The French must have really wanted Belgium not to win. Why else would Thomas Jordier stand in Lane 3 to get the baton in second place on the anchor leg? I wonder what the exact rules are on that

It's because the Frenchman was pushing wider and wider in the last 100m of the 3rd leg to keep the Belgian behind, so the guy receiving the baton had to shuffle out accordingly

The athletes waiting for the exchanges are assigned positions by the officials after 200m of the previous lap, so if your athlete is in fifth at 200m but gets to the line first, your receiver isn’t allowed to change position and would still have to be fifth from the inside of the track. Changing receiving position = disqualification, I think. This can make close races very messy as you can have people running in different directions as they approach the line and you often see runners who’ve just passed the baton bumping into each other or falling over.

      - 'French' is a nationality, not a race , and its not a nationality that is inherently defined by whiteness.
Same goes for Belgian or British.
      Get over it.
