1989: "Son, your music is so noisy."
2020: "Dad, your music is so noisy."
True story
So true........
It makes me so sad to hear what the kids... MY kids included... consider music. Yes, my Dad hated "my" music... but damn... it was still MUSIC... raw and seeping with talent. My kids' music is so weak... computerized... and so far from "organic."
@@Hybrid_Pisces kids these days and their electrified guitars. there's no need for all that mess. real music is a man and a guitar and a harmonica.
seriously, guy. kraftwerk came out when? detroit techno came out when? chill.
YES!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha
2021: "Daughter, your music is so noisy".
My parents (generation X people) don't like Soundgarden 💔
God deserves a nobel for creating chris cornell
Yes I agree Chris Cornell awesome Singer and a awesome group ❤
Jason Everman, the most interesting man in the world, on bass. Guitar player for Nirvana. Bass player for Soundgarden. US Army Ranger. Special Forces Green Beret. Combat veteran. Author. Philosopher.
And now in his own band Silence & Light, he plays guitar!
That's just like, your opinion dude.
That's why he kicked with the coolest band on Earth then SOUNDGARDEN
He was at this same venue 3 months and a day earlier w/Nirvana, on the 1st leg of the US Bleach tour.
Fired from every band for having better hair
3 months before Nirvana played right there, epic place, BTW Jason Everman played both shows haha
I noticed the same!
Great info 👍
Jason what a lucky guy... played in two legendery bands at the same time
@@viniciuspimenteldosreis8868 Then went on to become a Green Beret.
The Legend!
God I miss record stores so bad...How many of you guys were record store groupies? I spent more time in the record stores just chilling with my friends, making new friends, buying new records, old records, getting introduced to up and coming new music...buying concert tickets there, having bands pop in and just jam the fuck out or purely just hang out and sign a few autographs....there was ALWAYS something going on at the record stores....My closest was Streetside and Vintage Vinyl....See not only are most of us trying to get over the fact we'll never hear the best man in Rock's voice live again, we are all still now being taken back to our youth and traveling back to the times where no fucks were given, and that was OK, in fact, that was how it was suppose to be....every time im almost to the point im accepting him being gone, Im slapped with another reminder that in fact, he IS gone, and tha's a very hard pill to swallow. RIP Chris....you got me throughmore years of my life with you in it, then with you NOT in it...."Nail in my hand, from my creator-you gave me life, now show me how to live". RIP Chris
I worked at Tower and Virgin Records until they went out of business! Fun times 😂❤
I'm 62 now (2017). Grunge was definitely a follow through of the rock of the 70's. I can see a lot of Led Zep in here. That was the right thing to do. Thank God.
When I was in middle school, this stuff was blowing up everywhere. So many good bands came out all at once.
Definitely, Sabbath heavy.
The proper hybrid between LZ and Sabbaths early masterpieces. ❤
When I saw Soundgarden in a mid-sized venue in early 1990 I remember thinking "This must be what it was like to see to see Led Zeppelin" in 1970.
I don't think the sound system was meant to take that kind of power from a voice.
I don't remember which album it was(maybe Badmotorfinger), but Chris actual busted multiple sound systems while recording vocals just from the sheer intensity of his voice.
@@HeLicks it was louder than love
@@HeLicks During the recording of "Superunknown" at Bad Animals, he would break a few Neumann microphones while singing, because of the power of his voice
"I'm somewhat bemused to say that he managed to fry five [Neumann] U 87's," Beinhorn recalled. "I know this because I saw bills from the studio for new condensers, for new diaphragms. Yeah, five mics were destroyed in the making of this record."
@@HeLicks it was while recording Superunknown.
More likely the camcorder couldn't handle it. Probably sounded a lot better to those in the room
I always thought they were the best band out of the seattle scene. This bootleg leaves no doubt in my mind.
richie fuzz Yes the best from Seattle!!!! 👍👏✌
JD Blatz right on man. I think we can also agree those people in the audience were some of the luckiest people ever.
JD Blatz Richie are you in Seattle
Joanna deymonaz no I'm in rural western north carolina where everybody else listens to gospel music, hank williams, or abba. It sucks big time.
Yeah Smashing Pumpkins are pretty fucking awesome too. Liked both bands cause they embodied the do it yourself punk/underground ethos but true to it they didn't settle for some of the regular punk cliches and incorporated different stuff, like Zeppelin and joy division. And thank god cause we the listeners got some pretty epic shit to listen to.
Whoever was at this performance still hasn't gotten their hearing back...wow! BRUTAL and that's a good thing!!
Isn't it wierd to think that guy would one day do a James Bond song
That's a great comment. So true. I love that song and sometimes play it on my guitar here in Seattle. What a legend........
The best james bond song
and what a song
And a mission impossible song...
And Avengers.
My favorite band ever and this is just awesome. I wish I would have known them in 89 but i was still being fed Poison and motley crew. My first taste was Badmotorfinger and it changed my life. This version of far beyond the wheel gave me that feeling again!
Beyond the wheel is such an underated song
personally it's the song they should be remembered for.
It’s brutal
Top 10 Soundgarden song, easy

If I had a time machine, I'd go back and... raise that goddamn mic!
This is the Soundgarden that got me into Soundgarden.
Lost and found in the garden of sound!!!
If you love Hiro, and Soundgarden, then I'd think you really would like Hiro featured on Down by the Water by Maki Mae! czcams.com/video/IDvzd7xv_qw/video.html
Me too. I was tired of “metal”. This was heavy yet so unique. And Chris’ voice was so powerful. This was not Brittney Fox.
Amen
Same, first heard them around this time, fan ever since
what the fuck?????????????
dude this is amazing!! Holy shit thank you thank you thank you,.......wow..this is crazy. I saw them live 3 times back around this time...Chris rocking the strat is awesome!! I had NO idea this even existed.
Bands like Deftones and Rage Against the Machine have videos around of them playing in record stores in their early days. It's really cool.
blasterkid 2014 me too. Are you in Seattle
no san diego. I was really active with bands (sorry this is blasterkid...just a different username.) but I started seeing soundgarden live...in 1989 any time they'd come near here...saw them 3 times for the louder than love tour and then 3 or 4 times on badmotorfinger...then 1 time for each of the other albums...I've seen Chris solo I think 12 times. never saw audioslave but felt like I got a lot of good shows under my belt. In 1989 or maybe 1990 they opened for Danzig of all things...last show of the Louder than Love tour and I was front row dead center smashed to the stage with Chris right there...they opened with Beyond the Wheel at that show and I mean...it was the greatest thing ever. I loved Soundgarden more than anything...Chris obviously...and I mean. I am just devastated with what's gone on. I'll never get over it. :(
I feel your pain Richard. Chris & Soundgarden were a huge influence on me as a young man through to the present. At least know that there are many, many people feeling your loss right now. You aren't alone...
Ugly Truth is one of their best songs ever, and that's saying a lot. I love every version of this song, and once again it kind of defines Cornell's self/world view. Love the bridge, the lull, and the subsequent crescendo, which was their trademark sound and why I love so many of their songs.
1.Get on the Snake 0:25
2.Ugly Truth 4:03
3.Big Dumb Sex 9:26
4.Hands All Over 14:06
5.Gun 20:05
6.Beyond the Wheel 25:35
The tune "Hands All Over" sounds a lil bit like "Evenflow" by Pearl Jam
Better way to phrase it should be : "Evenflow" sounds like "Hands All Over"
;-)
Marcos Dominguez shut up!
Monotremata yeah thats what i really meant.
R CB dude wtf i'm a big soundgarden fan. Is just that i noticed the ressemblance.
Damn! Those kids are good... They might have a future in the Rock & Roll business!!! R.I.P. C.C.🤘
The good old days when record bars/stores/distros were among the coolest places for bands to launch their albums and play live and where fans hang around watch an awesome concert and support their favorite bands by purchasing their records on that same gig, those were the days man ...
Louder than live sounds amazing, live in a small place. So real, so authentic. The record sounds so well produced that I never imagined it could sound so punk rock. That late 80's sound from the emerging Seattle bands was incredible.
Never seen him look more comfortable playing and singing
The early days of Grunge music. Glad I was part of that era as a teen. It was good time!
Matt Cameron just pounding out the solid beats! The garden of sound lives on!
Speechless. Soundgarden were mammoths of unadulterated art.
Money cant give what the truth takes away
When I watch these old grunge band videos, I think to myself, the world has no idea what's coming and they're gonna fuckin love it.
I was deep into the beginning of my sophomore year at Keene state. I wish I'd been here instead.
This is Chris Cornell and Soundgarden in their heyday. The music will live on.God Bless
Duuude Kim Thayil is wearing a Saint Vitus shirt..awesome!!
Louder Than Love is such a heavy album, featuring some of the best hard rock drumming ever.
Young and full of piss and vinegar, as they should be. Thanks for sharing this gem.
He was a rock star even then
Just pure awesomeness in this bootleg! Louder Than Love era.
My favorite album,I see Chris playing his black Stratocaster here, that's rare to see!
SO GOOD. ....this is just before Chris Cornell realized how hard it actually is to play guitar, that the underrated + awesome Kim Thayil had everything covered (on his own), and that he was in his own way: that the band was better served if he just focused on singing/performing.
I love how at the end Chris leans the guitar strings against the amp and leaves the fret buzzing and walks off...
The late 80's...look no one watching while looking through their cell...just truly living in the moment and enjoying it...I was only 16...wish I could have been there...RIP dear soul
They remind me so much of early Sabbath here its awesome!
I was just thinking that and then seen your comment a second later...haha
RIP Chris
I was thinking the same!
Robert Lynn lot of Zeppelin too
...if Sabbath were fronted by Robert Plant.
@@bcanfield1860 F'ing on point.
that version of Beyond the Wheel is one of the best live versions out there (even from this era) Chris is ON for this song.
Been a Soundgarden fan since Badmotorfinger but for some reason only heard this song when I watched the video for the first time a couple of months back. blasterkid 2014 you are absolutely right.
blasterkid 2014 AGREE!!!!
Germany 1990 version is PRO :D
C.C. Portugal Amazing 😎🤘
I am the same guy as 'blasterkid 2014'...just replying with my main youtube account. I got that Germany show way back on VHS tape in about 1993 or so...so I've watched it many times. thank you!
Damn, listen to how high he could really sing!!! Incredible. RIP Chris. I'm still sad over this.
Our beloved Andy was still with us here. I love these early shows.. Thankyou Mike.
wow soundgarden 89 crushing the westwood record store - awesome!
LONG LIVE HAIR BANDS! \m/ 😈 \m/
RIP Chris. I will miss Soundgarden.
Best band ever
Baby Chris. Missing you, even now Chris.
That's gold footage - R.I.P Chris
Chris was insanely gorgeous right here, I'm sure he had a lot of haters with having it all, looks, body, and talent, just wow!
Oddly enough, he married two ugly bitches. I guess physical beauty in a man doesn't help much...
@@afonsodeportugal Susan Silver was, still is gorgeous!
@@afonsodeportugal as fucked up as it was I laughed too fast at this comment. But Susan was pretty in my opinion however no comment on his last wife
My heart literally skipped a few beats when he was singing with his hair out of his face. I imagine a few hearts stopped in that crowd as well, thinking whaaaaat? He was both insanely talented and shockingly beautiful all in one.
So lame. I'll say it again, a woman's appreciation of music comes down to how attractive they find the singer.
Wow...you can see, even back then, that this dude at the mic was a freaking rockstar!!!! I would have joined a band with him singing instantly....no questions asked. One of the best voices ever, even in it's raw form like it is here.
WOW!! Old skool Rhino Records gigs, those were the days.
I never liked taking the Lord's name in vain, but on Hands All Over, Jeezus Christ!!!! What a beast sound!!
Right? 😆🤘🏼
Chris here proves what you can do with a Fender Stratocaster...magic!
...can also do...
Chris Bennett
...Can also do too...
Dave Carsley - can do also too as well...
jonas brave
Can do also too as well additionally
that's not a fender Stratocaster, it's a Gibson Les Paul, looks like a semi hollow body. still though, he's fucking rocking it.
Chris' high register was superhuman. What a show!
Thanks for posting this.
I was still stuck in the Led Zeppelin, ac/dc music when these dudes were up and coming. But when I heard Sound Garden it enhanced my music catalog. Chris Cornell had some pipes that will never be replaced.
Sounds so heavy on far beyond the wheel, kim has a great tone
This man had THE MOST AMAZING voice ever!!...especially hitting those high notes! 😱...u are TRULY MISSED!!
Best to ever do it!! Fucking legend
His voice on Beyond the Wheel😯. Thank you, Chris. RIP #Legend
28:11 - That note opens o portal to another world.
The guy behind the band in the white shirt is enjoying this more than the crowd itself. Dead ass crowd for such a legendary band. R.I.P. Chris Cornell...
It's because it's a record store gig at 3:00 on a Sunday 🤣
They had no idea what they were witnessing…
Imagine some late 80s kid strolling into a record store to get the latest Paula Abdul CD just before Cornell lights into "Beyond The Wheel"...
Who ever you are? Thank you a million times over for sharing this show!!! Truly a treasure!
Even with shitty audio, Chris's voice soars above everything. SG ... best band every. Hell yeah!
RIP Chris Cornell. Terrible, terrible news...
+cathalsurfs Naw,no foul play,He was depressed AF,stop the fucking conspiracy shit,you idiot
Just rumours and speculation at this stage. Ativan would seem to have played a major role.
how the fuck do you know man......c'mon! were you there??
Why can't people state an opinion on here without trolls saying things that would get them punched in the mouth if the cowards said it face to face?
I apologise for any offence, I certainly did not mean to offend anyone. I have removed my comment, out of respect.
thank you for putting this shit out! the guys voice stopped me in my tracks when I first heard soundgarden! I mean his fucking voice sounded like a Marshall major 200 watt amp ×10! damn I'm still sad from the news! my heart goes out to his wife and children as well as the Seattle fans and fans all over the world. r.i.p superstar!
Life moves fast! SG definitely changed my life! I was a child when they performed this; but the 90s SG would be my first introduction into Seattle grunge! Missin’ CC! So iconic!
St Vitus.... one of SST's little treasures...
There were very few of us ready for this kind of "heavy" in 89.
Yep, took me till Badmotorfinger in '91.
P.s. Judges of Cornell's voice here: their sound is raw in this and many early shows. Cornell, in the beginning, was all power and only partly melodic; his pitch was usually imperfect (maybe owing to how loud they were). There was a marked difference between his days with Soundgarden, even when they released 'Down on the Upside', and his later voice, when he'd matured and was covering everything from 'Nothing Compares...' to 'I Will Always Love You'. He was at the height of his powers in the last few years; his tone was perfect; his pitch was on nearly all of the time; and everything coalesced beautifully. I don't think he was so mindful of his pitch and being 'in voice' until sometime around 'Euphoria Morning'. Nevertheless, he shows his range here on 'Beyond the Wheel' and it sounds relatively effortless. He was monumentally talented as a singer and songwriter, and that's why so many of his peers and following acts are paying homage to him.
This may all be true, but I far prefer his singing on the earlier records. Broader range, powerful, as imperfect as it may be technically
That 4 octave vocal is absolutely insane. I still can’t believe he’s gone.
you were my best friend in my years of youth.Always in my heart.Rest in the superunknown
Kostas Kaidantzis love from Chris.
Chris' vocals on Beyond the Wheel...holy f... he was the best.. now you're rockin heaven Miss you always 💖
RIP THE GREAT CHRIS CORNELL 1964-2017..miss u so much bro..Godbls your soul.😢
I saw Soundgarden in New York City at the Armory back in spring 1994 and I just want to say their venue was kick ass probably the greatest I have been to besides The Cult, Metallica, and Guns n' Rose's. I'm glad I went to the show because I never had another opportunity because of sell out concerts, you have to take a chance if you can get to any show...
This is the earliest footage of Soundgarden I've seen so far. Already, Chris had a great voice.
"Hi." Don't know why I found that funny. RIP Chris.
DefLeppard1221 I agree. It was fucking funny. Consistent with his humor I’ve observed in interviews over the years.
DefLeppard1221 his comments in between songs were epic
Just out audioslaves debut on the David letterman marquee

Those young impressionable minds in the audience are witnessing a greatness that was revolutionary.

WE ALL NEED TO THANK MIKE! THANK YOU MIKE! WHAT A TREASURE OF A VIDEO!!!
This is a true rock and roll presentation.
A group of young men dedicated to what it is that is bad ass. Loved them then, loved them to the end. RIP Chris.
Hands all over sounds so fucking amazing. Would love to have seen them back then.
Of all the recent musician deaths over the past few years, even though Chris wasn't necessarily my favourite of them, he is in fact the one that hit me the hardest. The grunge era of music had the biggest influence on me and to my own playing. As we lost Lemmy and Bowie somewhat recently and I loved them, losing Chris was like losing one of our own, if that makes any sense.
Holy Jesus. All Hail the God of Rock.
The best band out of Seattle! Miss you CC! R.I.P. Loud Love ❤️
love Matt's minimalist kit
Imagine seeing this awesome band play for a small crowd in a record store. I was lucky enough to see them in a mid-sized venue in early 1990 - it was killer.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard Cornell hit notes higher than in this version of Beyond The Wheel!
F*cking incredible.
So amazing otherwordly. AMAZING!!!!
Raw Pure Cornell!!
The best era in rock history. Punk-Metal-Rock and Roll all fused into one. See you later Chris!!!
RIP Chris. And thanks to the uploader of this video... I found out how cool is Jason Everman. Amazing dude!
In September 1994, influenced by Renaissance icon Benvenuto Cellini (who stated that a well-rounded man is an artist, warrior and philosopher), he left Mind Funk to join the United States Army, subsequently serving with the Army's 2nd Ranger Battalion and later with the Special Forces, serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.[4]
After completing his tour of duty with the Rangers, he took a break
from the service and lived in New York City where he briefly worked as a
bike messenger. He then traveled to Tibet
and worked and studied in a Buddhist monastery before returning to the
U.S. He reentered the Army when offered the chance to join Special
Forces. After receiving an honorable discharge in 2006, Everman went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Columbia University School of General Studies on May 20, 2013.[4] General Stanley A. McChrystal wrote a letter of recommendation for his application.[1] In September 2010, Everman conducted an interview with Music Life Radio detailing his life.[5] In July 2013, The New York Times published a portrait on Everman, written by guitarist and writer Clay Tarver.[1]
The article features interviews with Everman, his family members,
former band colleagues, music industry people, and soldiers. A 2014 The Daily Beast interview mentions that Everman was invited to and attended Nirvana's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
induction, that he lives in New York, has participated in writing
workshops and "still goes overseas regularly, working as a consultant
for the military."[6]
Omg, thank you so much for sharing this. Wow.
What a treat! It is so awesome to come across this right now. Still heartbroken.
RIP Chris. You stood among giants, and towered above them.
Wow...Christ playing a Strat.
Dude this is rare and awesome!
You were the greatest Chris.
Chris sounding so much like Jim Morrison in this version of "Get on the snake". Those in attendance must have felt the presence of greatness and the prospect of mind blowing performances to come. SG really put a lot of effort into this gig and it shows! Loud love forever.
