I think that Luna and Harry would've been a wonderful match. Harry is always so angst (for good reasons though) and Luna doesn't allow what other's opinions get under her skin which would help Harry a lot. Luna is able to show Harry a world where it's only the two of them can relate to (I'm sure there are others but in Harry's small group of friends, Luna is perfect). She introduces him to the thestrals, death (how they never left you), and how things that are lost always find a way back to you though not always in the same shape or way. I think with Harry's grounded personality and Luna's free spirit they would be a suitable match. And after Sirius died, Luna was able to get him to stop brooding and was worried for her. Luna is also the one that help Harry understand what death really is and they ended up having a deeper connection to one another. Harry didn't have this with anyone else. Luna was able to reach a part of Harry that he kept under wraps and shook him out of it helping him cope with reality
+Mikako Yorishiro I don't like Ginny with Harry to be perfectly honest I think that since she was just a superficial girl with a crush on the boy-who-lived and not harry himself. Even though she was possessed she had no long-term side affects and for a witch growing up in the wizarding world she is really....dim for better word. Who in their right mind would pour their heart into an enchanted book? Molly warn her about the evils of that alley right? So Ginny should've known better. I also disliked the sudden change Ginny went through over the summer (that apparently Harry never noticed until others started point it out to him) and became the most beautiful talented girl ever. If only there was some growth in their friendship I wouldn't mind as much but it came out of left field. Leaving me to believe that Molly suggested for Ginny to help Harry find love through potions. I'm all for character development but that was too sudden since Harry spent most summers with them it's kind of impossible for him to not notice changes like that. I also didn't like how Ginny broke up for idiotic reasons....and how it seemed that she was only with Harry because he was famous. I loved Ginny in the beginning, thought she was adorable but then when Harry's chest monster appeared it felt wrong in so many ways. Ginny became that popular cheerleader that every guy wanted to be with but nothing deeper came out of a relationship with her. It seemed very physically to me. Harry and Ginny had so many chances to grow but instead they spent their time in lust....

I think the problem is that people are getting so caught up in the movies, where the real personality of many of the characters (especially Ginny) are very subdued. In the books, Ginny has an actual personality that plays off of Harry’s quite well (supportive but cuts through his crap if he’s getting unreasonably moody). This personality is actually fairly similar to Hermione’s, but Ginny's a little more relaxed. Plus, I don’t get the sense Harry the spark of attraction for Hermione; we can’t know for sure if she felt it for him since we don’t read from her point of view, but she’s always been more of a reliable gal pal to Harry than a romantic option. She gives him advice on the girls he’s dating, tries to remove (for lack of a better term) potential cock-blocking threats...they really seem to be purely friends. That’s actually one of the things I like most about the book; it has a pair of friends of opposite gender that don’t feel a romantic connection (which is quite realistic as opposed to the usual, “lead male and female characters spend a lot of time together and therefore fall in love).
Agreed, Ginny's character was one of the biggest letdown of the whole movie franchise, and that's saying something considering all the plot holes they created and the fact that Bellatrix blew up in fucking confetti (still not getting over it).
Ginny from the book is beautiful, fiery, smart, and strong. She actually is very reminiscent of how Lily Evans must've been. Ginny from the movie is just, urgh. Visually she's EXTREMELY plain, far from the bombshell she's supposed to turn into, and I don't know whether I should blame the writers (of the movies), the directors, or the actress herself, but my GOD this is Bella Swan level of un-emotion and emptiness right there.

And I think a lot of people are actually projecting the actors onto the book characters in this whole Harry & Hermione saga! Even JK Rowling herself maybe? That's why people seem to feel it works better to have Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson together, rather than Rupert Grint and Emma Watson! It's not so much about Harry and Hermione as literary characters. More like a bloody Hollywood star couple!

Ron's character assassination was mainly due to Romione. And I am one of the person who don't understand why Ron tried to have a relationship with Hermione. He was a free spirit character. Why would he want to be with someone who is rather ambitious individual? And I would get a well developed characters if both of the ships doesn't happen.

I personally wanted Harry to be with Luna. Luna was observant, and tolerant, though she appeared to be 'Lunatic' to many people. She had an unknown world inside her mind, and, I am sure if JK Rowling thought about that, she could blend Harry's sensitivity with Luna's world. Luna had the perfect characteristics to have a ride on Harry's craziness, again at the same time, she would know when to pull the chain. For example, when everyone was paranoid to look for the Horcrux that could be easily concealed, Luna made harry to think about Helena Ravenclaw. Again, I have always appreciated the friendship between Harry and Hermione but never saw them as romantic couple, so I would have been very disappointed if Harry ended up with Hermione. No one talks about Neville, but Nevile could actually be a good partner for Hermione, not Ron. Neville is sensitive, and mature, and his personality developed in a positive way throughout the series. I think, his knowledge and Hermione's intelligence could go well together. And, about Ron, he is a free spirit, and deep down he is an innocent person, but, he didn't have the attributes that would go with Hermione.
And frankly speaking, from this video it is very clear that these commentators don't really have enough idea about the characters in the HP series! There comments about Luna, Neville and so on didn't make any sense to me. All these characters have deeper personality than what this video expressed.

They say Ron never won but in all the times they saved the day they all had parts to do and sometimes got separated to do different missions so with out Ron harry couldn’t have done it all like the chess part they needed to win but Ron was the only one who knew how to play and ended you taking the risk to get them through and in some part he saved harry and harry never treated him like a sidekick they worked together with different skills to get them throughf and when they had an argument in the tent they came back and forgot about it Ron was just a bit jealous even tho he knew hermonine wanted him but in the case of harry and hermonine Ron broke her hart a few times when he still knew about how she felt and never opened up publicly about his feelings in the short run Ron grew to be a strong character and a good choice but you think about the future the part harry had with her there was also a big connection that could’ve gone somewhere and I do see Ron having relationship problems later on but if that happened who would he get anyway

From reading the books I always thought Harry and Hermione would have gotten together there were so many things that refrenced to it not only in the books but the movies as well
Clara Harper most realistic relationships usually come out of nowhere. you can meet a beautiful girl/guy who is a complete stranger, talk about it and in a week you are dating. Unfortunately it doesn't really make for compelling story telling. In any case, the books really made the Hermione and Harry dynamic really platonic. The movies kind of tried to make it happen but that was only because of the screenwriter and the producer i think. They were big time self-admitted H/Hr shippers and so they kind of forced it on the screen especially in the latter ones.
The funny thing is that in the first couple of films they probably felt Ron and Hermione were the end game and so they had started to built up that way. The end of 2nd film made it really obvious even for someone like me who was like 11 at that time. Its just when the movie team got a little more power and were left alone did they start to push the relationship that wasn't really in the books.
Clara Harper i totally agree, to me in the sixth book all the relationship stuff started to just hit you in the face whereas before in the other 2-3 books it was never even mentioned or insinuated they could have at least started setting it up in the 3 or 4 book, to see the root all these relationships took.
+arfon5131 Are you sure you've read books 4 and 5 where they all started to have relationships already? Hermione gets angry at Ron because he only thought of her as a last resort. And Ginny always had feelings for Harry; first adoration in a more childish way - "Ginny. She's been talking about you all summer." - and later she can talk to him and at some point explains how she's been feeling. To me, this made more sense than a romantic relationship between Harry and Hermione.

Ginny had a crush on Harry, it was no more then puppy love. When he saved her from the chamber of secrets it seemed like brotherly love, the Weasley family had basically adopted them into their family, would you date your sister?
Same with Hermione and Ron, they were always fighting like siblings, I should know. I fight with my siblings the same way.

I used to agree in thinking that Hermionie should have ended up with Harry, but after going through my teenage years as the underdog who never wins, I kinda relate to Ron a bit more now, and the fact that he not only escaped the friend zone but also got the girl despite almost always being the third wheel just feels cathartic. So in the end, I'm glad on how it ended.
And as a side note, I feel like Hermionie ending up with Harry felt a bit predictable as in every trio of friends, the lead always ends up with the best friend leaving the third wheel friend in the dust. So I think this is more original.

Sometimes the underdog deserves to lose. Ron left them during the middle of a muggleborn genocide because he was having girl problems. He put his own issues over the lives of his two friends. Had they been captured, Harry and Hermione would've been tortured and killed. Yeah the locket made him moody, but you didn't see Harry or Hermione being the weakest link and leaving.
Additionally, relying on unpredictability for satisfaction is pretty shallow. A well done ending, no matter how predictable, is infinitely better. I didn't get that from that crap that served for an epilogue. There was no interaction between Hermione and Harry at all in the epilogue.

Anthony Stargaryen I've said it elsewhere but Ginny was more about the warmth, love and kindness of the Weasly family than just her looks. She represented everything Harry yearned for. Hermione was too much like him herself. They made great friends and battle partners. Like sister and brother. But they weren't a good romantic match. Ergo: that's why they both fell for a Weasly sibling!
And as for the SHREK analogy I'm mainly referencing the film versions. Although I do see what you mean. I would say that Harry wasn't really chasing Ginny just for looks. It's a slow burn realisation of his that he loves her in the books. Kinda sneaks up on him. ^^

The problem is that daniel radcliffe and emma watson have way more chemistry than emma watson and rupert grint and that there is missing a lot of plot in the movies, which would explain it.

If I had to choose between Ron and Harry for Hermione I'd pick Harry. *But* I actually prefer Draco for Hermione over anyone else. I always liked the idea of Draco redeeming himself and falling in love with the one girl he never expected to fall in love with and vise versa. Sometimes people fall in love with the person they would never in a million years believe they'd fall in love with. And that has always interested me. J.K. Rowling herself actually admitted that Draco was mean to Hermione because he liked her. My mother always used to tell me when a boy is mean to you it's because he likes you. ^.^

I have always liked this, too. I recently read a nice fan fiction with that as the plot, them actually meeting when they are older (about 5 years after The Battle of Hogwarts) and ending up falling in love.

Ron and Hermione were perfect! He keeps her from being such a prissy know it all and she makes him a better man, because he always tries his best for her. Leave them alone! And Harry and Ginny are awesome as well, she's been in love with him her whole life, he starts to really see her when she dates other boys, realizes he has feelings for her but has to deal with the whole best friend's little sister thing...perfect! When the trio arrive at Hogwarts in the last book, and Ginny sees them and nearly tackles Harry, Ron complains that he's her brother she hasn't seen in 6 months, someone comments, "She's got loads of brothers, but only one Harry". I loved that moment! And the pairings were the perfect way to keep them all together over time. Ron and Hermione become Harry ' s brother and sister in law, their kids are first cousins and share a set of grandparents, etc. If it had been Harry and Hermione, they would have likely drifted apart from the Weasleys over the years. The current ending makes them all family for real, Harry gets stand in parents, and that would be extra important after losing Dumbledore, Sirius, Lupin, etc. No, no, no, Ms. Rowling, you got it right the first time.

Sure its cliche but hey its a book. The Ron/Hermione thing started in the very 1st book....Ron hated he a little too much and their relationship grew and grew. Once Ron/Harry saved her from the Troll they were fast friends and feelings grow. In the books Harry sees it before either of them do he just doesnt mention it because he thinks it will make things weird. He never sees Hermione romantically....from the very beginning there is never a hint of him showing the slightest attraction to Hermione.

my opinion I prefer draco and hermione than ron and hermione :x this is my opinion; I almost never like the obvious pairing for the series which in this case is Ron and Hermione; (but also the same thing for Harry and Hermione), because for me I feel like JK Rowling took the easy route to pair up Ron and Hermione; again it would still be an easy route for Harry and Hermione to be a couple as well. I say it's an easy route for both of those couples because they already know each other, they grew up together and the watchers / readers expect them to be together. Romione and Harmony both seem to have that brother / sister relationship. I understand the series is about Harry and not Hermione; adding Draco and Hermione would have been a plot twist; but that is why I like Dramione; because they are not an obvious pairing and I like the pairings that are challenging. Dramione would have definitely been a challenge. The movies and books has hints of Draco and Hermione could have liked each other; for Draco's side if he really hated her then why did he warn Harry and Ron to hide Hermione about the death eaters in Goblet of Fire during the Quidditch World Cup, and in the Malfoy Manor scene in part 1 of Deathly Hallows he seems to be very conflicted and anguish is all over his face; that he wants to help her but he knows if he does it would just make the situation a whole lot worse. I do not know if this is a rumor or if its legit that JK Rowling said she at one point wanted Dramione and that Draco liked or has a soft spot for Hermione, but because of the prejudice he was never able express it and instead approaches her in a different direction by insulting her; she has also admitted on a DVD extra to Daniel Radcliffe that she planned on killing Ron off mid way of the series or during the war, it was either Ron or Arthur Weasley, but if she actually when through with it; imagine what would have happened. On Hermione's side in the Prisoner of Azkaban she was the only one who came forward and seemed genuinely worried when Buckbeak attacked Draco; in the Half-blood Prince she never once believed Draco was a death eater and she seemed worried about his health; she's also called him by his first name; Draco, whereas Harry and Ron always calls him by his last name Malfoy.
Dumbledore he was always one for house unity within Hogwarts; and personally i feel that Dramione would have been that perfect example of house unity. Them being together would have unified Gryffindor and Slytherin. A unity would also form between a muggle born witch / wizard and a pureblood who comes from Slytherin. If they did end up together; Hermione would have helped Draco overcome his prejudice ways and they would have been able to understand each other a lot more on where each person is coming from; Hermione's side as a muggle born, and Draco's side as a pureblood who grew up with a prejudiced family. Plus Draco has always had this whole mechanism of guarding himself because of how he was raised. Honestly out of the whole trio I think Hermione would be the first accepting and forgiving for how they were in school, she always believes that theres good in everyone including Draco (she did not once believe he was a death eater, or willingly became one). Having them together would also become a first step for the other Slytherins to accept muggle borns and that they are worthy to have magic. Now if Lucius is still prejudice even after the war; this would have given Draco a chance to stand up for himself and what he believes in; standing up to his father could also be a strength the he can get from Hermione.

-they bond essentially overtime harry is off doing his thing which is often (as his two supporting friend)

-she is already into him in the fourth book wanting to go to the dance together

I think if Hermione and Harry ended up together it would become a very stereotypical ending, and this gave it a lot of depth. Everyone expected Hermione and Harry to be together, and their issues would just make them stronger. Harry and Hermione should have been together. Not only was it the obvious choice, but I really feel like they had way better chemistry than Hermione and Ron. It really felt like their getting together came out of left field to me. To this day I still can't figure out where it started.
Harry and Ginny never made sense to me either, to start off, Ginny was the fangirl! You don't date your fangirls! Sure she got better about the fangirling as she went on, but that still leaves the whole Harry and Hermione had better chemistry thing. I don't even really recall Harry and Ginny spending that much time together outside major plot points, and even then... not really much to build on.
Should Ron have gotten a girl? Yes, absolutely, he'd earned it. I just never felt a connection like that between him and Hermione.

The main reason why I loved Hermione and Ron was because Ron came second in absolutely everything.
His mother wanted a girl instead of him, he wasn't the smartest, he wasn't the most attractive and he basically lived in his best friend's shadow. But despite all that he was loyal. He defended Harry, supported Harry and even put his life on the line for Harry.
Hermione was the only one who saw right through Ron and loved him for exactly who he was. They were polar opposites but they balanced each other in every way.
So yeah, J.K. could have gone with the textbook perfect couple but I love that she went the more realistic route.
Ron was second to everyone but Hermione, he deserved to get the girl.

Second, beauty is totally subjective. One person could find me pretty and another could find me absolutely hideous. It all comes down to the person and their taste. So I don't really understand why people feel the need to make comments such as yours.
You might see an extremely attractive girl and think she's with an ugly guy but does she feel that way? What about his character? A shitty personality is enough to turn anyone off.
You could get into a tragic accident and have your looks permanently altered. They really don't mean much in the grand scheme of things.
Third, you don't even know me. Assuming based off of a picture that I don't go for the "Ron Weasleys" of the world is pretty fucked up. I go for people who I'm attracted to on more than just a physical level. I don't have a type and I can find something physically attractive about anyone because there IS something beautiful about everyone.

No ginny was not portrayed justly in the movies. Ginny in the books was funny and a very chill and strong character, not to mention how she was always there for harry to ground him. Ginny was never awkward around harry since her crush on him "faded" after the second book. The movie portrays ginny's character as boring, lame, and awkward when she really is just the opposite of that
