What kind of colored pencils do you use
This dog is stunning! Your work on detail amazes me! Thank you for this tutorial...it helps. I am working in Colour Pencil too, I would like to see more tutorials on blurry backgrounds like further away trees,grasses forground ,middle and background of a single piece. I am doing a moose right now, and it has 3 diff substrates in its pic, including wheat grass. Thanks Leontine!
Just use pan Pastels for that
Thank you for an amazing demonstration! You skill using different colors to get a desired effect is very interesting and probably comes with a lot of experience. For example, using purple the way you do - that is a color I would never have even considered using. Your talent is inspiring!

That is a great dog! I have never really tried drawing with colored pencils, i normally do graphite drawings. This video has made me consider colored pencils.

SO SO SO beautiful!!! I am amazed by your work Leontine!!! SO cool to have you to show us things you mastered, so generous of you. There are things that are difficult for me to get. For exemple to firuge out wich colors to use underneet. LIke when you use purples and pink!!! It's all beautiful when you finish and you must know why you use these colors, but for me it's hard to figure out which color to use apart from the obvious ones and why... I know great color pencils artist all do that... But for me it's still hard to figure out exactly why and which ones to use when am by myself with a drawing. Maybe it's something you could do a video on (even if you already give us tips during the videos you shared). Maybe explaining even further the reasons why and more tips, and tips on how to see wich colors it would be good to use for different drawing situations. Thanks for everything. Very grateful to have discover you.

On the strands of hair that go over into the face, how do you keep them from getting covered when you do the face? Do you use an embossing tool? Also, how do you get those white hairs on his lips where its pinkish and the stray white hairs up on his forehead? I'm doing my fist commission and the dog has white hairs like that by his mouth. I would love a cheetah, I have been doing a portrait on and off for over a year and can't get it to look right, have used too many layers and don't know how to get the values right, the fur is too dark but that doesn't matter I have done a good job with the eyes, nose and mouth but can't get the fur to look real x

Thank you so much! I taught myself to see every single color in a photo, and with a lot of practice and experience I started to see the actual color names as well. The blue I use if there's a cold hue in the fur. It tones down the brown. The purple on the other side, enhances the vibrant brown tone. I basically choose my colors based on what I have already experienced and on intuition as well:)

Maar welke kleurpotloden kan ik me dan het beste aanschaffen. Ik wil graag meteen goede kopen, want het zijn dure aanschaffingen. Kun jij mij hier een eerlijk advies ingeven. Hoe hoe groot de doos moet zijn, want ik zie daar zoveel verschillende aantallen in. Alvast bedankt.
How do you burnish while still being able to layer on top and how do you make it so glossy?? It's beautiful by the way 😍
I don't push that hard when burnishing for the first time.Then I can still layer on top. After adding many layers and burnishing several times it does get to a point of the paper being saturated though:)
How do you know what colors to choose
leontine can i know how you sharpener you'r colour and pastel pencil?
i know you use a derwent super point sharpener bit long ago you say that ys broke and that non going to sharpen you'r pastel pencil.
but you not say how you stil sharpen you'r colour pencil...

Hey eh, my greatest problem starts when I draw eyes... I want to ask you, would u be able to do a tutorial about how to draw similar face sides, like two same eyes... I always make one eye bigger or lighter than other one xD heh, just need some improvement, do I? :3

if I did this dog in pastels it's the same technique ?
No with pastels you usually work from dark to light. So starting off with a dark brown base layer and adding the lighter strands on top:)

By burnishing with the CD white pencil aren’t you in danger of depleting the tooth of the paper especially after having added so many previous layers of colour beneath it, leaving your final (and very critical) layer to not take on the burnished paper??
That can happen yes, if the pressure on the pencil is too high. I keep the pressure light, even when burnishing for the first time. That allows me to add another layer and even burnish a second time if necessary. Of course it does depend on the paper type as well:)

It is a 'Drentse patrijs' , which is a Dutch dog breed. Looks very much like a springer:)

I just found your channel and I love your colored pencil animals! I think your Patreon channel would be a good one for me to get some good instruction on colored pencil techniques, however, I need to know if you have background music on your Patreon videos. I watched the White Fur on White Paper video and I was so mesmerized with watching and then I went to the Brown Fur right ear video and I found myself struggling to hear what you were saying and getting very irritated because the music was competing with your voice as they were about the same level of sound. Just so you know, as people get older they have trouble separating noises, such as the conversation from the music or more than one voice at a time. This is something I wasn't aware of until fairly recently (as I'm now getting up there in years) and it is very frustrating to desperately try to hear important information thru the background noise that you are trying to drown out. I was surprised to hear from many other people that they have the same problem. I also found out that it is not only older people, but that a lot of the people who had difficulty were 'right brained'. Interesting, since those are the more artistic types. Before I subscribe to your Patreon channel I just wanted to ask so I don't have to immediately unsubscribe. You do such wonderful fur, noses, eyes, etc. that I know I could learn so much from you. Please don't be offended. I am just asking for myself and not suggesting there is anything negative about your channel for the majority of your subscribers.
