get panting like that, you can't hear pretty well, it's like even your ears are panting, making everything sound distorted like that, like under a bubble

Came for this stair-climbing scene, and came back very satisfied. Glad that not only the devs managed to keep this intact, but the characters talking during the climb just got much better(and while there's no VAs in the original(only dialogues), it's just as satisfying). Poor Barret lol 😂
