Railfanning Southern Maine in July 2023 - Cumberland to Arundel

L053 crosses Route 9 as it returns from Danville with MEC 7518 leading LHF. 7-5-23
Amtrak 687 flies through Cooks as a doubleheader. 7-6-23
Amtrak 697 hauls through River Road as they knock down the automatic searchlight. 7-8-23
M427 with MEC 7605 leading rolls on by after meeting Amtrak at Surf.
M426 with CSXT 487 leading slows its way through Winnocks Neck as it approaches the controlled siding. 7-12-23
Amtrak 681 flies by the marsh running a bit late.
Amtrak 687 rolls alongside the sunset at Scarborough. 7-15-23
Amtrak 683 accelerates away from a speed restriction as it blows for some trespassers. 7-18-23
L063 with MEC 345 leading moves its way towards CPF-203.
M426 with CSXT 465 leading decelerates at it nears the interlocking. 7-19-23
Amtrak 686 rolls across the marsh. 7-21-23
Amtrak 683 flies towards Portland.
CSX W003 with MEC 7609 leading brings the Geometry Train across Cooks as it nears Rigby. They would wait for L056 to leave, and then they would back into the yard.
CSX L056 with MEC 514 leading notches up across Read Street.
CSX L077 with MEC 515 leading rolls through Falmouth Road with 4 cars from Brunswick. 7-24-23
Amtrak 686 flies through Riverside Street as it approaches Portland. 7-28-23
M427 with CSXT 8831 leading notches its way towards the downgrade to Rigby.

Nice! I’m glad CSX is assigning the AC44s to former Pan Am trackage as in my opinion those are very reliable and much better to see than Gevos all the time!

Thanks! Daylight trains can be hard to come by in certain parts of southern Maine lately. South (timetable west) of Rigby has been a toss up lately with freight activity being unpredictable. East of Rigby, on the other hand, typically has 1-2 eastbounds in the morning hours, as well as a westbound. There is also a local that serves industries in the Portland area during the day. There are some Facebook groups that may be helpful as well, though some of them are unfortunately set as hidden. Hope this helps!
