Wayne Goss i know this is an old video but FINALLY someone gets . It!! I keep commentimg on certain videos that the IG eyebrows, cat winged out edyeliner, blinding highlight and overdone self tanner and as a bonus(preventive) botox and fillers will be in 201+ (2018) what we thought of big hair, shoulder pads and flipped up collor shirts were in the 80's. We also thought those . Looks good now didnt we? What do you think? Cheers!
Wayne Goss seems like half your content is telling women what YOU don’t like about THEIR make up and that’s very white male of you tbh
You seem like you're trying to earn "feminist cred" by bashing every man who critiques or disagrees with a woman's makeup, even if he's doing so respectfully and as an expert in his field. Look, if a male doctor says that women aren't getting enough breast cancer checkups, you'd be like, "half your medical advice is telling women what YOU don't like about THEIR health management and that's very white male of you tbh"
StealingSunsets, I actually disagree with you. I've seen the type of videos you're talking about - these guys, who evidently have NO knowledge about makeup or women's experiences, belittle women's capabilities and decisions based on the makeup they choose to wear. But Wayne is pointing out the limited ability of this SPECIFIC fad to flatter ALL faces in ALL situations - despite the fact that it's ragingly popular. If you actually watch his videos, he explains that the hyper-contoured Instagram trends CAN look good under dramatic lightings: or in drag, as costume makeup. He NEVER implies that a woman is less deserving of respect because of her makeup choices, because he's critiquing a STYLE of makeup that a lot of women don't even realize is exaggerated and draglike, instead of "glamorous" or "normal." Lots of women adopt this "Instagram style" just because it's popular, not realizing it might look ridiculous outside of the Instagram gurus' dramatic filters and highly stylized lighting.
larken wen that’s the most idiotic jump conclusion i’ve read in a minute. i haven’t told that to any other man, just the one who bases 50% of his content around it.
he's like the Gordon Ramsey of the makeup world
TallBeachBall True! Love it
TallBeachBall ahaha yep just as honest to the point of sayin just stick to the basics lol.
TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB
idontusethisverymuch YES, exactly!
idontusethisverymuch legit
It's kinda funny because I think it's become such a trend that when you "don't" do this now you get lots of comments saying that your eyebrows look horrible because it's not perfectly sculpted or shaped or done in that way.
WENGIE!!! hi!!!!
i found your channel today and i love your videos!!
I prefer nicely groomed, thick eyebrows. Less product is better. Some are prows at the sculpted brows and I envy them, lol.
Actually people aren't looking at me strange when they aren't filled in. When I do the instagram brow I get dirty looks and stares. 😒 A more natural brow suits me.
Wengie!
It’s 4 years since this video and these horrible brows are STILL here! 🤮
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Probably cause so many girls foolishly got them tattooed on😕
Now they have no choice now but to make sure the brow style keeps trending... 😂😂😂
Isha X Not even that. They just genuinely somehow think it looks good...
Lmao
@@randomcommenter6558 This tho. People still do it because it's still a trend sadly, not many people got them tattooed that I know of (maybe microblading, among the high maintenance types) but nah, as a teen I can tell you we're still doing this shit.
I can't believe you uploaded such an important video in 2014 and people are still doing it in 2018
aaaaand still going strong lol
its going stronger than ever 😂
Its 2019 and they still at it 😫
Almost 2020 and still trendy 🤣🤣
ITS 2020 and stilllll.....
I never felt so insecure about my eyebrows until 2015/2016 when it became the center of whether you were pretty or not.
That's gonna get worse the lips are mad like lip plumper lip balms !!!!! And I hate how people contour there nose like cmon people
on point
+kettospontde what if someone has that kind of eyebrows natrually??
try dealing with eyebrow hair so light you can't see it...
I don't feel insecure about mine, really, but I would prefer to actually have eyebrows. Mine are so sparse and thin. :/
in a world of girls trying so hard to be so different they all end up looking the same.
words of wisdom
-.- omfg please just stfu. Girls should be doing what they fucking want. Saying smth like that wouldn't make it better so pls just be quiet
+Jenny Pieper Excuse me. Don't tell me to stfu I have an opinion and I will say whatever I want :) Kindly take your disgusting language and horrible attitude elsewhere. Thanks
+Raithi Govender offending a gender or a group of human beings isn't an opinion? I'm sorry but wth.
Words of stupidity is more like it. If you follow a trend you clearly aren't trying to look different, dumbass. A trend is something the majority follows. You're pretty less than smart to think that its something people do to look different. Lol, oh well, you tried didn't you?
He didn't even say anything offensive, he just expressed his opinion in a very nice way actually! And I totally agree with Wayne
THIS is hilarious! And honest! I'll probably get hate for this, I don't care but all those girls look like clones of each other. There's no individuality. So thank you for this video! ❤️
A few days ago I went to the capital city for university and almost every human being with 44+XX chromosome formula had the same makeup, same hair, even the same face. Just why?
Lots of people on Instagram have started to look the exact same. Same eyebrows, same glitter and cut crease eyes, and ombré lips. Carbon copies of each other
preach!!!
I agree!
Yup .... it's very boring.
It's almost creepy. Like an android army preparing to take over humanity with their horrible taste.
So damn true
You're so professional and honest. I like the way you express your views without offending anyone. If there are such comments, they haven't watched it all.
+M. Benedetti Thank you so much lovely xoxo
+Wayne Goss i agree if i look at the eyebrows separately just a photo of those brows step by steps it helps me when i shape mine, same when its just pic of eyeshadows that are bold or colorful or dramatic i think that they are talented and that it looks really good..but together it is just too much overdrawn eyebrows that clash with the shadows..drags do it for reason all this makeup and bold shadows and dress.. but when i look at the girls i just dont know what to focuse on... but well if they like it and they feel good wearing it then why not ok its their makeup :) and u said it really well and micely without anyone feeling offended
So much respect for crediting drag makeup as the starters lf these trends!
this is why I prefer korean brows, they’re filled in but not until the point where they’re basically opaque
So glad u brought up the weird gradient thing people do at the tip of their eyebrows. Some people go a little too far with it and it almost appears as a unibrow
Annie G Oh my gosh, yes. I live in Essex, England, and people literally have a faded unibrow 😑 so bad!
Annie G ahhhh, god yes!!
Saffron Freya lol I live in Essex too
Annie G Yea like I have a fade in my brows, but a natural one, and i NEVER bring it wayy far in to make them look like reallyyyyyy long eyebrows or go from like dark, BLACK eyebrows to a complete fade. I'm not particularly a fan of that. I just do a partial fade because naturally i have one (and i don't darken my eyebrows too much anyways) :/ I mean of course anyone can do what they want and what they think looks good, but i just like to keep mine natural for the most part.
Annie G only like a wittle fade because people (like me) have less hair at the inner part.
Do you agree?!
Yes
Вы абсолютно правы! Я думаю о точно так же )
Of course I do... its something Ive been attempting to tell my friends and peers but theyre defiant and insist that it helps their face when in fact it looks like Sharpie (permanent marker) brows drawn on. Sure, some people have sparse eyebrows but rather than fixing them to flatter their face it adds focus to the wronf area for the wrong reason. Thanks for putting it into perspective Wayne, youre my go to guru :) lots of love ♡
Indeed, on picture it might look nice... but in person... All I tend to see is make up.
Same thing with contouring technics. I'm not extremely fair skin, but any contour/bronzer looks muddy and unatural. Maybe I don't know how to pull it of ;). But let's face it, we do not live in a room only connected to the world via a camera. Nothing is more beautiful than a fresh look. That's always what gets me the most compliments
The second you said drag queen, it all fell into place!
I personally think there's a difference between artistic makeup and daily makeup. If you're going to an event, I think artistic makeup is more appropriate. Contrary to pop culture I don't think anything goes anytime, anywhere. I think freedom and choice are wonderful, but boundaries are beneficial and the negativity that people most often attach to boundaries and rules is misguided. Anyway, from watching Mr. Goss's videos, he seems truly committed to ENHANCING a woman's beauty. It is a huge compliment to women and a worthy endeavor. When you focus on enhancing the uniqueness of an individual you don't get the copy and paste
look that has taken over social media. Invaded and taken it hostage, rather.
I'd love brows thick as Lily Collins, but they don't fit my face, they just weren't what I was born with. I see everyday makeup's purpose as a connect the dots. The overall picture is there, just highlighting it a bit more (and no, not the shimmer type or concealer three shades too light and applied three times too thick type). For brows, maybe I bring out the tail SLIGHTLY, fill in the sparse places, but stay true to their shape and color.
From what I've seen most girls aren't experimenting creatively, they're copying instaglam "models" and heavy-handed "makeup artists" bc they don't understand that less is more and that uniqueness and individuality of a woman will always trump copying and pasting.
It took me years to accept my nose, non-Lily Collins brows, my less-than-Angelina pout, but now I slap on some BB cream, mascara, run a pencil over those baby brows and I feel beautiful. Not everyone likes the no makeup look, maybe you feel too plain. But, the goal in however many products you use should be to stay true to your own beauty. If your daily look is COMPLETELY different from how you actually look, I think there's a deeper issue that hasn't been resolved.
Leigh Jones agree 💯👍
Ava Lynn - Thanks for "getting" it!
Leigh Jones Beautifully written agree with all of this
Ejuerleigh Jones Amen to that. 👏
Underrated comment.
This guy is the Gordon Ramsey of makeup.
Brooke May he is the best!
Gordon Ramsey can be quite abrasive...and Wayne is not!!! I hope you meant that in a nice way....Wayne is a sweetheart!
I love how he says "it's just makeup, it can be washed off at the end of the day". This is so true and way too many people take makeup too seriously. Your face is the canvas and makeup is the art.
Bubble Gum I think it's the message behind the makeup that is off-putting. Caking your face to the point of being unrecognizable screams insecurity. Following Instagram trends detail by detail, not taking into consideration you have different facial features than the original picture you're trying to copy, screams trendy unoriginal sheep with no fashion sense. Not only that, it may look pretty in Instagram pics, but when in real life, when the sunlight hits it, it makes the girl look like a crack addict.
Kat Sutherland Yes some people do use it to cover up because they're insecure but some just like to use it because they like it. and hahaha yes sometimes makeup does do that, which is exactly why I don't use it all the time, some looks are for the camera not real life.
Bubble Gum true art is when noone likes it... wait... then its more likely its just shit
Jaey Bob and cost a million bucks lol
bless you!
the man literally said it's just his opinion. He said to each their own. How are yaal still up in arms
KandiSweetzz Yeah...Some people do over do it but that's how we learn! To each his own though just like we are taking makeup hints from homosexual males!
Lisa Dismuke oooh, "we"! he should keep to his homosexual male lane, right, because he's a non-female, non-heterosexual make-up artist *on his own damn channel* speaking about eyebrows! How dare he! What right does such a type (!) have to tell "us" anything? What right does the male homosexual have to design clothes or shoes or interiors? "They" don't wear dresses or high heels, do they! Outrageous! Why are we listening to "them"?! Let "them" talk to their own kind on their own channels, bc make-up trends have never, ever had anything to do with gay males, of course! and male make-up artists don't have anything to teach ANYbody!!!
@@lmarvel4431 you're just mad that a guy can do his makeup AND brows better than you.

there's so much negativity out here. why tell young girls that their brows look shitty? why make them feel bad about how they look? I don't get it
Did you see the entire video? Thats not what i said at all!
Happy Highlighter what negativity are you talking about? he's not even talking about natural brows...i recommend watching the video before commenting :)
Happy Highlighter You must be one of those snowflakes that get offended by everything.
Happy Highlighter because it looks bad and not natural at all. hes not making them feel bad he i giving constrive criticism
There is a difference between discussing why the look of that make -up technique is not attractive in his opinion and telling a woman her natural face/eyebrows are ugly.
I'd give anything for Wayne to do my makeup....…

What I feel is happening with the cosmetics craze brought on by CZcams and social media is that these looks get posted, the public (usually young and/or new to makeup) falls in love with the flawless looks, and it's all so accessible. Almost every mall has an Ulta or Sephora now and there are dupes everywhere and the drugstore has stepped it's game up and products are also listed in the description and the tutorials walk through it and tell you everything you need. It's so easy to replicate these days. But what the public isn't seeing is that these are not meant to be on your face everyday, they are runway looks, black tie looks, prom looks, drag looks (literally a drag look that takes two hours to put on and is meant for a drag show, and then a women wears it to her office everyday or a teenager wears it to school everyday). It's becoming the norm to look like Nikki Tutorials everyday and what people don't see is not even Nikki looks like Nikki Tutorials everyday.
Sad.... But true 😪
And everyone just looks like clones.
nikki tutorial's looks like a damn fool she does not look good like that either and her hairstyle is awful for the shape of her head because she looks like an egg or a pineapple trying to do drag
+tavern2468 this is pretty true. She does have talent, and it works for photoshoots and all that. But she's teaching all these young girls that they need to be walking around practically in drag to fit in, despite what her "power of makeup" video says, everyone sees Nikki do it so they don't wanna leave the house without three different concealers, heavy contour and a pound of highlight. And I had never really noticed about the hair, but yes, that little thing on the top is not working. She's very young, I hope she grows out of the intense coverage and all that, it's hard being a role model to youth when your just barely stepping into adulthood yourself, I hope she finds her own path.
Tonya Hedden she is still young and we all make trend mistakes - I'm sure ill regret my purple hair and etc. lol but no one needs this much makeup and I guess shes trying to make money too and yes the beauty industry plays on the insecurities of people BUT at the same time these girls should know they look like damn fools if it takes you two or more hrs just for make up and you DONT have severe acne and etc then something is wrong
3 years later it's the same. Worse even. No end in sight.
I'm old enough now that my own natural brows have been in style at least twice so far.
Just gonna wait it out.
We are in 2019 and these terrifying eyebrows are still around...
Wait whats the problem with the brows i didnt understand ? Im against it to
Wayne CLEARLY states in the beginning of this video, and several other times throughout this video, that these are HIS OWN opinions. To those getting upset, if this is how you do your own brows, who cares? Keep doing what you're doing. Again, Wayne states that these are his own views. There are NO rules when it comes to makeup. Just do whatever makes you happy. But I think it's a bit much to be so harsh with Wayne when all he's doing is expressing his opinion,
I agree! Some ladies and gents are taking this a bit over the top...lol after all his only talking about eyebrows and not religion or war ahaha.
magda m Agreed :)
I completely agree. I do my brows like this and didn't realize what I was doing until now. If he betters my make up technique by telling me I'm doing my brows wrong I will totally sit down and go into depth on the correct way to fill my brows. I trust his opinion. If he want to enhance my features instead of turning me into a completely different person I'm on board! THANK YOU!
jacobmarissa22 yesssss. I agree with all these comments. I thought most people followed makeup artists because they dont know how to do makeup or want professional guidance and now all of a sudden everyone has an opinion. Which is fine. Everyone CAN have an opinion. He just says how to pull off this style if thats what you like and how it easily gets taken overboard. He also says "this is just my opinion" a couple times. he was quite polite about it and not even full on hating the look.
***** I get what you're saying & can appreciate that. But those photos/videos were made for public viewing. If he had used photos of people noone knew would people still complain? I really do get it but I think the way people are handling this is wrong. Just my opinion.
I don't like super-fade-instragram eyebrows either.

Thank you. Im so tired of seeing every female with the same exact "i used a paint roller" eyebrow!
😂😂😂
Could you maybe do a tutorial on how to do brows for people with very patchy/ uneven brows? That would be very helpful.
To all the butt hurt people. If you have a problem with what he said then why don't you go to the other amateur beauty guru's and they can show you how to paint your face, would that make you happy?
"Paint your face"!!! Haha love it!
Amen , kae c. A lot of young ppl I think are more offended. The 90,s babies. They better b glad some didn't grow up in the 80,s.....we didn't have no fucking utube. And it wasn't over perfect ....except only the drag scene. Everyday girls when I was in high school....nice dark lips is all you needed. No false lashes. And it sent all the boys to our yard! Lol
rea2725
Agree. We never had CZcams. No on was there to tell me not to plaster body glitter all over my body and face and call it makeup! Ha ha. I wish +gossmakeupartist had been there to guide me :P
Thank you! I'm so tired of being told I have shit eyebrows because I put some eyeshadow in my eyebrows to fill them in and nothing more.
yes! and people crying here saying that makeup is art/expression BUT make fun of those who don't do them in that way.
Nothing wrong with using eyeshadow! I save LOTS of money using my eyeshadow for brows/ eyelids. :)
N-A-T-U-R-A-L
i use a bronzy type eyeshadow for concealer!! people wouldn't even know it and i get compliments all the time. it's a bit shimmery so it glows when i'm in the sun
I get the same shit lol. I just use a bit of powder to fill them, and some wax to tame my hairs. I don't really construct brows like a lot of girls do. My eyebrows are already really thick, I don't need them to look like caterpillars
remember how everyone clowned him for saying this and now look at us, instagram makeup is not it anymore
Someone who finally understands that every girl is trying to be a drag queen!!
Jess Jones I mean, drag queens are essentially trying to be women(or a caricature of a woman) so it all comes full circle XD
Your picture proves this as well.
Jess, NO, NOT EVERY GIRL... this one prefers to leave drag make-up to actual drag queens
What are drag queens?!?!
@@airahbhat1063 It means men who dress up like women and try to make their faces look more feminine.
I think, after reading some of your comments, that some of you still don't realize what Wayne is about when it comes to makeup and beauty. He is not about trends, HE IS ABOUT MAKING WOMEN LOOK LIKE BETTER VERSIONS OF THEMSELVES !! If you don't get this by now, then really you can easily go find others on here that do all the trends on their face all at the same time and look completely unnatural for the rest of your life. Wayne, like myself, does makeup in a way that emphasizes natural beauty that we all have. If you master this concept, you will always look timelessly beautiful and people will not notice the parts but the whole. Its the difference between wow nice makeup and wow you look stunning! Take this from someone who gets the latter complement a lot. If you have trusted his opinion up until now then what makes this one so different? Sorry, I'd rather take advice from a man with 15 years under his belt in the industry than some hyper girl wearing 5 inches of makeup who hypes up and over exaggerates everything! He is absolutely right, the most respected artists who do celebrities makeup don't ever do all this heavy handed stuff. If you can't handle some criticism, then this channel is too advanced for you.
I love ur comment :)
Hear hear!!!

"Difference between wow nice makeup and wow you look stunning" LOVE IT. Completely agree

"No matter what I do, I'm about to offend". 😂😂😂😂😂😂 People are OVERLY sensitive about any and everything these days, period.
They are the snowflake generation
The generation that sugercoats everything 🤢
It's better to be considerate of other people's feelings than being offensive. You're not being brutally honest, just a jerk.
Um, he just said that. Doesn't mean it's true. The like- dislike ratio is decent.
Also I recommend "The snowflake generation" by Shaun on CZcams :)
Okay if these brows are "bad" can you do a video on how to properly fill in your eyebrows?
Yes could you make a video on how to do it properly?
+Laura Robinson You can still do this if you want. His opinion is not the end of all other opinions.
I think its an okay starter pack technique, but rather than fade in, start earlier in where your natural hairs start or following the curve of your nose and intersection with the brow ridge. Start with a very faint, horizontal-ish line to underline the brow. Then, doing light flicks with your pencil, give the illusion of hairs STARTING AT THE BEGINNING and following to the end. I would actually get a little fainter at the end of the brow. Keep your marks within the lines. Then brush you brows up straight and then swoop across the very top edge from the start of the brow to the end to give directionality. Hope that helped a little??
+Laura Robinson dont do it at all
just focus on eyes nobody wants drawn-eyebrows
I think the point he's trying to make is not to start off your eyebrows like you're fair as fuck and by the end looking like you're from the Mediterranean (in terms of hair colour) Stick to your natural hair colour and just make it more subtle. He's an advocate for natural beauty and just accentuating what you already have rather than drawing on a whole new Mac face that looks like a cartoon drawn in black marker
I got you as an advertisement before your own video
Lol same!

I come from 2019 and i'm afraid this is still going on 😔
I honestly feel like I just have to address this because SOOOOOO many people are giving me crap about this video on my "eyebrow tutorial"... I walk around with fake looking brows everyday and honest to god this video did NOT offend me ...it's just his opinion and it sure don't matter to me cause I love me some Instagram brows lol Wayne I haven't lost any respect for you, still love you!!
I honestly agree with him. As an Aesthetician and Makeup artist myself, I am all about keeping only one focal point on the face. He's being very respectful towards who prefer bold looks.
The weird thing about IG brows is if you highlight your forehead as well it looks like you used an enormous eraser in a circle in that spot...like you just went around and around with the eraser, erasing color from your face and brows. It can be bizarre to have a huge light blob there in the middle of your face, like you are supposed to have a unicorn horn there that was whacked off...so the bizarre becomes the focal point instead of the pretty.
And- Goss is correct. Girlyglo and mayratouchofglam , you won't see *ONE* top MUA doing brows this way. My background is in television, and you certainly wouldn't go on air this way. You also won't see any top stars makeup this way. Now, go to a drag show, and *EVERYONE'S* brows look like this....so the best you could hope for with this bold brow and eye is that you look like a boy trying to look like a girl, and most drag artists don't wear this look in public. I am all for individuality and art, but with Goss when he says why take a gorgeous piece of art and slap a dark ugly frame around it.
I have handlebar brows and they are thick and look like i went over them with a crayon but they really are natural. I have to trim them just so i don't look like Chewbacca.
Girlyglo if that is you in your profile pic, you will have a million girls wanting the chewbacca look. You are insanely gorgeous.
oh my god he isn't preventing anyone from doing what they want to do with their face. I'm so tired of society, especially in youtube comments trying to make people not express or have opinions or their own. people can say they have a certain preference or perspective on something. its not the end of the world. with the logic i see in these comments its like you can't say anything unless everyone in the entire world agrees, its not going to happen. its so annoying.
+Jordan A people are just taking offense because they have been brainwashed by IG to believe "on fleek" brows are the most important thing in life.
+Jordan A he quite literally said do what you want and that its just his opinion a few times??
Get over yourself honey
I totally agree with you!! Like you will offend someone with ANY little statement you make. It's like these people TRY to take things so personally that they're trying to get offended by anything and everything. It's ridiculous.
Agreed. I think people are so overly sensitive now that they can't tell the difference between criticism and constructive criticism smh!
We're going to look back and think WTF?!
We think that already! 😦

so many thumbs down for such a TRUE video! Stop being FAKE
+Free Spirit But 50,000 thumbs up! ;) xx
+Wayne Goss reasons I love Wayne Goss
There's so many thumbs downs because no one should tell someone to stop doing something they like and something that makes them happy. Makeup is art, telling someone to stop making their art a certain way is absurd and just plain bitchy. Instagram artists aren't always doing makeup to look natural or do makeup "by the books of pros", they do makeup based off of what they like. These kinds of brows may make alot of women feel beautiful, so how do you think someone telling them to stop doing that kind of brow will feel to them? Hurt.
+Kate Hollaway he also always tells people to do what they want and what makes them happy. These are just his opinions
+Kate Hollaway And chances are that a lot of the people who do like these brows will look back in 10-20 years and think, "Oh GOD! Why did I ever think this looked good???"
I could be wrong, but that's my thoughts on the matter.
Any one that thinks they are ugly because they don't have a high arched eyebrow or really defined eye brow just take a look at ariana grande. shehas straight feathery eyebrows and she still looks good
katy0233 *looks good in the eyes of most people
In Korea straight eyebrows are the shit. It's theeeee eyebrow style to have and many look beautiful in them.
I think he should've just said. Eyebrows showed and wore by Instagram "beauty" people don't quite fit everyone. Arched eyebrows look horrible in me. I hate them lol but my natural eyebrows have no sort of shape sadly lol
That's what I do! I copy her eyebrows bc she's like my role model and she's like perfect lol
also Jennifer Lawrence has sort of straight eyebrows.
"About to come up with a cure for baldness" 😂😂😂
It's getting a little Hunger Games, honestly.
The Instagram brows are just a symptom of Instagram makeup in general, which is way overdone makeup or 'drag' makeup. Yes, it photographs beautifully, but like Pixiwoo mentioned a few videos ago, if you were to see it in real life it looks very overboard for daily wear

december 2019 and makeup is still the same smh
@@madisonwright9724 September 2020 and still the same even with masks. 🥴
I believe those instagram eyebrows, will one day, be the equivalent of an 80's perm.
I once saw a girl with kit kat eyebrows. Litrally, they had no shape or natural effect. Litrally just two brown dashes. they reminded me of kit kat.
Omg :))))
Straight, dark 'pencil' eyebrows are getting really popular in korea and japan rn.
+Tayla Tails I'm sure she doesn't live in either of those two countries.
Tayla Tails saw her in poundland, uk...
😂😂😂
it is almost is bad as the dark liner around the lips with a light color...
I have seen woman look good with a nice medium crimson red, and a dark liner, but generally, I completely agree!
It is a kinda harsh, unnatural look but I like it! I just don't think I could be brave enough to leave the house with my lip liner like that lol.
I saw Christina Applegate do that (medium crimson, with dark outline) and with her complexion, it looked out of this world (to me hehe). That was a long time ago however.
:D hahahaha this is totally the worst 90`s look ever ! My mum still uses this technique but she kinda blends it out so it looks ok.
lol
My mom asked me recently while I was up doing my hair..."Alyssa, tell me, what is with your generations obsession with their eyebrows?!?!" I've never laughed so hard in my life...
It’s funny how you brought up these techniques being used in drag first because that’s exactly what I thought when all these trends started! I’ve watched a lot of rupaul and the only thing that I’ve noticed drag stars pick up, and not all do, younger fellows definitely, is using highlighter 😂😂 but all the contouring and the high brow arches, all on drag stars!
Ughhhh I hate the highlight under the brows especially on me. 😂😂😂🤭🤭🤭
@@adrienneroxanne9833 I remember when it first started trending... I don't do it anymore
You're like Gordon Ramsay's nicer, makeup-y little brother or cousin. You kind of look like him and you're not afraid to say what's on your mind no mater what it is, but you aren't as loud as him lol.
😂the accuracy
😂😂
lol wtf 😆
😂😂😂makeup-ey
Omg this comment. Tbh I'd still love Wayne even if he was as outlandish as Gordon. I could imagine him putting someone's head between two pieces of bread and calling them "an idiot sandwich that sucks at makeup."
My problem with it is that it ruins people's uniqueness and the beauty that makes them them. Sure, they look good, but I've never seen one that doesn't look exactly the same as every other one. Your natural eyebrow shape is a big part of what makes your face YOUR face, and painting on a pre packaged "perfect" brow strips away that individuality.
eliza schmitt I'm sorry but who cares? it washes off at the end of the day! 'stripping you're individually' please don't be dramatic
eliza schmitt They look....good?
i wholeheartedly agree. what a lovely way to put it!
Unfortunately my real eyebrows look exactly like the instagram brows. Everyone asks me how I do my brows and I'm like "Uhhhhhh I don't"
I agree. All the instagram makeup makes everyone look the same !
I witnessed these eyebrows for the first time in real life about 3 years ago. I was mortified. They just look so out of place.
They look nice in pictures but in real life not so much. 😔
now 2019 and i still make my eyebrows as natural as it is... and i agree with you..
2020 and same. 🙂
Literally could not agree more. Not to mention it takes FOREVER to get a faded brow to look just so.
I love how everybody is like "do it the way you want don't listen to this freak!" If you want to look horrible and unflatter yourself for a flash trend, go ahead. In 20 years just like how we look at thin eyebrows in the 70s, you will think this looks horrible as well. If your friend had fricking red lipstick on their cheeks would you say "just do you" and let them go out looking like a clown? NOO
hihipieinthesky No, they should be able to do whatever they want without people like you saying what right and wrong. It's none of your business what they want to look like, and if they're happy with this so called 'trend' then why does it annoy you so much? Someone could look at your make-up and think it's terrible because it's not to their liking. But are you going to change your make-up just because of that person? Absolutely not, or at least you shouldn't.
hello zahra So you're basically saying theres no standard. That's extreme.
The truth is ALWAYS in the middle.
There are subjective viewpoints in everything, naturally. But there are also things that are ridiculous. Lookin a mess does in fact exist. It's not a made up thing. However, just because it exists doesn't mean that everything that someone deems just not for them, is a mess. It's common sense and rationale.
What the og commenter said is still very correct. If people went out wearing certain things (like lipstick all over their cheeks) they'd look nuts. Just like how if someone went to a job interview fresh rolled out of bed it would look a mess and plain inappropriate.
Truth is never ever in extremes, of either side. Things are case by case usually.
camyg1ng3rsn4ps Where on earth did you find the message of having no standards? lol
There is a difference between having personal standards, and then being demeaning towards the person you don't agree on that standard with. It reminds me of a typical attitude of person with a closed mind. 'You're going to regret this decision in 10 years time!'. What ever happened to being accepted as the person you want to look like, and become?
People fail to realise that the make-up (and beauty) industry is forever evolving and changing. Of course we don't particularly like 'trends' that are 30+ years old, because we have moved on! For someone to tell another person that they should stop drawing their eyebrows in a particular way because they will look back in 40 years is completely nonsensical.
It's a pretty poor comparison to relate these 'instagram brows' to red lipstick on your cheek because they are on a completely different spectrum of what could pass as a 'wearable in public' look. But hey, if you wanna draw red lipstick on your face, why the fuck not? As long as it suits your lifestyle and makes you feel good, why should someone on the internet tell you to do otherwise?
And on the other hand, it's completely confusing to see Wayne mention that women are turning into 'drag queens' in his recent video, when his most ever popular video is the Kim Kardashian inspired contour video, which uses so many techniques drag queens actually use.
Those brows are just a drag look that is very helpful if you're feminizing a face. In fact they were really perfected/invented by Mathu Andersen, the person who does Rupaul's face. I think some people doing that look came from the same polka dotted truck (me included!)
So even though they are not your taste (obviously the main stream taste) they're a very innovative look from one of the best Drag makeup artists, so
Omg I love this! I have been trying and failing to get this brow look due to trying to "fit in with fashion" and now I'm glad that I have never succeeded! I fill my brows in and I'm happy with that 👍🏼
5 years later.
It’s getting worse
Yeah when someone does them eyebrows, all I can see are eyebrows and nothing else.
Omg I thought I was the only who thought all that high light and contour looked like drag make up. some girls over do it. like he said they do have eye shadow and brows. it all reminded me of drag make up
over due*
this is exactly what ive been thinking these while. everytime i do my makeup, i always leave my eyebrows. i only do base, eyes, and lip. i never ever see myself look good with drawn eyebrows because my whole feature would always look too much.
Preach! I was freaking out about the boy brow trend recently. Ugh.
thought I would be offended, was pleasantly surprised

If that's what you like, go for it. I agree with Wayne that the lines are being blurred regarding make-up and drag/performance make-up in daily use. It's a bit much.
yep! it's really way too much, I'm so tired of seeing especially, such young girls, doing this drag look for all day everyday!
Especially with the harsh and dark contour. That's why a lot of people are looking like a complete other person when they take off they're makeup.
Yep! It's super dark and dramatic and I get it if u like makeup but idk how&why ppl are ok walking around basically in a masquerade bc they rly truly do not look like the same person when it comes off!
Let people do what they want wtf? If they want to glam it up and do borderline drag then does it fucking matter if it makes them happy??? I'm so tired of people bashing other ppl just because they love their makeup
athena hatake Lol now who's making fun "Boarderline Drag"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I used to wear brows like that. Guilty 🙋🏼♀️😂 It looks worse because I’m so blonde!!! I’ve now learned to really tone it down, I never drag my brush to make those hard lines, very fine brush strokes now lol Thanks wayne. Thanks for being honest and showing me the light
Same 😂 I was looking crazy. Did you get weird stares and dirty looks too? Omg it was all the time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
it’s now 2020 and people are still doing it. So disturbing and I think it’s gotten worse with more reality TV
I love my IG eyebrows! if it's drag so be it! 💜
I agree 💖💖
Same!!
ur basic
+sehun is my dad your username lmao 😂
Yes! Confidence girl. It's a preference and I like them 💁🏽
Truly can't believe how upset people are getting over this just because they disagree with you?
After Wayne's said about 10 times, 'it's make up, whatever, you do what you want with your face. This is just my personal opinion', how can you actually get pissed off? Everyone's allowed their opinion and we all have the right to share it, too. Why not him? He didn't even say it in an offensive manner.
It's not about that to you, but have you read the other comments on here?
Yes, I think it's fine to use pictures to illustrate a point. Cropped pictures of eyebrows. And two drag photos saying how amazing they look.
Adding 5 question and exclamation marks doesn't make your statements more true.
Incompetent? At what? I'm no makeup artist so yes, I guess that would work in that manner.
I don't get offended by people not liking the same things I do. If he wanted to use my eyebrows as an example of something he doesn't like, yeah, I wouldn't mind. Particularly since he addresses it in a way that strongly points out it's just his opinion and he doesn't care if you rock the brows or not.
Throwing out personal insults during a conversation about a CZcams video doesn't actually add anything to your point, if anything it diminishes it.
This is so interesting to watch 6 years later.
2019 and those brows are still going. Lol
I agree! I have straight brows and used to hate them bc everyone seems to say arched brows are the most sexy or whatever but probably the last two years I've started to embrace my brow shape. I rarely even fill them in because I don't think I need to. Not everyone needs to fill in their brows, I wish more people would realize that.
I wish my eyebrows were straight haha! Mine are very sparse, whiteblond and naturally arched. Straight eyebrows lool very youthful
I actually want straight eyebrows myself. You are very lucky :) straight eyebrows make you look really youthful and they always give you that nice gentle look. I think arched eyebrows can look too fierce at times.
Straight brows are so cool! Look at this pic of Jean Louisa Kelly popomaticjeff.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/tia-russell.jpg I love her straight brows!
Mine are super arched and I look so angry when not smiling LOL i try to round out the tops sometimes.
Aww ya'll are making me feel good :) but if there's anything I've learned through all of this its that every brow shape has its own beauty! Embrace what you got because grass is always greener on the other side, am I right? :)
I agree 100% couldn't have said it better myself! I honestly believe waxing/threading and filling your brows in a bit with a brow powder looks great! What doesn't look great is when people fill them in so much that they look like 90% brow pencil and 10% hair and make the edges and arches so defined and straight. In my opinion it looks awful and totally unnatural.
So true! And especially when they trim there brows. They just look stupid and unnatural
+Isabelle Mathers It is crazy that women with natural, beautifully thick eyebrows are shaving the ends off just to be able to get that faded look. I don't get it. Why would every single person have the same shape eyebrows? It is supposed to accentuate the individual's face. Organic looking brows are so much better.
+Georgia Watts speak it, amen...especially when they are so dark they are like charcoal and their skin doesn't agree..
My only happy place with makeup was theatrical, until I discovered your channel. What a pleasure to watch such grounded videos on glamor makeup.
'I'm sure she has a heart of geld, feeds the poor, bound to find a cure for baldness' 😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think people understand that celebrities don't do this crazy kind of makeup in reality. Kim does not do the crazy fade eyebrow
Ummmm are you sure about that? She's posted her daily makeup, and she is not one of the people who don't have "crazy" makeup. She puts foundation not only on her face, but her body. She definitely has a crazy amount of makeup. She has very bold filled in brows too.
Dur?
you can say what you want
Jaspreet Dhaliwal the way you used the word "tranny" is horrible...did you mean to say "drag queen look"?...I don't think you meant it to be rude but just think before you say/post things.
I really admire drag artists because dramatic and out of the box is my thing. But even I feel like the brow trend has run out of control. It looks frickin awesome, but sometimes the only thing you can see is the brows and god damn
I mean shit, I love those incredibly creative people with no eyebrows who draw in different shapes and designs where their brows previously were so seriously, I'm not one to pin something as "too much" easily
+Lisa Wang Agreed!
Lisa Wang it's not really out of the box anymore since everyone is doing it now... swear to god, everyone on IG are all starting to look the same.
Ok like no offense but this is a makeup video, where we discuss makeup trends and whether they are good or bad. So???
It’s 2020 and I do straight thinner brows and always have, no matter the trend because I only care about what works on my face and doesn’t say “eyebrows!”
Exactly I have a smaller face so that extra thick instagram brow doesn't work for me.
I am so glad to hear you feel this way about those eyebrows, they are so =uhm unbecoming.
i just don't understand why using drag techniques as a woman is a bad thing?
ikr people use drag obviously to look more feminine so like why can't girls use the drag techniques??
Dani R
i get what you're saying but imo the way girls use these drag methods is kind of watered down of what actual drag queens do, i mean things like contouring and those super defined and faded brows arent nearly as extreme as drag queens do it and at the end of the day its all about expressing yourself and having fun with make up.
He didn't say it was bad. He said he personally didn't like it and wanted to warn people what they would be getting into if they choose to walk this route. He said many times it's his personal feelings, and you can do what the hell you want. He's just cautioning that it can look like drag, which is very strong, and can come off more bold than people (especially new make up artists) maybe expect it to.
It's not but it makes y'all look old af
drag queens are performers and drag makeup/looks are a part of the act. drag makeup is essentially theatre makeup and that's why you probably shouldn't be wearing it everyday.
It's like all of the women are trying to look like Jeffree Star and Manny MUA. They end up looking like a cross between a drag queen and a pageant girl. Creepy!
Yes! I hate it! Omg. This makes me feel so much better about how I do my makeup xD i was like fuck am I doing it wrong? Apparently not.
Michelle Walker
they're trying to look like someone they don't look like..
makeup is suppose to enhance not change
Michelle Walker I love manny and Jeffree
I like both of them too.
Michelle Walker Oh my god, yes! A lot of girls nowadays totally look like drag queens with that over the top makeup! I generally think that this whole "Instagram makeup" with those ridiculous eyebrows, heavy contouring and highlighting is only good for pictures and is not for wearing in real life, it just looks like a cartoon is walking around.
I really appreciate everything you said in this video. Eyebrows are very important. It's one way most people can read facial body language and they shape your face more then anything. I love this video.
What a legend he was ahead of our time
A lot of people do fade brows because if you fill the whole thing in it looks harsh and makes us look angry....plus it's a natural thing for hairs to be thinner towards the middle? Lmao
anon ymous exactly what i was thinking
Right?! Like if I fill mine in the middle, my brows look fake. Why do people care so much about what others do with their face anyway...
anon ymous But his point is you can do that without doing the overly dramatic look....why else would the world's most famous renowned makeup artists not do it?
idk are you getting your makeup done by the world most renowned artists? Then how would you know babygirl
no lmao my opinion isn't hurting anyone while his is sooooo sorry, I know you mean well so I'm not attacking you just defending myself and other girls haha
Sorry Wayne I completely disagree with you on this one....I almost didn't even want to watch this bc I knew it was going to be irritating. Makeup is art and art is subjective and who cares where these techniques come from!? Drag queens have been my biggest makeup inspiration!! I love a dramatic brow with a dramatic eye and I get compliments every day from girls not even wearing makeup on my makeup out in public. I think ppls eyebrows have never looked better since that technique came about! Better than ugly sparse, short or so -light -you -can't -even -see -them natural brows. I think your style is just not dramatic n therefore you dislike this brow look but no need to be rude about it! I stop subscribing to mua when they start putting rules on makeup n art.
I agree with his points and understand his message, but I still think everyone should do what they want lol. For me personally, when I'm doing my brows, if I don't feel like Brooke Shields I am not satisfied, haha. I love a full, arched brow. I settle in between draggy and pin up and I have for yeeeeeaaaarrrssss. I highly doubt I'll be changing any time soon :P
Love you!! 👏👍
Just one thing though, and I'm not one to usually comment on youtube too much so I won't be here to discuss this. I disagree that art is subjective. While I cannot deny that art is entirely non-subjective, it is by definition something that is practiced over a long long period of time to achieve a certain perfection. If art is subjective, then I can go splash paint randomly on a canvas and sell it for a million dollars and would not need 20 years of technique. Unfortunately, in modern art, you can do what you want and possibly get away with it being called "art." So I can totally see where this video is coming from in terms of how long it has taken Wayne to study, master his techniques, and have enough of a reputation in his industry to carry some weight in what he says.
he never tried to be rude, if you heard good all depends of personal preferences, why people like YOU doesn't see the objetive part, as you said make up is subjetive. But comments like this is pretty much stupid, and please study history of art and make up first
Hhhhh bby you got the ugliest eyebrows i have ever seen you look like a clown trying to be a girl
I love hearing your perspective on the "popular" makeup trends!
I couldn't agree with you more on this subject! 😊
Lol Wayne it's so adorable how you try to sound inoffensive 😂.
I just love you!!! WE NEED MORE WAYNE GOSS IN THIS WORLD!!!
The thing i find weird about it is that they shave off their actual eyebrow so they can draw on that type of eyebrow! Natural hair is always better
Omg! That is something I have never understood 😂
How true!!
truuuuue !
Because they want a certain shape and their natural brows are outside of the shape. For instance, if your brows are almost horizontal, but you want a high arch, you'd shave the part beneath the arch that you want. How is this different than plucking? You just remove more hair. *shrugs*
And when they go makeup free they look crazy because half their brows are gone
As an Anastasia eyebrow artist, I can say that I am so done with this brow trend. Or any overdone makeup for everyday wear. So many clients come in with phone in hand scrolling through brow pic after brow pic wanting the unattainable IG brow. Stop the insanity. Thank you for sharing.
I enjoy watching your videos Wayne. A makeover from you would be fantastic. You probably bring out the natural beauty in everyone you work on.
